Will Gosder ever come around?
One of the final picks of the millen meltdown is gosder cherilus... now i hear the word on the street is that he is fighing for his starting role with veteran jon jansen... I know jansen still has some game but come on... Gosder was a first round pick... and a potential bust in my book.... so i ask will he ever come around.... is the same offense finally going to help him come to his senses...cuz i mean physically he is a monster... but is he just a big dumb idiot or what? I look at all the good talent we passed up that draft to get him... and now when he should be coming into his prime he is fighting for the starting job against jon older then NFL football itself jansen... seriously??
I personally say this year or benchy for life.... if he doesn't show it i say we throw backus at RT get ourselves a new young quality left tackle to replace backus like gosder was suppose to fucking do.... and then either move gosder to rg or just let him be a backup like he deserves... what u think???

the moment they announced his name. . .
i slammed down the draft magazine i had in my hands. . .we traded down and missed on Branden Albert. . .then we selected Gosder and passed on Jeff Otah. . .i was scratching my head for a while on that one. . .i couldn’t believe we didn’t take Otah who has turned out to be a beast in Carolina(when healthy). . .that being said. . .i don’t think we should move him to guard because Peterman is playing pretty well there. . .but, if he loses his job to Jansen this year. . .i think it is safe to label him as another millen bust. . .but, who knows, maybe third year is the charm!!
I was thinking the same thing...just could not understand how we pasted on
Albert and Otah.
if the shoe fits...get another one just like it - George Carlin
I wanted Otah
before we traded down. AND THEN HE WAS STILL THERE!. I was like thank God not even Millen can screw this . . . . YOU HAVE GOT TO BE EFFING KIDDING ME! I the drove directly to the store got a handle of Jack Daniel’s. I then tried to destroy enough brain cells to try to make myself dumb enough to think it was a good move. It didn’t work.

Gos
If he beats out Jansen for the job I’d give him one more year, if he starts getting flagged for false starts bench him…
I think Gos will improve
You lookin at somone who as much as I love pettibeast I wanted Mike Oher. I belive Cherilus just needs to be coached up some more and use his head during game time. This power blocking scheme is right up his alley so I think a zone scheme would hurt him more. I say let him work with Jansen for a year or 2 to improve his game. I would be afraid to let Jansen start this year though. I don’t think he will ever replace Backus ( Fox might) but he has the abillity to be a solid RT.

Gosder has been fine.
Yes he can get better but its not like he has been awful.

For the being picked 17th in that draft, I'd call him awful.
Just my opinion though.
I don’t want add player does not have blue collar mentality,
even if he is great player. Piston should not quit your job. - OK from J
Yup We All Have Opinions.
He has had some injuries as well that have caused him some issues. At least the main problem he has is with false starts and that can be corrected.

That and all the passing downs...lol....
Level out the scores and pass less… then we’ll see a better line.

gosder will start for the lions they will put a te on his side to help him with the out side rush just likr they did backuss last year . also this year the lions will be able to run the foot ball this year with beast and smith as are starting runing backs ithink the loins willplay both at the same time this year.
IMHO
he will be nothing more than a backup. for the 17th pick, hes a bust. i hope im wrong but i dont think i am.
he is junk.. imo he is the worst player on the team..
hope fox is out there by week 10.. and hope gos is gone next year
not that bad...
i dont think we should get rid of him.. but he should definetly be a backup for sure… depending on the season… i could see detroit getting a quality tackle in the draft… then again depends on who goes…. and whats available…. just saying… eventually backus is going to be less the average… so far he is ok… he can get it done but eventually he will have to move to right.. and let some new blood take over…. i say sooner then later..let gosder sit… but i hope im wrong… i would love to see him finally get his worth around here..

I'll echo the sentiment
This is a make or break year for Gos. No, he’s not a terrible RT, but he’s not very good either, and let’s just say if he doesn’t show improvement this year I’m not comfortable with him anchoring the right side of the line for the next 8-10 years.
+1
I think that of we are going to run a bunch of 2 tightend sets it will only help him.
1 slice, 1 beer, 5 more reps.
One more year.
Being picked that early in the draft, its not asking to much of him to be at least a solid starter by now. However, Millen picked him, so he may not be as good as expected.
I will give him another year only because he had crap coaching until Schwartz got here. If he is not at least a solid RT by seasons end, the Lions may need to find someone else.
This is the big year for Gos
If he doesn’t show marked improvement than I think it might be the beginning of the end for him.
RIP Robyn Bailey 1961 - 2010. I love you mum.
in 2nd year Gosder was considered an average RT
i’ve been down on Cherilus too but from what I’ve heard, he is an average OT going into his 3rd year. I’m not big on the quantitative ranking of players but ProFootballFocus ranks him #39 or 77—putting him about in the middle. Backus ranks #12 of 77.
If the ranking is to be believed, and if Gosder is to improve this year (as would be expected for a 3rd year tackle), then we should be okay. However, I haven’t heard anything positive from the coaching staff yet about him. This is concerning as I would trust their judgement above these rankings.
