Jahvid Best's the 2010 Ray Rice?

LINK

Jahvid Best is getting a lot of praise and attention from the media.  The more and more I hear about him, the more impressed I get.  I wasn't quite sure why we jumped ahead into the first round to pick him up.   I am starting to see now that it may have been another genius move on the part of the front office.  Little by little, guys.....little by little.   We are going to take this league by surprise...little by little.

I think Best can help jump start a very talented offense.  If only Kevin Smith can get in the mix and help take some of the load and pressure off of Best.

His role

could be exactly like Baltimore. He resembles Rice and Smith would be like McGahee. See lots of carry and lots of receptions with TDs coming to Smith. Actually our team resembles Balt a lot minus LBers.

I think Best is more like Chris Johnson

than he is like Ray Rice. Ray Rice is a bigger and more powerful back than Best or CJ2K. Best and Johnson are prototypical speed backs, who can also run between the tackles due to the speed with which they can hit holes, and the agility they can use to make cuts. If the mantra were “power running”, Rice would be much more successful than either Best or Johnson. I think the comparison between Best and Rice is in the amount of production Best will potentially deliver as a rookie, not in comparative skill sets. In that light, I can see Best being the Ray Rice of 2010…in that he has the potential to deliver big numbers and make our running game a viable option.

agreed.

They had to move up for him or watch the Vikes snatch him. Lions liked Best pretty early on. I wanted D & O Line this draft, but if he stays healthy, this will prove to be a savvy pickup.

Jahvid Best

This guy is the real deal, his speed and moves in the open field have me really excited about our run game this year.

Plus he's a great kid.

I hope he has decent number of years.

Smith

Am I the only that is wondering if Smith should just go ahead and bulk up? Become the Thunder in a ‘Thunder & Lighting’ tandem?

Like Best a TON!

I was against picking him to and I will admit I was wrong. I still think kyle wilson would have helped us alot but best is gonna be a great pickup for us. I would like to see him get even more involved in the passing game. I think in more open space situations he could be a real fear for defenses.

I was super stoked when we drafted Best

If we had not drafted him, it is likely that our running game would have sucked again this year…which in turn would have made our potential for explosiveness on offense far less than what it is now. Best will force opposing teams to account for his speed and potential for explosion plays on the ground, which will allow our passing game to open up to the extent that Stafford will have more time in the pocket AND more ability to pick defenses apart on passing downs. If opposing teams do not respect our running back, then we could always run on 3rd and 5 or 3rd and 6, instead of the predictable one dimensional mindset of “we must pass on 3rd and long”.

SOS Rankings

Take it for what it’s worth (you can always question methodology), but something stood out to me when looking at FFToolbox’s Stregnth of Schedule ranking by position:

They mention in this article DET having the 2nd toughest schedule for Rb’s…that O-line better step up…but in terms of team strategy over the off-season, I also saw that we have the 5th easiest schedule for TE’s and the 3rd easiest for DL’s…the two areas we focused most heavily at bringing in talent to take advantage of mismatches and have a legitimate leg-up on the opponent…

anyone else read anything into this…smart strategy or happenstance?

Jahvid

should have decent numbers his first year and i would like to see him make a run for OROY and Suh win the DROY that would be awsome if the Lions won both those honors.

Nope

LeSean “Shady” McCoy will be a carbon copy of Ray Rice last year. He is a 2nd year player with some experience in his rookie year who will explode onto the scene. Running, receiving, and blocking.

Remember the name

Umm...

Where the hell did you come from? We don’t want to hear about LeSean McCoy, kind of like how I’m sure Bleeding Green Nation doesn’t want us to come over there and start posting about how great Jahvid Best is. Please keep all shit LeSean McCoy related off here, ’kay? Thanks buddy!

Seriously though...

Best has more natural talent in his right index finger than McCoy has in his whole body.

On sirus radio

I listened to running with mjd a fantasy football show maurice jones-drew has. One of his top players to watch this year are Jahvid Best. He also said Megatron should be one of the top recivers taken over reggie wayne and Larry Fitzgerald. You all know I love me some MOJO so it was great for him to give some of are guys some props. This guy takes Fantasy Football very serious actually going to other players and coaches to talk to them about health, Player Progression and things of that nature.
