The introduction video to Monday Night Football for the Lions-Bears game featured Barry Sanders, and it is rightfully drawing rave reviews. The video focused on the city of Detroit and the Lions and how they are connected by a strong work ethic. Below is the summary of the intro from ESPN Front Row, which uploaded the video for your viewing pleasure.
The ESPN telecast kicked off with a powerful opening video voiced by Lions Hall of Famer Barry Sanders and featuring a local gospel choir, Selected of God. The video, voiced by Sanders, highlighted the resurgence of the Lions and the entire city of Detroit.
The line of the video in my mind is when Sanders said this: "Detroit doesn't pat itself on the back, it gets the job done."
With Hank Williams Jr.'s introduction being retired by ESPN, it will be interesting to see if intros like the one Sanders did will be used in the future. I personally like the Sanders one much more than the old intro, and the timing of the whole controversy with Williams Jr. worked out quite well for Lions fans. If not for him being let go, I doubt ESPN would have made the intro with Sanders, so in the end it all worked out.
