A true power back maybe?????
Anybody who read my posts know I'm pro Kevin Smith, that being said Brandon Jacobs is now available by trade. Smith hasn't played this year and said he won't be 100% till next year, so why not IR him which will give him proper time to heal and try to get Jacobs via trade maybe a 6th round pick. Lions fans think of Best being our speed back and Jacobs being or thunder. I think we all agree after or 3rd and 1 then 4th and 1 failure our short yardage game could use a little help...

I would love to have him except one thing
4(or was it 5) year 25 million contract. That is expensive for a backup complimentary RB.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
You gotta be kidding me!
Haha, I just posted about the same topic but you beat me by like 30 seconds so i deleted it. If anyone cares for my opinion here it is…
Two words, Brandon Jacobs. I can see him splitting carries with Best better than any other back on this roster. He can be our power back on short yardage situations. We wont need to put Jahvid Best in to rush on a 4th and 1 like yesterday which was completely blown up in our faces. He can be the guy that brings our offense to that level matched with any other team in this league. We obviously can’t run the ball what so ever between the tackles. He can and he can bring that final dimension. Best is great, don’t get me wrong, but he simply does not have the size or skill set to do much outside of screens and running towards the sideline. Morris, Smith, and Brown are NOT power backs. Morris is the most powerful of them all from what I’ve seen but he just does not have the play making ability that Jacobs brings. So, I think if we can swing him from New York for a reasonable draft pick or even one of our rb’s then we’d be set moving forward. Sorry I had to post it up here just like I’m sure 30 other blogs are. It had to be said. By the way, if you are confused by this, Brandon Jacobs supposedly is pretty pissed that he lost the starting job in New York. I don’t think he and Tom Coughlin see eye-to-eye so he is “expected” to ask for a trade. Hopefully he can deal with splitting carries wherever he goes because thats what the league is now-a-days. So anyways I’m just throwing it out there for everybody to debate.
This was my post (now deleted)
If the FO believes it will
Create "W"s…
It should be done.
Personally, I’d give up Ksmooth and Mo Morris for Jacobs. It would take him to convince me that he’s in it to win it and not to be a whiny cry baby, though.
Wow, that's really funny.
Because Ronald McDonald slapping a Big Mac out of somebody’s hand has so much relation to a football player throwing their helmet into the stands.
WOW... that's why you think I posted that?
Actually, it was more that Topher thought he had a good joke in his hand… and That’s me slapping the not funny joke down.
Here… figure this one out….lol

OK...
So if you’re Ronald McDonald above slapping the “bad joke” out of someone’s hands, then this is you getting shot in the face? Am I supposed to be the Burger King? I don’t get it. Pull out another .gif and maybe I’ll understand.

Yeah I am not sold on this guy
Everyone knows I am pro LGB. But for some reason I am not pro Brandon Jacobs. First of all we can run between the tackles, at least 2 of Bests TD runs have been from 10 yards or less and have been runs in between the tackles.
If your talking about a power running game that is a bit different. That we do not have. I don’t know why the hell they are putting Best in to get beat up on a goal line when they can put Felton in there behind Suh. I know that many think Felton is unproven in short yardage, and truth be told he is. But its is not his fault that our line gets owned. If they could open a freaking hole it would not matter.
The issue is not the running back, it is the offensive line, and going out and getting an over priced, whiny, cry baby, back up is not going to help us in any way whatsoever. Maybe we should put SLH or KVB in there as a lead blocker and let Suh carry the ball. ;)

Jacobs can't run with the Giants superior O Line, what do you expect him to do with ours?
Besides Jacobs is injury prone [misses about four games every year] which I just see that frequency increasing as the cumulative effect of all the hits he has taken add up.
No thanks to BJ and LGB. Where are all the Felton supporters? That bandwagon emptied in a hurry.
I should be used to fickle Lions fans by now, but it is always surprising to me. Sigh.
I like Jacobs, but for a rebuilding team......
His ego and poor attitude would be a major cancer. That is the whole reason the FO didn’t get Albert Haynesworth. They were afraid that he would corrupt our young stud DT, Ndamukong Suh. The same can be said for Jacobs and Best. I love Jacobs, but no way will the FO try and go after him.
Like brandon ALOT
Sometimes his “passion” or attitude can be a problem but there is NO back in the NFL with that kind of power. I say bring him in to do Feltons job a short yard powerback.
GET WELL SOON MATT! We need ya man
I like Jacobs
His size is impressive, and he’d definitely fit the power compliment in our running back unit, but is he too expensive? Is he too injury prone? Does he have the passion? They are all questions which have me apprehensive. We shall see if any moves are made.
RIP Robyn Bailey 1961 - 2010. I love you mum.
I don't like Jacobs anywhere near as much as I used to
He may be big, but he’s not very good at running thru the tackles. I don’t know if he can’t, or if he just cashed it in and doesent care, either scenario, I don’t want him on my team. I do agree that we need a power back tho. Honestly, those two plays on 3rd and 4th and 1, didn’t even look like they tried. That’s how much they were dominated. I mean it seemed like it wasn’t even real plays, and Jahvid just seemed to run and fall into the sacks of pillows in front of him, on both plays. I disnt see alot of replays but I didn’t see him leap or have his feet churning, it was the only time I said “wow” negatively with him involved. Now I don’t know if this was before or after he was hurt/ extremely gassed, because he was definately that near the end of the game, you could see it. But if he was heading into that play, you gotta let someone know because you can’t be either if you are about to fight for 1 hard earned yard. There will be no hole you just have to want it more, and while I love the passion, it’s ok to admit that I’m gassed and maybe not the best option. Besides that, Beat had an amazing game, and in no way am I taking away from
that. But reading about our need for a power back reminded me of those 2 embarassing plays. Frankly I’d rather have Marshawn Lynch, an All Cal backfield.
Jacobs sounds good in theory, but...
it’s his attitude that I don’t like. The whole reason he’s forcing his way out of New York is because he’s pissed that he was demoted to the number two back behind Ahmad Bradshaw. Best is the clear cut no. 1 guy here in Detroit, so I don’t see his attitude improving in any way by moving here.
It’s a shame, really, because he would be the perfect compliment to Best, and the ideal goal line back. Let’s just say he wouldn’t need Suh to block for him on the one yard line.
Jacobs wants traded
because he is the backup in NY and not the starter, what do you think he would be here in Detroit ?
Cory Smith
Jacobs is a waste of time
The guy is near 250 pounds and tries to make cuts like #20. There was a reason he lost his starting job this year and it’s because he runs straight up and tries to juke people instead of running over them.
The guy plays more like Darren Sproles when he should be playing like Christian Okoye. Yeah, most of you don’t know who Christian was but you all suck anyway.
The Nigerian Nightmare
who preceeded Barry WORD in KC. Yeah not all of us are so young and some of us were Techmo bowl players; THE ONLY FOOTBALL GAME BEFORE MADDEN! It’s funny you made that comparison cause I have thought of Jacobs as a poor mans Okoye for his entire career. He has the size and determination of Christian but not the speed.
How many lumps you want Doc?
Steve Atwater blew him up, and he was never the same after that
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
Like Brandon
just not in Detroit. The guy is 6’2 6’4 somewhere and has had injury problems. I think that Felton is the only answer we need until Smitty comes back and then let them battle it out. The call on 3rd and one and 4th and one made me sick you bring in Suh to block but you got Best at 190 as the back and it failed two times in a row. I say throw that out and never explore that again.
The reason i don’t like it is you got our two first round picks playing out of position. On short yardage the defense wants to get lower than the offense and Suh coming up the middle could catch a helmet to the knee or anything and him getting hurt playing lead blocker is a waste. I know that on any given play Suh could get hurt but his chances of getting hurt on defense are way lower than on offense way lower. Plus i think that Will Heller is more than capable of doing the job and much more better than Suh at blocking. As for Best playing the shortage back your killing me. Did anybody notice around the 3rd quarter how slow Best was getting up, that is why Felton is the fullback thats why he is on the roster. I love Best just as much as the next Lions fan but i don’t want to see him beaten and battered half way into the season.
Can we stop talking about releasing Smitty and Hanson now....
Agreed
We need to get Felton the ball more, period. He’s the guy that should be pounding the ball into the endzone when we’re on the goal line, not Best with Suh in front of him. Not sure why the staff hasn’t found a way to get him more actively involved.
Best already has health issues in the past, the last thing we need is for him to get hurt on the one yard line trying to punch the ball into the end zone when Felton seems more capable of handling that job anyways.
I say get'em
I have always been happy that we got Best in the draft. What I have been wanting is a tough, consistant short yard gaining runner like Brandon. He is a perfect player to get that 4 yrds per carry when you need it most. Due to our horrible blocking this is what we need and I would much rather have him and him get hurt then some of the other players. I am not a fan of K Smith and if people want to keep him I am fine with that. I would say that we could get him on the cheep and still trade say MM or someone else back there to replace what we give up for him. Also on throwing downs he would be a great blocking asset IMO. I am sure we could restructure his contract, maybe pay him less and more front loaded for this season so not to effect future seasons since we have no cap this year. I am sure he would go for that.
Brandon Who?
I enjoying watching Brandon Jacobs play but not in Honolulu blue. Firstly, his salary is pretty big for a back up running back. Secondly that attitude of his spells disaster in the locker room and lastly, those ankles and knees of his are pretty worn out…. There’s a reason he got demoted in NY. Besides why do we have Felton on the roster if we need a Brandon Jacobs.
I like felton last year
Lets be honest here…How many short yard conversions or TDs has Jerome actually converted. I’d rather hand the ball to Suh at that point. Its what Nebraska did.

I wish they would have given the ball to Suh on that 4th down attempt.
Fuck Blockin’ Give the Kid the Rock!!!
I think a lot of us see Felton as the power back, if the coaches would just use him
And put a real blocker in front of him too, not a defensive player. All due respect to Suh I would rather see Jason Fox or one of our backup offensive linemen in there at fullback for Felton than Suh. There is absolutely no question in my mind that their blocking skills are superior to his and putting him in there is just a cute, gimmick IMO.
Hell put 8 linemen out there and put Grew back there at fullback, whatever the mix is I am sure there are better personnel schemes out there than Suh at full back. With all of our big receivers why are we not just lining up and throwing a quick slant like we did for the 2 point conversion for that matter? I am not just talking about Calvin either. Bryant Johnson, Tony Scheffler, and Brandon Pettigrew all are physical mismatches too. Oh and even Will Heller, I forgot him.
