Around SBN: Events Cause Mariners To Lose To Rangers

2 weeks and the word is mum?

It has been almost 2 weeks sense are franchise QB was hurt. A hard hit from pro bowl defensive end Julius Peppers left Matthew Stafford on the sideline to watch Shaun Hill attempt be beat a Chicago Bears team that turns out is better than expected. So the Head coach said 1st its his shoulder we don't have all the facts yet. Fair enough no reason to speculate. Then Schwartz says Matts MRI was positive and they did not feel surgery was neccesary. Whew that was close great news there. THEN Jim says Matthew will see Dr. James Andrews with his father. Thats not usually a good sign but hey better safe than sorry. Now Jim Schwartz says we will not rush Matt back he will play when he is healthy. Ok but what about?...He will play when he is healthy. Yea but whe....? He will play when he is ready.

I love what Jim is doing here, or do I? I have more than once proffesed my man crush on the Lions QB so a serious injury worries me about are season, Hell even are future. I am writing this just to clear my head on the situation a little. So here is the upsides to keeping Mattys injury on the Q.T. For one you make teams consider that there is always a chance the Big arm bulldog will be back under center sunday so we should plan that in the game plan. Also with Matts Injury not being public it enforces the idea that everything stays in house I have your back I expect my players to have mine. Not putting a time table on the QBs return also won't make Matt feel rushed to play by a certain date but Matt being Matt I am sure he is ready to play I think Calvin is ready too.

So 4 out of my 5 fantasy teams have Stafford as a fantasy QB 2 as a backup to Brees. Yet thats not the biggest negative to me. I know that when Jim came to detroit he was aware of are history. He said we were going to change the mentality around here and he has. Think of are past I know you don't want to but do it. Scott Mitchell when we could have had Warren Moon. Andre Ware never anything more than a poor backup. Rodney Pete probably the best of this group. Blue eyes heart of a Lion Joey Harrington we can speculate why that didn't work but lets not. Dante sexpepper the days of old were long gone. John Kitna the best QB we have had for awhile until now. Matt have given this team, this city, the fanbase a real hope a sense of pride. Yea we picked him to quote T.O " THATS MY QUATERBACK!" So it only seems right that fans are concerned about Staffords golden shoulder. He's are ticket out of the gutter how bad is it? The true down side to all this hush is the fans suffer. We already have people on P.O.D calling for peoples heads. The questions what if Matt played? We will never know but it would be nice to know When. Ticket sales will be back to norm until we win but I tell you this Matt sells more tickets than Hill. You say Matt can play in about 3 weeks Ticket sales won't slump so bad.

So we have heard it all 2-3 weeks with a mild sprain or 4-8 weeks with another seperated shoulder. So I guess the update on Matthew for those of us desprate for something positive on the injury. He will play when he's healthy in 2-8 weeks give or take. Until then Shaun Hill is are starting Quaterback. I will be the last person to second guess how Jim dose buisness he knows why he dose what he dose. There is a method to his madness. Damn it's frustrating though Knowing the team as TONS more talent. Best looks like a game breaker waiting to happen on every touch. Suh is a beast to say the least. Yet are best player the key to unlocking this teams potential is sitting in a skybox last sunday watching his team with another leader. Damn Matt thats your team get on the sideline and make your presense knowin wether the coach wants you to or not!

As always Get well soon Matt we need ya!

Good post

so 2-8 weeks, in football terms that means he’ll be back in 4weeks…

I'm thinkin'..........

JS had conceded the first half of the season to Hill. I believe with the mystery involved, Staff won’t be back before the bye. By that time, if we dont start playing better defense, we could be anywhere from 0-7 to 2-5, but I have to see the FIRST win before I’m convinced!

I'm holding out hope that he still has a shot to play at Minnesota.

Until Schwartz says that Hill is starting again, I’m hoping and praying that Matty is back under center this week. No news is no news, so what’s to say he isn’t? He hasn’t had his arm in a sling or anything. I know, I’m being overly optimistic, but I still contend there is a chance.

I agree there is a chance

I hope like hell Matt can play in minnesota. I don’t care if they announce it during kickoff but like you said No news is Now news. Neither bad or good.

I don't know man

If I wanted him back, it probably wouldn’t be against the Viqueens. I could just see a repeat of Sackus miffing a block and Staff’s arms falling out of his socket on the ground.

YAHOO sports player update*

QB Matthew Stafford (right shoulder injury) watched the game Sunday with a headset on up in the coach’s box. “Just to give him a little perspective,” Schwartz said. “It was interesting, his whole career he never spend time up there. We wanted to let him see the game and get him away from the emotion of the game. We wanted him to be a little less of a cheerleader, so to speak, and more seeing how a game is managed from up there.” Stafford is still doubtful for Sunday’s game against Minnesota. “He will play quarterback for us again when he’s healthy and he’s able to do all the things he needs to do,” Schwartz said.

I don't disagree with any of what you said

but hasn’t it been more like a week and a day?

agreed...

but if we don’t know by now, we won’t know until he takes the snap on gameday more than likely.

Well for all the reasons you listed they will be tight lipped about not only when he will come back, but also the specifics of the injury

Keep in mind that we want to protect our investment, and it wont do to have dirty players taking cheap shots at what they think is a weak point.

I saw him up in the box there and I noticed two things that should cheer you up. His shoulder was not in a sling, which it has not been since the post game locker room interviews. His shoulder not being in a sling speaks volumes about how sever the injury was/is. Also he was leaning forward, supporting his body with his arms and shoulders, both of them. If he had any real injury he would not be supporting his body weight on that shoulder.

I expect that he could be back this week. Watch to see if he takes reps in practice. But they might play it safe and hold him out until they return home against the Rams in week 5. I think that is who we play in week 5 anyways. But it would be wise to let him fully recover and not have him facing the “Shock and A.W.W.E.” line in Minnesota, nor Clay Mathews in Green Bay. Let Hill take the beating and tough out a road win in Minnesota I say. :)

Without a doubt...

Do what Chicago and Philly did against us

Screen, draw, etc. We’ve got it going a little, but Minnesota is one of those aggressive lines that will overpenetrate. I think we can gameplan against them like we’ve been planned against.

Oh Yeah!!!

So you admit that you have a man crush

Don’t worry these guys around here will get on you for that, this is coming from a guy who got ribb’ed quite a bit for supposidly having a “man-crush” on REV about a year and a half ago already…… Needless to say I still have my favorites around here!!!!

How many lumps you want Doc?

OUR and DOES

that’s all

Just because there is a goalie, doesn't mean you can't score!

I'd like to see hi back this week

Especially since I think we’d need him to beat the Vikes, but if he doesn’t that’s alright. Get healthy, that’s the main thing.
