Detroit Lions Name Four Captains
The Detroit Lions will have four captains this season -- two on offense, one on defense and one on special teams.
The Lions' two offensive captains are Matthew Stafford and Dominic Raiola. There's no doubt that Stafford has taken control of the offense and the team in general, quickly becoming a leader in year two of his NFL career. Then Raiola is one of the most outspoken players on the team, so it's no surprise that he is a captain.
On defense, I think everybody expected Kyle Vanden Bosch to be the captain, so it's no surprise that he is one of them. From the minute he signed he became a veteran leader for the defense. During training camp, he served as a mentor for the younger defensive players and showed them all what kind of hustle is expected, serving as not only a leader but a role model as well.
On special teams, the captain is once again Jason Hanson. No surprises there, just as there were really no surprises with the other players that were named captains of the Lions.

No suprises
I also could have seen Calvin or Delmas getting a patch as well.
I had a dream were the Lions let me sign a 1 day contract they let me practice with them running drills and catching passes from Matt…At the end of the day I was called into Mayhews office. I was told I had just been traded to seattle for a 5th round draft pick.
I think in the years to come, Delmas will certainly be a captain
I'm expecting 100% improvement from the Lions this season.
Calvin will not likely ever be a captain.
Receivers are subbed in and out too much.
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
Hold it, wasn't Hanson almost cut for the tackler who could kick?
Bravo to Jason for fighting off that challenge and get made a captain too.
Yes JC I know that is officially frowned upon by the Managers of this site.......
……….but damn, I could not resist.
I know people like to see the QB get the captain tag
and with his performance in the Browns game last year one could argue he has that coming but I would like him to “earn” it a little more before he has it. I want my QB to show he can be the leader of the team for a full season before he is granted the Captain tag.
Is this player voted I wonder?
Dom, KVB and Hanson all deserve the role.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
Respectfully
who is the best player on this team? Objectively speaking.
Thank you for your commentary.
By pure talent
Probably CJ. As for what they have done in the league, I think a strong case can be made for Hanson.

Pretty much what I execpted. I agree with the choices.
if the shoe fits...get another one just like it - George Carlin
I was a big fan of the...
KVB pick up, as a Lions fan who lives in Nashville and has a boss who has season tickets and who works at a body shop where I have painted Titans players and T-Racs toys I have seen him in action a numerous times. And his production may have dipped since his Pro Bowl year but, the leadership and the way he plays the game is top notch. And to add, his contacts are awesome too. I figured he would be made a Captain since the second he signed.

Would've like to seen Delmas
Be a captain… oh well. I understand why KVB is captain, but he’s only been with this team for a few months.
I haven't got the leader vibe from Best
Well, at least not yet. We shall see.

Happy with the choices
I would’ve liked Delmas as well but his time will come.

captains
I like all the picks. I think Raiola gets a bad rep for not really having good guards around him his whole career. O line is a demanding position both mentally and physically, and even though he’s never missed a game, which is impressive, he’s never made a Pro Bowl either, so maybe Sims can change that.
Go, Sparty, Go!! Deeeeeeeeetroit Baaaasketbaaaaaaaal!!
Sounds about right
I’d like to see Delmas get a “C”, but he probably doesn’t deserve it as much as these guys do.
