Not as good .. too much time to throw

This is definitely a scaled back Lions team

I hope we don’t forget that. Sure, the secondary looks shaky but Delmas really helps shore that up. And we are not running on full offensive cylinders. Relax, people.

by sahaider on Aug 28, 2010 6:46 PM EDT reply actions

Not worried abt O

But the time the QB had to throw today ..

Addition:

This is very much a team that is a big work in progress. Their MO is build through the draft. We are definitely not there, but I see a lot of progress from the Millen disaster. How long have you guys even been Lions fans?

Why do you dislike smith so much? Did you just start watching the lions?

Smith was the only positive we had 2 years ago.. i’m not anywhere near ready to give up on him.. as a matter of fact, I would be happy he was the starter if we hadn’t drafted Best

by MatthewDC on Aug 28, 2010 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions

i dont know how much value ksmith really has

not that impressive in the preseason and with injury concerns, he wouldn’t get us very much. who are you expecting to get for him?

by sahaider on Aug 28, 2010 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions

uggg

The lions traded up because they knew what they had in Smith and it was not enough. Yeah he was all we had 2 years ago. That fact only reinforces how terrible the lions were then.

You need a change of pace. Why would you take Best out to put Brown in?

And Smith did a fine job of it before when he played. Felton was drafted to block for Smith and it was a good combo. Felton is on the team either way..

It’s moot anyways because brown will be kept to return kicks

That does not change the fact, the lions are deep at RB and frankly, he offers the least IMHO. 3.4 yards a carry last year, that is not getting it done. sorry.

Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.

by joshsun on Aug 28, 2010 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Our O-Line was the worst in the entire league...

He had 217 carries and was hurt like 3 or 4 different ways because he was getting no blocking…

And how are we “deep” at running back? Mo mo is old and slower than smith, De De Dorsey is a UFL or CFL pickup… brown is a special teamer..

by MatthewDC on Aug 28, 2010 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions

we can agree to disagree

Teams do not have to scheme against smith.

Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.

by joshsun on Aug 28, 2010 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Mo mo is shady.. brown CANNOT run up the middle...

Felton is a FB, and Best is the starter, that is established..

by MatthewDC on Aug 28, 2010 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions

when smith went down

mo mo ran with reason remember that your writing him off cause he is older why cant you write off smith just as easy. smith and mo mo ran behind same line last year and mo mo was more explosive

by Gyorick on Aug 28, 2010 8:09 PM EDT up reply actions

had a better yard per carry average too

and made people miss now and then.

Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.

by joshsun on Aug 28, 2010 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions

LOL I LOVE how you blatantly disagreed with yourself here

just a couple posts down you agreed that we should keep Smith over Mo, but here – another story. Do you know what you’re saying half the time?

by sahaider on Aug 28, 2010 8:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm not writing him off because he's old..

I’m writing him off because he couldn’t do ANYTHING last year.

I don’t know if you are just delusional or what, but morris didn’t do a DAMN thing last year when smith went down.

by MatthewDC on Aug 28, 2010 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions

I did watch

kevin smith started 13 games had 750 yds and 4 tds
mo mo started 3 games 374 yds 2 tds long 64 td run
oh k smith long was 31 for no td
awesome

by Gyorick on Aug 28, 2010 8:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Again.. as below.. stats can mislead...

Smith takes on one hell of a workload.. he catches the ball out of the backfield better than anyone ..

and he works his ass off

by MatthewDC on Aug 28, 2010 8:18 PM EDT up reply actions

smith is the only guy who works his ass off???

theyre professionals most of them take it serious maybe brown realized he was trash last year and worked hard all offseason you not gonna reward him for that. he looked good on returns tonight

by Gyorick on Aug 28, 2010 8:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Morris averaged over 1/2 a yard

more than smith did last year.

Morris also has an unusually low number of carries in his career. So you could say he has a ton of miles left on his tires too.

Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.

by joshsun on Aug 28, 2010 8:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Smith can catch the ball out of the backfield..

and a lot can go into those stats.. for instance he was taking less carries a game.. so he wasn’t working as hard.. smiths carries towards the end of the game to run the clock hurt his stats..

plus smith had another injury he played with before the season ender..

by MatthewDC on Aug 28, 2010 8:18 PM EDT up reply actions

we all loved smith when he was all we had

hes a tough guy, had a bad break, he will still be on the roster so calm down. hes not the answer though he will be forgotten.

by Gyorick on Aug 28, 2010 8:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Smith never ran at the end of the game

to run out the clock. We won 2 games last year. One of them on the very last play.

We are both fans of the same team, I respect your dedication.

I just cant see what smith offers that someone else does not.

Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.

by joshsun on Aug 28, 2010 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions

There were games where we were behind

Where we ran it up the middle like every play ..

by MatthewDC on Aug 28, 2010 8:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Because I remember thinking..

why the fuck are we running it up the middle…

by MatthewDC on Aug 28, 2010 8:23 PM EDT up reply actions

ya i did and i remember goin

that was a fuckin arm tackle are you serious, can you even break a tackle and stay on your feet. oh shit he broke one oh wait he was run down nevermind

by Gyorick on Aug 28, 2010 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions

you dont take best out for brown unless best is winded

I am saying, we have a ton of options for power runners and most of them have other roles on the team.

Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.

by joshsun on Aug 28, 2010 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I swear .. you guys all sound like Matt Millen..

Aaron Brown cannot perform against starters.. he has proven it time and again.. He has NEVER done anything a real game..

by MatthewDC on Aug 28, 2010 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions

and smith has only been here for 3 years

and he performed well with a terrible O-Line. You have such flawed logic on this issue. Thank god you’re not running the team

by sahaider on Aug 28, 2010 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions

he was out there today with the first string offense, the same line that

best used to hit a 51 yard run. He averaged 2.5 yards a carry.

Tell me what I am missing?

Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.

by joshsun on Aug 28, 2010 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions

The fact that Brown is running against 2nd and 3rd team Defenses

If Smith did that, he would be tearing every team up

This is not old school football anymore

3 yards and a cloud of dust does not work anymore.

Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.

by joshsun on Aug 28, 2010 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions

neither does brown trying to run around the end

and getting swallowed for -5 yards like every time he plays against NFL starters.

by sahaider on Aug 28, 2010 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions

You said nothing about my arguement.

You just keep saying that he only can get 3 yards. Aaron Brown is playing against 3RD STRING DEFENSES. Smith would rip the 3rd stringers up. Admit when you’re wrong.

I had an ant farm once, but them fellas didn't grow shit

by Bighaircut on Aug 28, 2010 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

How am i wrong?

Brown can make people miss and is clearly faster than smith.

Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.

by joshsun on Aug 28, 2010 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Look,

its easy to play well when you’re playing against the 3 string. Do you understand that? Smith is playing against the 1st string. It’s a big difference.

by sahaider on Aug 28, 2010 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions

That second touchdown by Brown

would not have happened if it was smith. He would have ran into the pile and tried to move it. he may have scored but he would not have walked in untouched.

Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.

by joshsun on Aug 28, 2010 8:13 PM EDT up reply actions

He can't make starters miss. He is faster yes,

But he makes up for it with a lack of power.. which is the whole point of having multiple backs..

by MatthewDC on Aug 28, 2010 8:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Again

Felton can run a power game and play on special teams and is huge compared to smith.

yup i do

and I appreciate everything he gave us, the lions have evolved past his skill set.

by Gyorick on Aug 28, 2010 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions

I can hardly even argue with you anymore

You must be bff’s with Millen. I can see him saying these exact things.
Appreciate everything he gave us? He played for 1 1/2 years, solid but unspectacular, and will be a good 2nd RB and decent option if Best gets hurt.
You’re acting like he offers nothing.

I don’t love Smith, I like what he can still offer us.

by Bighaircut on Aug 28, 2010 8:21 PM EDT up reply actions

no matt millen

would give him a outrageous contract rigth now like you guys want to be cause he talks a big game and cant really perform to the levels we want so payday pay him millen pay him sign well into 2020s

but in realityy millen cant tell when he is good or bad and just pays the man

keep throwing that Millen insult around, you are only hurting your own reputation.

I know what i saw out of best before and after the injury. He is not a game changing back and as such he is expendable. If we can trade him we should.

You really want Aaron Brown or Felton running the ball 20+ times a game?

look at the stats

look at the games from last year morris ran better than smith last year!!!
we all like smith but its a new time come to terms with it and better start cheering for our new starting ruinning back

by Gyorick on Aug 28, 2010 8:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Plus, this is ONE preseason game

after a season lost due to injury. How quick you are to turn on anyone. Our D-Line had an eh game, should we throw them out? KSmith has plenty of juice left, and I say we keep him for the veteran presence and the solid play we have gotten out of him

by sahaider on Aug 28, 2010 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions

I will agree with that

by joshsun on Aug 28, 2010 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm still not sure if Brown is better than Dorsey...

We didn’t get to see much of Dorsey but he looked solid against 2nd – 3rd stringers too

by MatthewDC on Aug 28, 2010 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions

it is one preseason game

and he has done the same after as he did before the injury. He looks slow and can’t make a man miss.

by joshsun on Aug 28, 2010 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions

I can't argue with you anymore

we disagree on fundamental issues. But, we’re both Lions fans, so lets hope for some W’s this season.

by sahaider on Aug 28, 2010 8:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Are you seriously stupid?

Smith had a wonderful rookie year. We all thought he was our man after that. You can’t tell me that you didn’t like him during his season that he was healthy. Jesus H. Christ. It’s one game. Barry freakin Sanders had bad games. Let this one go.

It's so refreshing

To see O Line holding on … Accurate throws .. AND receivers catching the ball …

It seems easy BUT I remember Joey Harrington throwing accurately so many times, just to recs have drop his passes .. Every damn game …

Not saying Joey was great … just that when I saw the evening game after lions loss, every team caught the passes .. and I used to wonder .. when will I get to see that from our team …

Feels nice now ..
