Lions Claim Cliff Louis, Waive Contrevious Parks

The Lions added a new offensive lineman today, claiming tackle Cliff Louis off waivers. To make room on the roster for him, Detroit waived wide receiver Contrevious Parks.

Louis entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent from Morgan State in 2007. He signed with the Browns originally and has played for a number of teams since, including the Giants on a few separate occasions. In between his stints with the Giants, he played for the Jaguars, the UFL's Florida franchise, the Cardinals and the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL. Louis was just waived by the Giants on Aug. 20, only two weeks or so after signing with them again.

Parks was signed earlier this year as an undrafted free agent from Stephen F. Austin. With the wide receiver position so crowded, it's not too surprising that he was let go today, as I had him pegged as one of the players that would be released in the first round of roster cuts.

Bye Jon

Does this mean the Lions can get rid of Jansen now, he is so close to the end its not funny, this is a perfect chance to get younger on the O line. When will this team learn, that prolonging average or less than average, careers, does not build a winning team its been proven over and over for decades now.
Good teams are built through the draft pretty much 100 % of the time, thats just how it is give the kids their shot let them learn from their mistakes and all of a sudden the future is lookin a little brighter for this team. This team in the last 5 years alone has won like maybe 20 games if that, and the list of free agents during that time is long in numbers, low on talent and even lower on productivity “IE” wins. The Kids are Alrite********
This team must get a lot younger, their future the immediate future, depends on it ,2 years from now im talkin, by then Northcut & Morris will be done they must go, they are not the future no way.

Jansen is still in the mix for the starting job

Why on earth would they get rid of him now?

Edge Over Cherilus

Didn’t Jansen get the start over Gosder Cherilus at Denver this past weekend? I could have sworn that Jansen was out there the first few series.

you are right

Cherilus played well into the third

Rock Jansen

Is going to be our starter for most of the season, I hope. Heck from what I was hearing from the radio on Saturday he was looking like he did back when he was a pro-bowl RT in Washington. Oh and of course he is a Wolverine and they don’t retire they just keep going and going and going, just ask Charles who is like 40 and then there was also a certain WR who played in NY who just seemed to keep playing well after his prime also.

How many lumps you want Doc?

smm

Jansen is anything but average. Long time starter, very smart, very durable, until lately. Only released as a cap move, and still competing favorably with a giant third year first round pic for a starting spot. Really don’t know dick, do ya, girl?

I'd rather we keep Jansen

He’s good for Cherilus.

Jon Jansen is worth keeping

Also its not like this no name, CFL/UFL/NFL Backup is going to do anything for us other than be a warm body. Jansen will be here another year to 3 depending on how well his game holds up as he ages. And Gosder is looking better. In fact, if anyone gets traded I would not be surprised to see it be Gosder to a team that needs a RT. The Ravens have a slew of injuries at T along with contract issues. I would not be surprised to see us work out something with them. There are a lot of other teams that might show interest in Gosder too. How about San Diego, Dallas, and Washington just to name a few.

What does Mayhew know?

UFL’s Florida franchise, Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL.
Louis has played for everyone, and been dropped by everyone.
I’d like us to concentrate on 1 good LB, 1 good secondary man.
I’m probably thinking too much about this year. We do need to
let our young guns get reps and improve for the future.

Expectations don't produce!

LB

Akin Ayodele is available. He’s played in every game since 2002…pretty good in my book. Not sure why exactly Denver released him. Then again, Denver has done some stupid stuff the last year and this year.

Contrevious Parks

I don’t even remember him seeing the field in any of the first two games, all I ever saw was him sitting on the bench so this was bound to happen sometime.
