The Lions Worst to First?
I have to admit that as a Lions fan I am not at all used to the amount of National Media love we are getting this off season. There is a buzz around our team and we are in feel good football stories all over the place. I am literally shocked at this one but there is a nice surprise at the end of this video if your willing to suffer through the AFC talk.
So this hot my hamster wheels turning. Could the Lions go from worst to first in our division? What sort of scenario might unfold during the season for that to happen? DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES?!?!?!
Personally I think anything is possible. I of course can see it happening under the right circumstances. Quite frankly if we click on all cylinders of our offense and defensive line on top of staying healthy I think that is enough to get us there. Of course it would not hurt to see Chicago continue to struggle mightily on offense and for Minnesota continue to have offensive line woes. The biggest hurdle will be Green Bay, as it should be. Call me sappy, delusional, a romantic, a dreamer, or just a downright fool, but for some odd reason it just "feels" right.
It is like this team has taken me on some super Lions time machine to remind me of the glorious battles of Lions gone past. I see players on this team that remind me of Bobby Lane, Alex Karras, Dick "Night Train" Lane, and both Barry and Charlie Sanders. I am sure you all can connect the dots to whom I am speaking of. To be able to mention those names in the same sentence as so many former Lion hall of fame players speaks to the level of talent this team has, even if the current players are just shades of the former greats. Perhaps most telling though is the fact that possibly our most talented player of all has not been quantified into that thought yet, Megatron.
It is no wonder why we are being so highly regarded when you think about it. A talented roster with smart head coaches and a savvy front office, all of them working towards the same goal, the same vision. When you think about it this year we don't have to drink or ingest anything at all to make us believe.
I know a lot of people are scared about our back seven and even I have my doubts there. I wonder if the fans in Tennessee felt the same when they had a no name back seven? I wonder if the fans in New Orleans felt the same last year with their defense that bent as far as you can without breaking? I wonder if we will know what it feels like to those fans have in recent years? Though I have my doubts I have to admit that my guilty pleasure is believing it can be so.

Expectations don't produce!
They aren't going to win the division...
They will be improved….but they are not at all division champion capable simply because of the competition. I could see a possible wild card at absolute best. And that is only if we got some major momentum.
Our secondary will get scorched against Green Bay at least, so just get ready for it.
USE THE SCHWARTZ!!!
I think our secondary is still a big unknown
IMO they have the physical tools to be a decent unit. But they need to get reps together to gel and get the communication down, get used to each others voices. That is a lot more important than anything for a secondary the communication, I got him, you get him kind of stuff. That only comes from playing together. So I don’t think we can possibly evaluate that from what we have seen. In fact I am not sure even the coaches have seen enough to do that with all the injuries.
Schwartz and Delmas have made some minor comments that have slid by most about the communication and the fact that it needs to be worked out yet.

It doesn't seem like all that long ago...
that the Lions were 7-9 and started the season 6-2 (wasn’t it even 4-0 to start the season?). Then, the season took a turn for the worse. The d-line stopped getting/forcing turnovers. The offense stumbled virtually every play. The coaching staff showed their true colors and the team won one game out of the next 24.
Thankfully, that regime is gone (except for a few players). The new coaching staff is building using a talent first philosophy, and so far seems to be working. Drafting Stafford, Suh, Best, Levy, Pettigrew, Delmas, & Follett in their short two drafts has worked so far (hey it’s only pre season). The front office has done their part… Peterson, Williams, Sims, Burleson, Scheffler, and the list goes on because of the draft picks acquired and waiver wire transactions.
Are the Lions headed in the right direction? It sure seems to be the case. Will they win the division? Probably not. I can see them sweeping the Bears this season and possibly stealing one from Minn. I still think that GB will be at the top of the division, mostly due to the development of Rodgers. Take a good look Lions fans… this will be Stafford in a couple years.
Here’s my bold prediction…
By 2013 the Lions will be at the top of the NFC North and contending for the NFC Championship. They will have no less than 6 Pro Bowlers (Stafford, Delmas, Suh, Peterson, Best, CJ, Burl, Grew, & KVB all in contention). By 2013, the Lions will win double digit games (yes, better than 10-6/8 depending on the number of regular season games).
I hope you're right on the pro-bowlers
because garnering 6 would have included a lot of national coverage and winning. That said, I cannot see KVB being a 2013 Pro-Bowler (that’s 2 seasons from now), but I can definitely see 3 multiple pro bowlers in Staff, CJ and Best… They could potentially be on the same level of Peyton/Harrison/Edge by 2013 if all works out

You are almost right fanatic
except on KVB think about it, in 3 years he is going to be over 34, if he makes the PB at that age as a DE it will be an amazing thing since there are a lot of younger DE’s that are still getting better. Plus he will still be fighting with the likes of J Allen/ Peppers etc. etc. he has the hardest position in the NFC to get to the PB in my opinion.
How many lumps you want Doc?
People are high on Green Bay
They seem to be similar to the Lions in a number of ways though. Great throwing QB with great receiving talent and a defense that’s spotty and forces Rodgers into shootouts. I can’t explain how they got #2 in total defense. It’s well beyond me.
But the Lions have some better spots on offense. The OLine is better (somehow) and they also have a better set of RBs than Green Bay does. Yet Green Bay is predicted to go all the way while the Lions are predicted to go 6-10. Sense????
Doc
The problem that the O-line has had for the past 10 years is we have not had any guards that were worth shit. Peterman was doing great last year until he got hurt and now you add Simms to the other side and Peterman is healthy again(for now) and the line has solidified. GB on the other hand added Baluga that wasn’t the problem in GB last year it was 2 hurt T’s that are not that good and they are still there, so I’m with you on how are they concidered contenders as of now, but they are.
How many lumps you want Doc?
So far in the preseason, which means almost nothing lol!
The two vet tackles look good and Bulaga is a fail at tackle and struggling at guard.

Chariss Thompson
I didn’t notice she was talking
I had a dream were the Lions let me sign a 1 day contract they let me practice with them running drills and catching passes from Matt…At the end of the day I was called into Mayhews office. I was told I had just been traded to seattle for a 5th round draft pick.
like I said before.
Charissa Thompson. . . . .MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. . . Yummy!

Look, I think anything can happen this year, but...
for me, the Lions have to prove it first. I think the offense, barring injury, should be a top ten offense. But I truly fear for the defense. Up front… no issues. But the lack of containment on third and long will play like broken record all season, I think. Again, not that I’m pessimistic, I just don’t feel we are that close yet and it’s an expectation thing. When I say they could get as many as 7 wins, I feel that’s optimistic in contrast to coming off a 2-30 record the past two years. There will be growing pains this year guys. Brace for it and put expectations in check and you’ll be very happy with this year’s product. I think that a lot of people are going to be very disappointed this year. Look at the schedule again. It’s not easy at all.
This is a team sport and we don’t have a complete team yet. Could they push the other teams in the division for the top… maybe. Will they be improved… yeah, I think it would be more shocking if they weren’t markedly better than in ‘09. But you won’t see a 9+ win prediction from me until the product on the field proves that they can hang with the big dogs in the NFC. They go 2-2 to start the season, I will be changing my tune, because that means we beat a division rival or two on the road or took down the Eagles.
If 9-7 wins the division than yes ...
I do believe that the lions are a capable 9-7 team this year, could that warrant a playoff shot in the NFC by years end, maybe if the right wins are taken. But to go as far as worst to first not quite yet.
I would change this statement very quickly however if two things happened,
1. Minnesota figuring out a trade for Jackson (WR) from the chargers
2. We obtained a 1 solid LB that could go opposite Peterson (who would need to have a pro bowl season )
Im not so on the fence and feel slightly more confident than i think most do about the secondary, they are all young for most part and unproven but they are also here to prove something and stay in the league, Delmas, Phillips, Bly, Wade, Houston, Speivey (secondary that will see most playtime probably) seems like a solid core of rotation, its that LB crew that has me like 6-10 5-11 record if they dont push their game w/ who they have now.
A coward dies a thousands Deaths a soldier dies once ....
Hope you guys go 9-7
I bet a guy $100 last night that you would win more than 7 games. Go Lions except for 2 games this year.
Media love from the Nation media?..Their idiots
Look at the Kevin Smith cut possibility yesterday.
It started with an article in the Free Press yesterday, Seifert at ESPN picks up on it, Kowlaski throws something in, and it’s nothing but rehashed links from NFP,PFT, Yahoo sports all day, and the “national media” is just rehashing something put out by a local writer. There’s nothing new there.
So when the Lions are getting love nationally, chances are they don’t have a clue what their talking about and their just rehashing over something from a local writer.
I dont think that effects guys like Warren Sapp, Marshall Faulk, and Jason LaConfora

Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 60's football back to Motown!
I was just being "in general"..i didn't mean to direct it to what you were saying in the instance.
Man, I take your word over any one of those national fools.
To add to this.
I pay more attention to what other teams fans such as us are starting to say about the Lions, more then what some lazy national guy who is just parroting some other lazy national guy is saying.
That said, true football fans are starting to give the Lions and the front office props for what has been done so far. When “Homer” in Arizona notices that Mayhew is milking waiver pickups into draft choices, you know the guy is a football fan and I’d pay attention to what the guy says.
The haters will always be haters, but true fans are noticing the moves that the team is making and are prepared for a Lions turnaround.
First? Doubtful, but they won't be last either....
The Bears are going to have a bad season IYAM. Lions take both games.

Some wins would be nice
Anything over 4 wins would be pretty good in my book.
