NFL Roster Cuts: Lions Release Tim Toone

According to Pride of Detroit user thePROD1GY, wide receiver Tim Toone posted on his Facebook page that he was released by the Lions.

The wide receiver position is pretty crowded, so this would come as no surprise, especially since the Lions may keep only four wideouts. Toone does have a great chance of making the practice squad, though. If the Lions do indeed keep only four receivers, then having one or two on the practice squad will be necessary, so I think Toone will be kept around despite being released.

Toone will be on the PS, imo

If he would have had a big impact in the return game this preseason. He probably would have made the team.

Can we stop talking about releasing Smitty and Hanson now....

yeah

no surprise. I was hoping Toone would make the 53 just because he was Mr Irrelevant. It’s an underdog kind of thing. You have a better chance of making a team as an undrafted free agent rookie then you do as the last overall pick of the draft.

No suprise here either ...

Quite frankly, given what little he showed during the preseason, it would have spelled “doom” for the Lions if he ended up being one of their 53 best …

Good luck Mr Irrelevant elsewhere …

No surprise here

wondering if Lions cut Northcut or Williams

Given the fact that they cut Jansen for youth

I bet even money they keep Williams.

True ..

I feel the Lions will keep the better of the 2, not cuz Northcutt is owed money .. So if they keep Williams, I will be happy .. If now .. oh well .. maybe Northcutt was doing stuff that the coaches wanted him to ..

Wait and watch

I was pull'n

for Toone but agree; if he would have been better at returns he probably would have made it. No suprise definate PS material. I think it will be interesting if they go 4 or 5 WRs. If they go 4, I see them possibly keeping all 4 TEs. “Talk about it…”

yep .. I didn't see that coming

But Chris McCosky said 4 Rec and 4 TE .. since we will run a lot of 2 tight end sets … SO another blow softened for me .. Williams might be on his way out …

Anyone wanna..

..compare him to Wes Welker or Mike Furrey one more time before he’s gone? No? ok then.

Troy Polamalu breathes a sigh of relief...

…his “Best Hair in the NFL” title appears to be safe for another year.

They should only keep 4 receivers IMO if northcut makes it, it will be as a returner not a receiver

When you consider that Tony Scheffler and Aaron Brown are both hybrid receivers I would not be surprised to see even WIlliams and Northcut both cut. All we can really do is wait and see. But I think everyone knew this one was coming.
