I'd like to say how much I admire the response of Jim Schwartz to...that call. First of all, what possible benefit could there be from berating officials? I don't see any, however, the publicity generated from this episode will certainly put the officials in the spotlight at home vs. Philadelphia. What do you want to bet that this week we get the close calls? I like the idea of a seething anger in the Detroit Lions this week and I suspect they will play better knowing that you cannot rely on breaks and good fortune to win games, in the NFL you have to force the issue. The play of the defense, front to back , was beyond my most optimistic expectations, THAT was a Detroit Lions defense. The offense however has to take the risks involved with throwing the ball downfield to Calvin Johnson. Bad things could happen, but what do you think will happen to those throws to the backfield? Football is a game of risk and I can forgive mistakes in execution but I will not forgive lack of courage. The eagles will game plan for that but if nothing else, that should give the run game some room to operate. These guys look like a good team, I hope the play-calling gives them a chance to show it. I think they will.
