A few weeks ago I reiterated that "We have drank enough of the Kool-Aid" to last a life time but at this point why not get excited?
Let's go defense first, shall we? Dre Bly is old and Chris Houston is undersized and should be number 3 on anyone else's team. Delmas will probably be one of the top 5 Safety's in the league and probably could be THE best if he had a strong complement which he doesn't.
Our Linebackers are inexperienced and Julian Peterson whom was a freak of nature… 5 years ago can still hold down the SAM position.
I would be completely worried at this point… that is if our Defensive line didn't give me chills every time they are on the field! While Suh and Williams basically absorb two blockers a piece, Kyle and Avril and just destroying the Tackles who are forced to block them one-on-one. They are also giving our linebackers clear shots at the ball carriers and also allowing them to cover 5 yards out to stop the short pass. Before other teams offensive lines either fenced off our DL or just beat the piss out of the DL and forced the LB's to do two jobs instead of one, meanwhile even a mediocre QB would pick our DB's apart with easy 20 yard passes. Not anymore! We are still going to give up some plays but trust me when I say… it's not gonna be that easy this time.
Moving forward to the offense… what can I even say? Stafford looked so comfortable and so natural the last two games. Everyone was open and he knew where everyone was. Javid looks great, Pettigrew and Schaeffler are going to be a dynamic duo, and also Calvin Johnson… his first two touchdowns??? You're going to be seeing that ...and more of that ALL SEASON LONG.
I'm not making the "Record + Playoffs Prediction" because I simply can't stand it. All I will simply say is that the Lions are going to win some games this year and that will be competitive; they may even pull off an upset this year. Say who do we play on Thanksgiving this year? New England? :-)
