Rocky Boiman To Play Against Bills
Although he was just signed on Monday, linebacker Rocky Boiman is going to play today against the Bills. Usually recently-signed players need at least a week or so to learn the system enough to play in a game, but Boiman knows the Lions' defense well enough to see the field tonight.
"That’s the plan, we didn’t bring him in to stand around. That’s part of the reason he’s the guy we brought in ... He’s a guy who can get up to speed really quickly,’’ coach Jim Schwartz said.
I'm still not sure what to think about Boiman's chances of making the team, but I suppose how he performs against Buffalo will shed some light on if he will be kept around past Saturday.

So Arizona is trying to trade Leinart to the Giants...
Do you think the Giants would give us Bulluk for Stanton? ;)

BTW it is also rumored that the Raiders talked to Arizona about Leinart
and rookie running back Brandon Minor was cut by the Bears

Don't want bulluck
He didn’t want to play for us so the hell with him IMO.
I had a dream were the Lions let me sign a 1 day contract they let me practice with them running drills and catching passes from Matt…At the end of the day I was called into Mayhews office. I was told I had just been traded to seattle for a 5th round draft pick.
Sounds like Boiman was/is their safety net.
Gunther and Schwartz are familiar with him and seem to have confidence in his ability to play at a certain level.
I will speculate here and say that they did not bring him in earlier because they thought hoped one of the younger and more athletic LBs would step forward and fill this spot. With Dizon and now Levy out, they are going to their back up plan.
While others wail and proclaim the coming apocalypse, I am encouraged that the Lions actually thought ahead here [they had Boiman in for a physical awhile ago] and had a plan for something like this happening.
GLUG GLUG GLUG GLUG GLUG Me drinking gulping the blue kool aid.
More importantly
Who the hell are the starters for Week 1?
Especially if Levy’s not ready to go – but who are our OLB starters?
[...]when Giants coach Steve Owen, a certified defensive genius, was asked how he planned to stop Nagurski, he said: "With a shotgun, as he’s leaving the dressing room."
One - Peterson; Two - Follett or Landon Johnson
Peterson is a given. I think LJ may get the start over Follett. I don’t think that is too bad.
Follett
We have to stick with Follett – were not going to the super bowl this year, lets see what we got in this guy. If we stick him back on the bench we are in the same situation next year wondering if he can be a starter – we mys-well find out now.

Zack played better last week. We have to give him time to learn his new position.

We will see what Schwartz and Gunther think.
I would prefer that Follett keeps the job but if the coaches think he is not up to it now and needs more practicing, then they should sit him until he is ready.
I am normally in favour of taking a chance on the young guys and letting them play, but it depends on what kind of mistakes they are making, and whether the coaches think they are working them out.
agreed
I think to this point they have left him out there doing his main job as a LB. I believe when they cut him loose it will be after he has established he has learned the system.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
Rocky Boiman
I expect him to make it on the team just because of his connections already with Schwartz. I don’t think he will be anything special but I’ll take a solid back-up linebacker that can start if he needs to.
