ESPN "Experts" Pick Lions Last in Division
Our friends at ESPN have picked the Lions to finish last in the division again, see their preview page for the Lions here: http://espn.go.com/nfl/preview10/team/_/name/det. I find it hard to believe that they keep John Clayton around, he who ranks Jay Cutler as the #15 QB in the league, and Matthew Stafford at #27. Cutler led the league in INTs last year, and playing in a Mike Martz offense this year, he could easily exceed his INT total of 26 from last year. Clayton comments that the Lions will have the 2nd most improved offense in the division behind the Bears. What Bears team has he been watching in pre-season?
The Lions will continue to receive negative press in the major outlets until they start winning games in the regular season.

Preseason doesn't count anyways
We don’t know how good either of the Lions or Bears will be in 2010 based on preseason stats. What I do know is, based on Martz’s track record and the Bears recent history of ineptness, the Lions have a great chance of beating them on Sept 12th and maybe being way better than expected.

We don't deserve
to get picked any higher than last. Look at our track record. Anything better than last place this year will be a surprise even with our vast improvements. But looking at it from a different perspective, in 2007 we went 7-9 and IMO we have a much better team now than we did that year… but again that is all speculation

Well of course you guys are gonna finish last. You're the Lions without Barry Sanders!

Niners fan here… and yah, Clayton is a dunce. Cutler is gonna be another kid with a big gun that can’t aim it at all.
Clayton probably said something like this:
Some say that Cutler is so underrated that he is overrated, but to me this guy looks like John Elway. His ability to make any throw, beat you on the run, and do what ever he can to put his team in a winning position makes Cutler look like Elway.
about Cutler coming out of college and now he feels the need to stick with his pick. (Much like I believe Alex Smith is going to have a massive year this year.) The only difference is he’s wrong and I’m not.
A lot of the people on NinersNation see you guys going 8-8 this year. You guys have a talented young QB coming into his second year in an NFL system who will almost certainly cut down on his int %, (his biggest weakness last year), because he’ll now actually have a pretty damn talented back to check down to when Megatron is triple covered . The center of your defense just got better and will likely continue to improve throughout the year. Delmas is another talent.
The Bears have Cutler who has all the physical tools but hasn’t put it together yet, (If he ever does.) and they have Forte, Briggs and Urlacher… Briggs and Urlacher are still great but if 1 goes down write their season off.
A lot of the people on NinersNation see you guys going 8-8 this year. And by my math that will put you at a better record than the Bears. Welcome out of the cellar boys.
Gimme 1 round!

Thanks for the vote of confidence
Wish I could see that many wins. We are getting closer!
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
Understandable given the Lions history, BUT....
I think the worst the Lions do is 3rd. The Bears are going to nosedive this year and the Lions take both games from them.
The Vikings and the Pack are a different story, but I believe the Lions “steal” at least one game of the four, probably from the Packers.
Just my .02

I'll buy that for 2 pennies.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. Good Luck this year.
On a side note. Are you happy you guys kept Blount as your 3rd RB? I was impressed by him in the final pre-season game.
Blount is a kid with tremendous potential...
But he needs to grow up and develop a strong work ethic IMO. He’s in a good environment for that to happen. Vince Young has grown up a lot and it is really paying dividends on the field. I know that after his little meltdown a couple years ago people here were whining “they should have drafted Leinart”.
HA! No one is saying that anymore. Leinart will be lucky to play in Canada or AFL next year. NOBODY is going to pay that kid 6th year money.
Blount is a work in progress, so we’ll see. Pacman never did “get it” while he was here, but he’s a punk-ass.

Remember guys, it's not about this year
The talking heads can say all they want, but when if you look at the big picture, we’re looking really good right now. We’re at a point were other teams are actually envious of the amount of young talent right now.
