Team Captains

Last year's captain's were Jason Hanson, Larry Foote and Dominic Raiola. With one preseason game in the books i thought i'd see who POD feels will be captains this year.

Star-divide

My team captains would be Kyle Vanden Bosch, Matthew Stafford and Louis Delmas. I would like to see who you would have choose for captains, i think that Hanson and CJ81 could be there as well unsure how many captains can be named.

I love Hansen

But seriously, how bad does your team have to be for a kicker to be a captain?

I’d really like to see Stafford be a captain and really embrace the roll. He needs to be the unequivocal leader of this team.

I think

it was more about having one for each unit, the offense defense and special teams. and he is a franchise kicker….lol

My picks are:
Offense- Stafford
Defense-KVB
Special Teams-you have to pick Hanson

I like it

i don’t know if that’s how Schwartz picks the captain’s but looks good.

by SmittyJ on Aug 16, 2010 1:21 PM EDT up reply actions

well

its a democratic system between the players. THEY decide who is and isnt, i mean if schwartz wants you to follow one guy and the players want to follow another then whats the point?

KVB – Defense
Raiola/Stafford – Offense
Hanson – ST

not that its really too hard but just wanted to share that with ya

Easy:

Stafford
KVB
Follett on ST.

yeah...

I’d have to go with KVB as Defensive Captain… His motor is too fast, too nonstop to ignore.

He’s what your team should strive to be.

I like Hanson as our Kicker,

But not as a ST Captain.

Special Teams is alot more than just Kickoffs and FGs. I want someone out there Firing players up on Returns and Coverage.

Hmmmm

I agree that it makes sense to have a captain for each unit. I think the coordinators will have a lot of input into the decisions too. That being said here are my thoughts.

Offense: Stafford is making strides and it is time to put the team on his shoulders, I hope he can handle it. Other favorites would be Raiola, Backus, and Calvin Johnson. I don’t think receivers get to be captains much because of the substitutions, therefore you usually see the QB or a lineman in that role.

Defense: KVB is certainly a leader, by example and word. Personally he would be my pick but the coaches might also go with Delmas. IMO though your better off having a lineman or linebacker as the captain since they are up in the area where adjustments need to be made. The secondary is more of a read and react type of play rather than setting up angles, gaps, and stunts. Ideally you would like the middle line backer to be the defensive team captain but we do not have one capable of that right now.

Special Teams: Hanson is the obvious choice for obvious reasons. However he would not be my choice. I would rather have one of the big hitting gunners that is a backup defensive player there. For one they set the tempo in a much bigger way and effect the emotions of the game a lot more than a kicker ever will. Secondly they are on the field sometimes as defensive players so you get the added benefit of having two of your team leaders out there on defense. I know their headset will be dead on the defensive snaps but you still get the emotional lift for the team when they make a play. I see Follett and Campbell as potential there. Since Follett is a fan favorite and can help to pump up the home crowd a hell of a lot more than Hansen can he would be my choice. Caleb though I am rooting for him 200% just has not proven himself yet.

its gotta be

raiola, kvb, and hanson.
hanson has been with the lions through thick and thin. he definitely deserves the c
it sounds like kvb has been showing a ton of leadership, esp with the young guys. another new signing becomes the defensive captain.
raiola has anchored the line for years, and most people would say that center is the second-most important position on the offense (besides qb, duh) he is a veteran who knows the organization.

yeah buddy!

Team Captains

Offense: Matthew Stafford- It’s his team, I think he embraces the leadership role this year and will be a outstanding captain.

Defense: Louis Delmas- Very emotional player that will be the heart and soul of this team this year.

Special Teams: Jason Hanson- The easiest one to pick by far.

Team Captains:

Stafford & KVB

others:
Offense: Raiola, Johnson
Defense: Levy, Delmas

NOT Hanson. love him, but he’s a kicker.
