It's complicated: How to get to the final 53-man roster
An interesting read that might open some eyes about the process that teams go through to get down to the 53 man roster, I know it schooled me up a bit.

Thanks Smurf...
This opens my mind to a new way of thinking about the roster. This also makes me believe that with RB for example Aaron Brown will easily beat out Kevin Smith because Aaron is someone they can, or will, use on Special teams. Same goes for LB’s. A backup that plays on ST, even if he is mediocre as a positional player, will beat out a slightly better positional player that can’t contribute on ST. Really goes for all positions I guess.
What say you?
Yeah I can definately see it for the bottom end of the roster.
I think for units you keep the top for dedicated on the field but all of those 11 special teams guys have to come from somewhere. Think about it.
Offense 11 players
Defense 11 players
Kick off 11 players
Kick return 11 players
Field Goal 11 players
Punt 11 players
Special teams requires twice the bodies on the field for a game, unit wise, than the offense or defense does. I would venture to say that just about every 3rd string guy has to play special teams, and many 2nd stringers too.
