Cunningham: Vanden Bosch best player he's ever coached
I apologize for pulling an "I know this should be a fanshot but nobody reads those", but this was a very encouraging read. Cunningham is sometimes over the top, but when he puts Vanden Bosch ahead of somebody like Derrick Thomas, you know we just picked up a great player on our defense.
Philly's receivers are a mismatch against our secondary. We're going to need a D-Line that doesn't tire out or lose any aggression containing Vick and forcing him to make mistakes. All it may take is one or two big plays against us and we're trying to fight back from a deficit. We need 105% from Vanden Bosch & Co every single play. I say this cautiously: I don't see them disappointing us.

Cunningham likes to hype up his players but...
A guy like KVB is valuable in the terms of not taking plays off. This guy is relentless, and has been his entire career. If KVB can stay healthy this year, he will make the probowl for sure. He brings something to the table that most so not, he’s also a valuable asset in the locker room with his leadership and has motor that really never stops. KVB is the most valuable player on the entire defense in my opinion.
From 0-16 to the Superbowl baby!
Kyle Vanden Bosch
What’s the over/under how many huge hits he has on Vick Sunday?

I must admit
that I was wrong about KVB. There was a poll awhile back about who the lions most valuable D player would be. Alot of people were picking KVB and I thought they were dead wrong. I voted for Suh and stated that he would make it possible for KVB to look only decent by taking alot of double teams. My reasoning was that his stats after Fat Albert left were not even close to what he put up with him there.
I was basing my point on stats alone not having seen him play much. After watching him last week, I have a new found respect for Mr Vandenbosch. As noted above, this dude never quits. He will chase them down in the secondary if he has to.
Heres to you Kevin for being a bright spot in an otherwise disapointing game.
boy,
just think how much better Suh is going to be from being around KVB. i guess the D-line gets up early in the offseason to lift with his crazy ass. KVB made our team better in the offseason. His impact is much more than his domination on the field. Our D hasn’t looked this inspired in a very long time. Football is a game of emotion. We have definitely turned a corner and this guy has a lot to do with it. I love Delmas too. He exudes the same kind of intensity in a different way. We have made some very good personnel choices lately.
It's a close call but
Delmas is still by far the most important. He’s the QB of the defense and the only thing holding the secondary together right now. Ask the Steelers and Colts how things go when your star safety is out. The answer is not well. But damn, if KVB is going to rack up 10 tackles every game, he could very well make a case against that logic.

I voted Suh
him commanding double teams frees up his linemates to wreak havoc. Really tough choice with the players you listed. There is no right or wrong choice.
In life, a man is either the hammer or the anvil. Ndamukong Suh is both
Pride of Detroits village idiot
KVB does everything right, except it seems like once he gets to the QB, he never brings him down
I saw Cutler escape maybe 2 or 3 times from what should have been a KVB sack. I don’t think if it’s like a mental thing with KVB or what, but I know that that was the knock on him at Tennesee too. I believe KVB has had one of the lowest pressure to sack ratios in the league.
Hopefully he works on that and starts wrapping up QBs better, cuz he’s great at everything else.

I'm not sure if that's totally accurate
Cutler had his eye on KVB all game because Vanden Bosch was in the backfield all game. With the quarterback eyeing that side of the line more often than not, it explains why other guys on the line each had a sack and not KVB. He was anticipating KVB before he even got there due largely in part to his weak offensive line. With that kind of motor, you almost have to anticipate KVB bring the heat and prepare to avoid him every time, and that’s probably what happened when he was in Tennessee as well. You make a good point, however, I’m just not sure if it’s accurate.
From 0-16 to the Superbowl baby!
Right NOW
Its vandenbosch he is setting the tone for what are future defense will be. Guys like Suh and Avril will learn from him and they will eventually teach the new guys the same things. The other guy would be Louis cause are DBs are such a question mark he is the only given in the secondary.
GET WELL SOON MATT! We need ya man
What Vanden Bosch brings is priceless.
Delmas brought an immediate impact and was unquestionably a leader last season. I would split the vote if I could. They both go 100% every down. KVB was dripping with blood in his postgame. How can you not love that, no matter what team you like. Like I said, priceless.
I don’t want add player does not have blue collar mentality,
even if he is great player. Piston should not quit your job. - OK from J
Did you know he wears red contacts to reduce glare during games?
The man looks off his rocker standing in front of a mic, he must look like a rabid bear on meth when he is out there on the field.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
Love KVB
Everything Gunther says is true….however in this scheme, SUH is still the key facilitator for the entire line, if Suh gets double teamed or schemed, every other guy with an attitude has the ability to play like KVB and that is what we’ll see, each week the next guy steps up, plays his responsibility taking away run or pass lanes, someone each week will have great stats, if not, the slackers will be gone.
tears
is it just me or does Gunther get a little teary eyed when he starts talking about KVB. check the video if you’ve only seen the audio.
voted for KVB
Not so much because of his talent, though he is a pretty damn good DE. But really, more because of the mentality that he brings to the team. You couldn’t ask for a better guy when it comes to setting the right example for our young guys and changing a losing culture.
As for Gun, it’s hard to say whether he truly believes KVB is the best player he’s ever had or if he’s just saying it because he knows it’s what Lions fans want to hear. Either way, it means something.
something good to point out
Three players got a decent chunk of the votes! When was the last time a Detroit D had that kind of talent?
Thinking blades and ball?

Sorry guys...
But while I am very happy with KVB and what he is doing, I do not think he would be doing it without Ndamukong Suh. Suh is the MVP on our defense right now, and the fact that he draws a double team on every play allows the rest of our D-line to flourish. Look at what KVB did without Albert Haynesworth in Tennessee, and then compare it to what he did with Fat Albert.
Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!
I voted KVB because of his butterfly effect
KVB adds an attitude and passion to our entire defense that elevates every players effort and talent on that field. While big Suh is a great player in my mind he is 2nd to KVB only because his effect and benefit to others are relative to his performance.
In order for Suh’s effect on the team to be felt he has to be on the field and make the right plays to help others around him shine. For KVB simply being on our roster, in our locker room, and getting some snaps in a game will still inspire the whole team and make them better, even when he is not on the field, or even if he does not make the right play.
Suh is a going to be a great player, KVB is a great leader. To me it is like comparing Steve Yzerman (KVB) to Pavel Datsyuk (Suh). Hopefully Suh learns how to be a great leader from KVB.
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
Personally, I think there's is no one key cog
It’s a machine with finely tuned parts (I admit, some not quite finely tuned, cough DBs cough) that each work together to achieve it’s goal. Suh’s important, Delmas is important, KVB is important, Houston is important. I know it seems like a way of not answering the question but that’s the way I feel.

So...
If you were the owner of an NFL expansion team, that planned on running the same defense the Lions do, and it became let your former GM run your team day in the NFL (so we have Mayhew at home and the Mustachioed Moron is running things for one day), and he made an absolute idiot move and forgot to leave a key player protected from being taken by your expansion team on the Lions defense, what Lions player would you wish that to be?
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
ManRam and Drew Stanton
Because I am a Lions fan and I don’t care about my new expansion team.
Oh yeah, I would probably want the Lions to pick up Eric King and make him unprotected so that I could pick him up and he would no longer be associated with the Lions ( I know he was cut, but still, I don’t think anybody has picked him up).
If you can't spell practise write, then dont repond!
Suh or Delmas
Based purely on potential, presence and youth.
