NFC Playoff Picture: If Season Ended Today, Lions Would Be In

Thanks to a comeback by the Falcons, Sunday wasn't a perfect day in terms of the Lions' playoff hopes being helped. It did go quite well, though. Not only did the Lions get a win, but the Bears choked away their game against the Broncos and lost. This moved Detroit up a spot in the standings and also improved its common games record with the Bears. Regardless of what happened in the Bears/Broncos game, the Lions were back in the playoff picture based on having a better division record, but with Chicago losing, Detroit is now sitting comfortably at the No. 6 spot in the NFC playoff picture.

Seeds

1. Green Bay Packers (13-0)

2. San Francisco 49ers (10-3)

3. New Orleans Saints (10-3)

4. New York Giants (7-6)

5. Atlanta Falcons (8-5)

6. Detroit Lions (8-5)

Matchups

First-round bye: Packers, 49ers

Saints vs. Lions

Giants vs. Falcons

If the Lions can get to 10 wins, they should make the playoffs. The other teams in the wild card hunt (Bears, Cowboys, Cardinals and Seahawks if they win tonight) have a lot of work to do considering they would have to win out just to get into a tie if the Lions win two of their final three games.

Although a lot of football is to be played and the standings could change quite a bit, it's exciting that with only three weeks left in the season, the Lions are in position to end their playoff drought.
