Hello all and today I wanted to take a different approach on the subject of Stafford, who can and will probably be a great NFL quarterback. It's common in the NFL that players will sometimes workout with other players from other teams, or sometimes consult with past NFL players who were great at their position. This got me to thinking about Stafford and who he could consult or workout with that would really improve his game overall should he get the opportunity. To make this a simpler and more direct approach I am using a list of past and present quarterbacks(alive) and considered in the Top15 of all time.
I remember hearing during the draft a lot of writers and analyst refer to Stafford in similarity of Favre, now i wouldn't whole fully agree w/ that assessment but it was based on some of his aspects of his current game coming into the NFL. Personally I see a mix of players that he reminds me of besides Brett but there's one I'd love to see him become on par w/ understanding of the game and leadership. I personally think Peyton Manning would make a great offensive coordinator in his later years after playing and I'm not a Manning fan by far but I respect his game. Im not saying I want him to be the next Manning or anything but that type of commanding leadership is what I would love to see from Matt as he progresses. And I'm not sure of the exact stats here but Matt is the best rookie QB since Manning in their first year. I can't remember the exact statistic but its been talked about on a few talk shows and shows where they analyze this info. To be fair to the post I was bored and thinking about football when I wrote this up so its all off top of head and I'm known for my spontaneous thinking ...
My personal thought of Stafford is he has a weapon in Calvin Johnson who could easily be the next Rice and then some, and that as long as Detroit can make these two happy and surround them w/ good players they could be an awesome duo together that could easily shattered current records and win Superbowls together. Stafford reminds me of a mix of 3 players right now, a little Montana, A little Elway, a little Bradshaw (whom Bradshaw really likes our rookie as well). And if I had one to choose it'd be a very close between those three but I'd probably go w/ Elway -Bradshaw-Montana in that order of opportunity.Though the kool-aid makes me want to believe they could become the next Montana/Rice he seems like he has the aura of an Elway and he could learn to command like Manning and become better at it on his own, but would love to see Staff mixing it up like that at the line and having that leadership and knowledge of what to do.
For the sake of commenting feel free to add your own choices whether it be a coordinator or some other type of player or coach but for the sake of the post and the poll it will be more specific.
