NFL Roster Cuts: Lions Release DeDe Dorsey

The running back position for the Lions provided one of the most interesting battles to watch this preseason. Jahvid Best is really the only true lock, leaving the others to battle for either two or three additional spots. It remains to be seen just how many backs the Lions will keep, but it seems one player already has been let go based on this tweet from DeDe Dorsey:

Welp...it was fun Detroit...

Dorsey had an exceptional preseason, so this move was all about a lack of room at the position rather than him not playing well. I'd bet Dorsey lands somewhere, as he showed a lot of promise during training camp and the preseason.

Denver?

Think he could end up with Denver? They just lost LenDale White for the season and have had some problems at RB….just a thought. Best of luck DeDe!

Another suspect move by Detroit.

I guess we can’t keep all of them.

Can we stop talking about releasing Smitty and Hanson now....

by SmittyJ on Sep 4, 2010 1:17 PM EDT reply actions

BS

They don’t know what they’re doing. Nobody is in love with DeDe Dorsey, but it was plain to anyone with a brain that he"s better and does more for the team than Smith. The backs should have been
Best
Brown
DeDe
Morris if you keep 4. I would then cut Morris or DeDe if Maroney or Blount is cut. This team needs a power back. Felton has shown flashes and I would give him a chance, but I would pick up th other guys if they are available.
The Jansen cut was also bad. This just screams same ole Lions. You keep talent…you release fodder – regardless of what you are paying them. If Gosder was a 5th round pick, he would be cut. So what difference does it make if a guy is drafted in the 1st. If he can play…he can play. If he sucks…he sucks. That’s how it should work. But so often it does not.

you're emotionally overreacting again

take a deep breath, have a smoke, think happy thoughts like Megan Fox and Stacy Dash in bikinis running in slow motion on a beach, wipe up, have another smoke, and just relax.
Let the roster take shape

I guarantee she has better burst

Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.

He’s not better than Smith. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was back in the UFL next year.

Now to ease the pain....

Get rid of DeDe which of course they did, pick up Willie Parker released from WAS, and still cut K.S.

I’m feelin it!

as stephen colbert would say

I CALLED IT!

I had a dream were the Lions let me sign a 1 day contract they let me practice with them running drills and catching passes from Matt…At the end of the day I was called into Mayhews office. I was told I had just been traded to seattle for a 5th round draft pick.

by The Profiler on Sep 4, 2010 1:58 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Another good move

Man I am liking how the cuts are going so far, we have one damn smart front office. And yes Ball security did him in. I went back and watched the games, just about every carry he had he could have fumbled. This is why he is only a desperation move by any NFL team and also why he never made it in the league so far. He holds the ball low and outside and swings it all over the place while running, furthermore he does it in traffic. This just goes to show too that though Schwartz thinks fumbles as a team are a statistical anomaly that will happen form time to time, he does think a player with poor ball security is still an issue.

both fumbles killed him

ya can’t fumble the rock and stay on our squad.

The fumbles are too much of a liability. 2 fumbles in 40 touches? Nah, gotta make that cut fo sho.
