Schwartz's 3rd Quarter woes continue....

The 2010 Detroit Lions are 0-3... But why? Is it poor talent? poor coaching? or a bit of both? As I sit in the fence of the 'bit of both' category now, I'm starting to lean towards coaching...

Here's why.....

Yes, Schwartz inherited a horrible team. Yes, we all understand the situation in which he walked into... but is the situation, the lack of talent, or the history of this team distracting Schwartz from his own obvious coaching deficiencies?

Did you know, that the Lions have managed to score points in the 3rd quarter only 5 times since Schwartz has been coach.

Hmmm... that means the Lions are 1-5 when scoring in the 3rd quarter... and 1-14 when they don't...

On the flip side...

The Lions have given up 137pts in the 3rd Quarter on defense, in fact... there has been only 3 games (StLouis'09, Cards'09, and Bears '10) where they have allowed none. This works out to be a bit more than 7 pts a game.

With the Lions losing by an average of almost 15pts/loss in the 17 games that Schwartz and co have lost... A huge reason for that has to do with half time adjustments. Being shutout 74% of the time while giving up more than 7pts is a glaring statistic.

Yes, I combined the total games... and why not? So far this year, the trend hasn't changed. The Lions to date, have still been out scored 17-0 in the 3rd.

To ME, this is THE glaring reason for the 0-3 record. Not the talent, not the poor secondary... but the halftime adjustments/or lack there of. With Stafford, without Stafford... the statistics are so poor in the 3rd Quarter that it just doesn't matter.

I'm not being a pessimist...lol... I'm not jumping ship... I'm simply pointing out a glaring deficiency of the Lions coaching staff. Especially this year where we DO have better talent and are losing by an average of only 7pts/game.... hmmmm that number sounds familiar.

Flame on.
