not a big deal

we actually seem to have promising youth at the position. I am mildly excited with what could become a rather strong and cheap position for the lions.

Which solidifies

that he’ll remain in buffalo

by rom3o on Sep 4, 2010 6:14 PM EDT up reply actions

What if nobody claims him off of waivers, can you then sign him to the PS? Does the player have a choice as to which PS he wants to go to or is it automatic that team that released the player has the first chance to put him on the PS?

This is from rotoworld:
There is an extremely shaky report from Fox6 in Milwaukuee that T.J. Houshmandzadeh has signed with the Vikings, but it has not been confirmed elsewhere and looks false.

Even FOX6 itself seems unsure of its own report, saying they can not “personally confirm nor deny” their source’s claim. Which means they have no idea what they are doing. There may be fire to this smoke and the move could ultimately happen, but wait for a trusted news source to back this up before you believe anything.

by crashlion on Sep 4, 2010 6:38 PM EDT reply actions

i wonder if the timing has to do with making sure all teams release their cuts at the same time

there is a difference of 3 hours from east to west coast. Seeing as how a team on the west coast could use the time difference to their advantage i would imagine teams have to be finished at a certain time, not their local time of 6pm.

Love the trade ..

Gave a 3rd/4th string TE for a DB .. who is an upgrade over current player(king) … And to boot, our starting TE was acquired from Denver :)

SO now 5 WR … Northcutt and Williams both stay .. unless we make another trade/pickup ate WR or PR

by Libran on Sep 4, 2010 7:11 PM EDT reply actions

Went over to the broncos site

They don’t seem too worried that Smith got traded. I found it very surprising at the no reaction to the trade. Smith was basically the 14th pick of the 2010 draft (which they gave up in 2009 to move up) and they traded him for a 7th rounder. If the Lions did something like this, our fans would want Mayhew’s head on a stick.

there was alot of reaction

they’re happy he’s gone, but wish him well with a fresh start.
The fans admit that they have never given Smith a fair shake because of all the picks McD gave up to get him

Not really

There were a ton of comments so I searched the word Lion and it was only mentioned 20 times. Thats really not a lot of reaction for a management screwup that had them release basically a first round pick after one season

PUP List Rules
The Active PUP is for players that have some form of injury that will prevent them from starting training camp.

If placed on Active PUP, a player can rehab and participate in team meetings but cannot practice.

A player has to be placed on Active PUP before he begins training camp.
A player on Active PUP can be removed from the list at any time during camp.
A player on Active PUP counts against the league mandated roster limit (currently 80)

And one of the most important rules, a player must be on Active PUP in order to be considered for Reserve PUP.

At the end of preseason, if an Active PUP player is still several weeks away from being able to play, the team may place him on Reserve PUP.

Reserve PUP players are not eligible to play for the first six weeks of the season.
Reserve PUP players do not count against the 53 man roster.
Reserve PUP players have a three week window after Week 6 to practice with the team but a roster decision must be made, either to activate to the 53 or to IR the player, within that timeframe.

probably the only

“safe” corner we have

I had a dream were the Lions let me sign a 1 day contract they let me practice with them running drills and catching passes from Matt…At the end of the day I was called into Mayhews office. I was told I had just been traded to seattle for a 5th round draft pick.

I guess Leward is hand delivering it to a news source...

He just had to make one quick stop first.

not really. . .

Gronk probably wasn’t going to make the team. . .he would also have been snatched quickly once cut. . .both teams got a good deal

by Wick22 on Sep 4, 2010 8:26 PM EDT up reply actions

and i guess cus he played at Wake. That he is from that part of the country.

So if he got released. Seems like the Ravens would have the edge.
