I am unpleased to say the least to hear this but I have read that Mayhew still likes the kid but he was drafted as a kick return specialist and as we all seen that didn't seem to pan out well last year. I do think Derrick made some very good catches last year showin he has the abillity to play reciver in the NFL. He was a rookie and for the most part it takes alot of recivers 3 years to really come into there own. Is Derrick the next Calvin NO WAY! but to me he could easily be a long term slot reciver at the least. He was a 3rd round pick last year I dunno what they expect after one season from the kid but at Penn State he was a monsyer on returns and a very good reciver prospect KEY WORD is prospect. I can say this if we were to cut williams he will be picked up elsewere and be givin a fair chance and IMO will likley succeed. So heres my thought Derrick is a 3rd round low paid pick with good potential as a reciver maybe not a return man. We have had poor blocking on returns which hasn't helped his cause and we have Dennis ( oops dropped it again) NorthCUTt who is paid much higher and plays very little and probably less with BJ in the slot. We should cut DN before we cut DW. Give the kid some time to develop and work with Calvin and Nate to hone his skills maybe he can be a solid long term reciver for us yet and let Best, Brown, and Burelson handle the returns. So what do you guys think is one year enough to judge this kid on with a Rookie a QB and little playing time or is this just as wrong as I think it is that we would give up on him already were he could end up developing into a solid player for say the Colts or the Pats. Its not like he's Jamarcus Rusell or Vernon Gohlston I say give him more time.
