Around SBN: Dissecting Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

A 53 man roster I could live with.

Its fun to take a stab at what the 53 man roster might look like.  I know I’m not right, but it is a roster I wouldn’t mind seeing next week in Chicago.

Star-divide

Offense:

Quarterback:                     Mathew Stafford              Shaun Hill                           Drew Stanton

Wide Receiver 1:              Calvin Johnson                  Brian Clark                         Derrick Williams

Wide Receiver 2:              Nate Burleson                   Bryant Johnson

Running Back:                   Jahvid Best                         Maurice Morris                Aaron Brown      DeDe Dorsey

Fullback                              Jerome Felton

Tight End                            Brandon Pettigrew           Tony Scheffler                   Dan Gronkowski

Left Tackle                         Jeff Backus                         Jason Fox

Left Guard                          Rob Sims

Center                                 Dominic Raiola                  Dylan Gandy

Right Guard                        Stephen Peterman            Manny Ramirez

Right Tackle                       Gosder Cherilus                 Jon Jansen

Defense:

Left End                              Cliff Avril                             Willie Young

Left Tackle                         Ndamukong Suh               Sammie Hill

Right Tackle                       Corey Williams                  Landon Cohen

Right End                            Kyle Vanden Bosch           Lawrence Jackson

Left Linebacker                 Julian Peterson                  Caleb Campbell                 Ashlee Palmer

Middle Linebacker            DeAndre Levy                    Landon Johnson

Right Linebacker               Zack Follet                          Vinny Ciurciu

Left Cornerback                Chris Houston                    Dre’ Bly                               Paul Pratt

Right Cornerback              Jonathan Wade                 Dante Wesley                    Aaron Berry

Strong Safety                     Randy Phillips                    Ko Simpson

Free Safety                         Louis Delmas                     Amari Spievey

Long Snapper                    Don Muhlbach

Punter/Holder                   Nick Harris

Kicker                                  Steve Hauschka

Look for Jason Hansen to start the season injured, giving Hauschka the start against Chicago.  I know my safety list is a pipe dream.  Unfortunately look for C.C. Brown to make the 53 man roster and start.  He would give Detroit a better chance of a winning season by playing for anyone but us.  Besides, his presence would probably put Paul Pratt on the practice squad, who just keeps improving.  Another notable is Gronkowski over Heller.  Gronk has played well both on offense and special teams.

As for Kevin Smith, keep in mind Schwartz has always said he will go with players that give them the best chance of winning.  Kevin Smith is not 100% yet.  Both Brown and Dorsey have out performed him this preseason.

not bad but a few changes

i think K Smith, C.C.,Hauschka, will all make the team.. But i think Hauschka will be put on the practice squad so we can keep him for next yr. i do not think that Hanson will play another season.. DeDe will also more than likely to hit the squad as well. and KO will most likely be cut

Lions fan for life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here's me looking into the future at the Lions going to the Play-offs by 2011 and going to the Super Bowl in 2012!!!

Haushka and DeDe aren't eligible for the PS

they’ve both been in the league too long

Not too shabby

I’d cut Stanton. He won’t be picked up by another team and has zero trade value. Keep his number on speed dial in case Stafford gets hurt.
Felton makes it by default because he’s the only alleged FB on the roster.. I’d cut him, he’s done nothing except look good in preseason against 3rd string scrubs just like Stanton. Line up Heller at H-back/FB if you need too. At least Heller knows how to block.
I think they’re gonna IR Fox and keep Hilliard.
I hope the Lions keep 4 TEs. TE and DL are the only positions with great depth on the team.
They’ll keep Smith and cut Dorsey. Numbers game and DeDe is the odd man out.
I think they might keep Rocky Boiman.
Aaron Berry and Caleb Campbell will be cut and get on the PS.
Hauschka is gone. I’ll take Hansons 81% track record over Hauschkas 67% all day any day.
I don’t think Brian Clark makes the team.

Keeping Smith over MoMo

Hanson over Hauschka
I think that MoMo carries more of a trade value than Smith and plus Schwartz isn’t ready to give up on Smith. I like the ideal of Heller playing FB and cutting Felton, i hope none of are TE get the boot, only problem who is going to be the short yard back.

I think Smith needs more time

I hope to god Schwartz doesn’t cut Brown and Dorsey. I think that Dorsey brings more to the Lions than Smith and MoMo and Brown has looked better than both Smith and Mo. I just don’t want the Lions to cut Smith or Mo if they can get something for them, thats why i say Smith over Mo.
