Lions Release Kirk Barton, Place Copeland Bryan On IR?
Last Friday, the Lions released three players: Kirk Barton, Paul Pratt and Copeland Bryan. Only the move involving Pratt got any publicity because it was in conjunction with the Dre' Bly signing, which is why I didn't know about the news involving the other two until I went to the Lions' transactions page on their website.
The Bryan move is a little confusing to me, because Tim Twentyman is reporting (via John Niyo) that Bryan has been placed on the injured reserve by the Lions with a knee injury. I don't know if this is one of those situations where Bryan had to clear waivers or something before being placed on IR, but that would make the most sense since the Lions are saying he was released. I suppose we will probably hear something definitive in the next day or so.
As for Bryan's injury, it means there will be one less player to compete for a spot on the roster at defensive end during training camp. Losing Bryan isn't a crushing blow or anything, but it does negatively affect the depth at DE.

I think the Lions signed Douzable
Because they plan on using Andre Fluellen to take the extra LDE snaps that Bryan would’ve recieved " Flu" played LDE in a few games last year and performed reasonably well. So I don’t see depth at DE being a problem. You can tell the moves Mayhew and Schwartz make collectivly are well thought out much like that of a chess player while we were wondering why they claimed Douzable considering our DT depth they were a few moves ahead of us.
I forgot about Douzable but your right
They are moving a few spots ahead and they probably knew about Bryans injury and how far it would to get him healthy again. Bryan didnt really play in all that many games and we have so many players on our dline its going to be pretty interesting. I think at DE and DT that we will have the most competition and get at least the best depth out of all our defensive postions. I dont see LB or DB having as much depth as our line right now

As long as we still have
Hunter, Avril, KVB and Devries we have solid depth just not tremendously deep
