Lions Training Camp Notes: 17,112 Fans Attend Ford Field Practice
- The official attendance from yesterday's open practice at Ford Field was 17,112.
- A total of 11 players were absent from the practice because of injuries: Jerome Felton, Mike Moore, Will Heller, Jared DeVries, DeAndre Levy, Amari Spievey, Aaron Berry, Jack Williams, Ko Simpson, Louis Delmas and Jason Hanson.
- Levy is itching to get back out on the practice field with his teammates.
Out of all the people injured, he is one of the people the Lions can't afford to be without. Depth at linebacker isn't necessarily thin, but there aren't a lot of starting-caliber LBs on the team. In that regard, the Lions need him back and soon."Man, I’ve worried since Day 1," Levy said in the locker room last week. "I want to get out there and mess with these new guys. We’ve got a whole new D-line, a couple new linebackers in here. I just want to get there and get those reps. You feel like everybody’s taking those reps.
"I don’t want to go out there and be five, six, seven, eight, nine days behind, because those are valuable reps that I’m missing. It’s one thing knowing things on paper and knowing things on film. But actually getting a feel for things and seeing it, it can still be a little rusty. You just want to get in there and get in a stride with everybody."
- Defensive tackle Joe Cohen injured his knee today.
- Defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham, defensive line coach Kris Kocurek and secondary coach Tim Walton will coach from the sideline during games this year rather than from the press box like last year.
- In his latest article for the Free Press, Jon Jansen talked about his experiences as a rookie in 1999 and some of the things he had to do as part of being one of the new guys in training camp.
- Albert Haynesworth finally passed his conditioning test for the Redskins.

went to the practice today with some friends
and it was a great atmosphere. we couldn’t stay long, but we got to see some great stafford-to-johnson bombs. felton was back and appeared to be 100%, delmas and levy were noticeably absent, and i am very excited about zack follett.
also, my roommate at iu this coming year is from chicago, and is a big bears fan. i’m thinking of putting some sort of bet on the game. any ideas?
yeah buddy!
A big THANK-YOU ! to the entire Lions organization !
Judging from the pictures on the other site, it appears a fun time was had by all. Player and coach accessibility seemed paramount. Building a winning atmosphere one step at a time. Nice !

On the way back from canton. Secondary didn’t seem to do much, Linebackers I thought looked prett good, Stafford and calvin had two GREAT plays for a deep TD! P.S I got to meet Cliff, Corey, and Louis got autographs. Was pretty bumbed staff was signing on the other side of the field I didn’t get over there in time to meet him. Suh and Follett along with a majority of the team didn’t sign. Cliff, Corey and Louis were all awesome to the fans. We got lots a pics from the weekend that will be posted for you guys probably monday or so…….GO LIONS!!!

I'm lovin' Levy
Most NFL players will tell you Training Camp in their least favorite part of the year, and some will do anything to skip it (*cough*BRETT FAVRE*cough*), so it’s really nice to see a young guy like Levy actually upset that he has to miss some time. That’s exactly the kind of attitude you want your young players to have.
Just read. . .
on Detroit Free Press that starting RG Stephen Peterman was held out of practice today due to an injury that he sustained in the morning session. So far, it’s an undisclosed injury and we can only hope that it is minor. . .our o-line needs time to gel and I remember last year when we lost Peterman that we have no adequate back up. . .fingers are crossed
