Linebacker woes
The Lions have made some very impressive moves this year, and it looks like they will win a few more games as a result. My only concern is at linebacker. I wish someone could tell me why Larry Foote wasn't resigned? Levy is already feeling the pressure (i.e. back problems) and the season hasn't even started. The group we have needs a few more consistent producers, otherwise its going to be another woeful year with this group. Don't get me wrong, I really like Levy and Peterson, and really believe guys like Vinny, Zack and Landon have something to contribute, but if they don't prove it by the end of training camp, expect to see Levy "nursing" a back problem trying to carry this squad.

Agreed
I said from the first day they put their faith in Levy that it was too much too soon… I’m scared of our LB corps – moreso than the defensive backfield… Let’s cross our fingers. We’re one injury away from disaster…
Foote
1. played poorly last year.
2. was looking like our 3rd string Mike at best. Dizon was very impressive to Gunther last year and had a good offseason (gained weight). I believe they thought Dizon was going to be their #2.
3. 3rd string MLB needs to be a force on SP. Foote has nothing to prove and lacked the ferocity at this stage for kickoff team. Can you remember any play from last year where he really took someone’s head off? I can’t.
also, don’t worry so much about Levy, watch the guy play—he was flying around out there last year. the guy can play—trust me.
Was Foote even looking to resign here?
Last year, he signed here b/c this was the quickest way to a starting spot and he would be playing at home for once. and Larry wanted to win another championship, so he was going to a contender
The beginning of the end of the misery
Foote is terrible in a 4-3
The guy just couldn’t pick up on our 4-3 scheme after being in a 3-4 for so long and he was always out of place last year. Honestly, he was only a stop gap until Levy was ready, which is why he was only signed to a 1 year deal.
Foote was so bad in a 4-3 he lead the team in tackles.
I don’t know if Foote wanted to comeback, but if he had i think he would of had a awsome year for us and the whole LB depth thing wouldn’t be such a problem now.
Paris Lenon led the team in tackles before
should the Lions have kept him?
Foote wanted a payday and got it back in Pittsburgh. He was out of position too many times (see: Rams game). He isn’t athletic enough for a 4-3 anymore

If a middle linebacker doesn't lead your team in tackles
He’s either HORRIBLE or you have a truly elite player next to him. MLB tackles is a meaningless statistic.
WOW
do you have the stat to back that up man? 3-4 or 4-3 Ray Lewis, Patrick Willis, Brian Urlacher, Johnathan Vilma, John Beason.

he's right though
i don’t think tackles are even a standardised statistic. besides, making a tackle after getting pushed back 3 yds isn’t necessarily making a play. i’d rather he jams up the interior and one of the OLBs scrapes it up. that is good MLB play.
Like i said for Foote playing in 4-3
for the first time he did an outstanding job. I think this year he would have known the position and made more plays and him being out of position would have decreased alot from his first year.
Larry Foote
Just couldn’t adapt to the 4-3. I was not surprised at all he left because he wasn’t a good fit in the first place.
