Lions Notes: Warren Sapp Impressed By Ndamukong Suh

  • As Tom Kowalski points out, much is made over the 53-man roster, but the reality of the situation is that it will change quite a bit over the course of the season and even the next week or so. The first draft of the 53-man roster will generate lots of attention because of which players do and do not make the team, but it is merely the first of many changes that will be made to the roster over time.
  • Warren Sapp broke down Ndamukong Suh's game for a segment on NFL Network. He seems to be a very big fan of Suh.
  • Korey Bosworth broke his leg against the Bills, so I would imagine he will be waived/injured today.
  • Louis Delmas, C.C. Brown, Jahvid Best, DeAndre Levy, Jeff Backus and Corey Williams didn't play against the Bills on Thursday. Some of those players are dealing with injuries, whereas others simply got the night off.
  • NFL.com has the Lions as one of five new contenders for the next decade. I sure hope they're right.
  • Bill Ford Jr. is very happy with the "new regime" that is leading the Lions.
  • The Lions will have cheerleaders at their games this season -- unofficial cheerleaders, that is.

that clip with Warren Sapp the other day. . .he almost seemed excited and giddy about Suh. . .probably something similar to how Schwartz feels about Javid Best highlights

On the roster turnover.

I was looking at a list from I think the Detroit Free Press online earlier today. They have a roster tracker, and when I scrolled down and just glanced at the moves, additions and subtractions, I was simply amazed the number we had compared to other teams. I think our front office works harder than most at improving the roster. And the Bills game is on NFL Network right now so I am going to go watch it :)

That Drew Sharp interview with Ford Jr. is a very good read.

I know the cynics and naysayers and pessimists will continue to wail and fret; “We’ve heard this all before”, but I disagree. Some of the details that Jr. passes on regarding the organization have never been heard before. And also, anyone who has seen what Mayhew has done over the last twenty-one months or so has to admit that he is doing more to make changes than anyone before him. That includes pre-Millen.

I was originally against the hiring of Mayhew [a Millen underling?!?] but the guy has won me over by his steady ongoing commitment to improve the Lions. Be it through trades, the draft, free agency, waivers, or staff hirings.

Many of us may not agree with the particulars of the “Plan”, hell we spend a lot of time arguing just what the “Plan” is, but Mayhew [and Schwartz] believes in it and has everyone on the same page trying to make it happen.

I am just glad that after forty years or so of being a Lions fan we look to be pointed in a good direction with some capable people leading the way.

+ Bazillion :)

I understand people’s need to discuss .. air their viewpoints ..and at times disagree with what the lions do .. Football is such a big business, that everything is magnified … and if you are not doing right, you will know and if you do wrong, you will know too .. Just read the experts (Not ESPN) .. But most experts . Terry Bradshaw gave us some love last few years, but most people were reluctant to even put 5 bucks on the line ..

Now no one can get enough of the Lions, and everyone is giving us some love .. why ? . The people who cover the business have seen success take shape before, and now they see it with us.

I was also one of those who thought .. What Mayhew ? .. He is a Millen guy …. Ford is dumb and we need to clean house .. Roy Williams trade broke my heart, cuz he was the 1 decent receiver (compared to Rogers and Williams) .. But I bit my tongue .. Wished we had a Shanahan or a Bill Parcells runing the show ..

But sometimes, you have to be careful what we wish for .. I wanted Martz and his glamor real bad .. got it .. Offense was good .. But fights and the worst time for a lion fan. Did I agree with mayhew’s hiring? NO .. Do I now think I was wrong .. YES

Most successful franchises seem unsexy .. How did the falcons turn it around, Miami, Pitts after Bill Cowher .. GB parting with Farve ..And what Chicago and Minn has done recently, they will pay for it for years … IMO

All I am saying .. out Staff is doing a job we could have only dreamed of .. it’s not right to get nasty about stuff they do. I might not agree with something they might do, but in the end, I will bow my head to their wisdom .. cuz believe it or not .. The Lions FO now has Wisdom :)

A little love…

One thing analysts hate, is being wrong about the seemingly obvious. If an analyst goes out on a limb saying "Payton Manning is going to suck this year" and Payton is normal Payton, the analyst looks like an idiot. However, if the analyst says "Payton is going to be great" and Payton does suck, everyone can say "wow didn’t see that coming". It is the same with the Lions; it is the "safe" thing to say 4-12 and bottom of the division. If the Lions surprise over the next few years, "wow they are better than we thought".

I have noticed some Lions "love" starting to emerge from a FEW football analysts lately. But to be safe, they take baby step predictions. Some of the most telling things I have read; "third in the Division", "high score win Week 1", and high praises of our QB and 2nd round draft pick. If you take in account paragraph one above, some probably think the Lions will actually do better but don’t want to go against the so called "obvious’.

/sip… its cool-aid, but mannnnn it tastes better and better these days

BREAKING NEWS !!!!!

After hearing the Lions will be having cheerleaders WCF dis-owned Jr. and removed him from the will

WFC was last seen storming away from the famly Labor Day picnic in a fit of rage screaming at the top of his lungs, " We never had to worry about anyone cheering when Millen was here!!"

I thought being lazy was a bad thing, So I gave up thinking.
