Our Offense is just Offensive
Am i the only one that is frustrated with the lack of Calvin Johnson in the Offense? Why do i have to watch Screen Plays on 3rd and 10?
Why is it that every game so far we see Jahvid Best break out and amaze us all in the first quarter then we hear nothing else until the end of the game (Yes even the Philly Game) or for that matter only see Calvin Johnson in quarter 4?
Im sorry to say it, but Scott Linehan needs to go. And Schwartz needs to change his Tennessee state of mind. I totally understand where your coming from Schwartz, the Titans run, run, run and then they run some more but they also never had the best WR in the NFL either. I totally understand that we haven't seen enough of Nate Burleson to fully judge the offense, he is going to create more openings for CJ and hopefully we will get to see the real offense. Stafford being hurt is a legit excuse. That being said none of this answers my biggest question, which is why the heck we throw screen plays all the time. Not once have i seen a deep shot, and i'm talking over the Safeties bomb shot. Why is it we come out trying to run? Schwartz and Linehan expect everybody to respect Best and this run game, but let's be real there is only one guy Defenses have to respect right now, only one guy who has really proven himself and we all know that is #81. Why don't we come out gunning? Hitting Scheffler and Pettigrew and maybe a Safety will pull off CJ and we can hit him. Oh i almost forgot after you got the Defense on their heels you give it to Best and let him go. Nope instead we let the Defense have 7 in the Box defending the box 1 CB on whoever that guy is on the other side and the other CB and Safeties on CJ. When Kevin Smith returns just run him out there in the Slot and let him go over the middle all the time. Please Please Please Schwartz help us.
Oh and Stafford, Hurry Back.

Hey....
You didn’t happen to start a topic this morning about firing Mayhew, did you?
by delusional on Sep 30, 2010 12:09 AM EDT via mobile reply actions
Nope i did not
But i read it and while i don’t think we should get rid of him, I do think the jury is still out. Stafford,Delmas, and Pettigrew were all great picks but then you have Derrick Williams and Aaron Brown who show flashes of something but can’t be consistent with it same with Follett and while i do like him i have seen him miss and i mean miss by a mile, on more than a few tackles.
And this years Draft class he got the most obvious pick in a lifetime in Suh and Best seems to be doing well but also looks to be lacking some toughness. Spievey failed at CB is a Backup Safety at most, Fox is a project. I know i am forgetting some picks.
Sammie Lee Hill and Pettigrew have both good but not great. Pettigrew is to slow so you had to go out and trade for Sceffler and Hill wasn’t good enough to start because you needed to go get Corey Williams.
So all in all has Mayhew done a good job? Yes he has but he also gets more praise than he deserves
I read the first line of your post.
“Am i the only one that is frustrated with the lack of Calvin Johnson in the Offense? Why do i have to watch Screen Plays on 3rd and 10?”
And then I didn’t read any more.

Sick of blame
You can blame anyone all you want LOL..The fact is we just need it fixed. If scott can get that done then more power to him. Remeber he had the offense last year too. Something has changed. QB maybe? You can say Stafford wasn’t all that effective but IMO he didn’t play long enough to make that judgment.
Next topic please
GET WELL SOON MATT! We need ya man
Stafford is great
never said he wasn’t its the plays they call on the sideline i have problems with
Many of you will chalk this up to coach speak
That and covering hiss ass. Linehan finally spoke publicly of what "looks: like conservitave play calling. I guess for know this is the explanation we are getting and alot of it makes sense to me.

You know it
I know it, we all know it! Our offense is like a car without a key right now. Without Stafford we aren’t going to do much, and that’s regardless of Shaun Hill or anyone else for that matter. The fact is, this offense was built around Stafford and without him here to run it we have very limited options. But what I think people don’t get is that our team is an offensive based team. Without our offense firing on all cylinders we wont win many (if any) games. So far Shaun Hill along with the rest of the offense has been serviceable but without a good defense to back us up we just can’t win much in this league. I mean in minny we looked bad but we did drive it down the field more than the scoreboard showed. I have a feeling had Stafford been in we would’ve had at least a couple more scores. Just be patient and wait until the key to the ignition comes back. The beginning of our season may be shot but that doesn’t mean the rest has to be.
I love how we keep hearing
how the OC is at fault for the QB’s lack of abillity or will to make good throws. you do realize calvin is deep every other play, right? I am sure its all the OC screaming at Hill to ignore Calvin. That must be it. Or maybe, just maybe TEAMS DON’T RESPECT ANY OTHER DEEP THREAT BECAUSE WE DON’T HAVE 1!!!!!!

I half agree (pun intended.)
Break down the first half production vs. the 2nd half production.
Night and day.
Black and white.
Siskel and ebert…..uh, no that doesn’t fit….
Hot and cold….
You should all get what I’m saying by now.
No doubt, they have to come out in the 3rd Quarter....
with something new. Maybe they team goes flat… maybe that’s on Schwartz to get them ready to go. I dunno. But they have to increase that 3rd quarter production. Actually, I’m not sure they’ve scored yet in the 3rd… have they?
you have qb in hill who doesnot have a great armfor deep pass but is good at short pass game plus the lions just played 3of the best pass rush teams in football yes they should pass deep aleast 3times a game to keep teams from jumping short passing game . but if yourthe lions coach do you tach a chance that backup qb ets killed and you then a re forest two start your 3qb who is not as good as your 2qb your do try to keap the game close and try towin it in the 4qt also the lions should be 2and if they could few calls from the ref sin game need iremind the catch that was called not a catch and know offencse pass interafance at and of 1st haft of phi game that cost the lions a toach dowen agestthen the lions get those call and they 2and 1 not oand3
I understand that Injuries have hurt us
But the Playcalling still sucks. I know Hill is not going to be Stafford. Burleson is going to open up Johnson i understand this too. But this is the NFL and Injuries happen its a fact of the game. So please tell me why do we always use Injuries as an excuse? Linehan should know if he is as good as we all drum him up to be he can figure out a way to still be a great offense without his Number 2 WR and a pretty darn good Backup in at QB.
To quote Linehan... or some what quote him....
“Each play has it’s own home run threat depending on the defense.”
If that’s the case, then so be it.
BTW, Killer has an article on the subject that’s a decent read…. a couple more quotes and explainations.
Yup, it is a good article.

I’ll lay off whining too loud about the O for a bit. But I don’t buy the back up QB excuse as being a reason for their issues, that some like to point out.
I'll give in and say its a factor...
as in lack of reps, rustiness and communication errors… but if it doesn’t level out soon….. well…. The good news is the bye week is only 2 games away.
0-3 is tough… but so were the games/teams.
Lets just say that I’m picking detroit to cover the spread.
I know i just got done Bashing the Lions
But they should have been 3-0 right now. The Catch in Chicago. Maclin pushed off on his TD Catch and Philly. and miscues and in my view plain robberies cost us in Minnesota. Seriously that hands to the face call would not be called for any other QB but it was Farve
but they should have chrushed every team
if there Offense was clicking
I am going to saay one thing and then not bother with this thread, OFFENSIVE LINE SUCKS
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
I think Linehin taking heat
because we all envision a top tier NFL offense. Currently that has not happened but it doesn’t mean it couldn’t. We have a lot of young exciting talent out there…it better b/c the lions have definitely invested heavily (for the negative peeps out there).

I think we are actively trying to get CJ in the game
We do target him fairly often, it’s just a case of Hill dumping it off because of pressure. I don’t expect much to change against the Pack.
RIP Robyn Bailey 1961 - 2010. I love you mum.
