Trade Deadline Week. Lions Gonna Do Anything?

Hey Guys

This is kind of an open thread for the trade deadline week. Discuss if  you think any Lions might be moved or if we might bring someone in.

Personal Take:

Currently I don't see us having anyone we could trade except for Drew Stanton and Maurice Morris. Morris has been inconsistent so far and is 32. This is most likely his last year so why not try to move him. As for Stanton, he is as well entering his final year and unless Hill doesn't come back next year, he will not be back as he will want to get a #2 job somewhere. Both players good give us some late round picks.

As for bringing anyone in, I don't see the FO going after anyone. The only guy I could see us consider would be Asante Samuel of the Eagles. It's pretty clear that the Eagles are trying to ship him and we are one of the lead candidates according to many sources. I doubt we will pick him up as his price is pretty high and our secondary hasn't been bad.

Sure we have yet to face a Brees or a Rodgers but still not to shabby for the secondary.

Overall I see us not making any noise.

So what do you all think about this.

I don't see the Lions making any trades...

However, wouldn’t it be interesting to see Peyton Hillis in Honolulu Blue?

No, not at all

We drafted a guy with much more upside to fill that big back role already. The Madden cover guy would probably wanna get paid when he’s already seen his production drop off this year and he’s having a hard time staying healthy because of the beating he takes with his running style. Not interested.

by fiendishdr.wu on Oct 12, 2011 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Plus he's running behind a great OL

There is no back who we can just bring on and plug in and see greater success than what we have right now. Our line and scheme aren’t built for it at the moment.

Mayhews gonna stand pat

he likes to trade 6th or 7th rd picks, but with that tampering bullshit and the NFL ruling, those picks are untradeable at this moment

Seriously though,

I doubt we can find an interested party for Momo. As you said he’s old and could be his last year.

I could see it maybe if he was part of a larger deal, but to be honest I really don’t see any glaring holes that would be better off filled with somebody new as opposed to the players we have now that know the system.

I wasn't meaning trading him in a player for player deal rather I want to trade him for picks

There are multiple teams right now with struggling run games and Im sure that one of those will cough up a 7th if we want to dump MoMo. Lets face it this is his last year and Im fine with Harrison as the backup.

Im not saying we should trade him so we can open up a spot for an upgrade, rather to trade him for a draft pick that could turn out to help us more than he does.

Just Sayin’

Oh. I gotcha

Sorry I guess I kinda misread that.
Me not so smarty.
Picks are always good.

(Still don’t think anybody wants Momo, tho. And I don’t know if I’m alone on this, but I just don’t think Jerome Harrison is that good. Maybe he just needs more to time to acclimate himself to our offense…)

Personally

I think the trade deadline is too soon. Week 6?? Really? I would make it week 8 at least.

Anyway the only guy i would go after is Champ Bailey cuz we got scoorrched by Tony Romo. Bailey isnt exactly healthy though. Other than that a big fat NO

We could maybe get a second or third for Willie.

With Flu playing more DE. I know everyone’s got a hardon for Willie (pun intended) but there’s probably a couple other teams that might feel the same way and we might be able to sell high in a way we couldn’t with Turk.

Just spitballing.

Unless someone offers us something we can’t resist for Shaun Hill or Mo Morris. Otherwise I expect ZERO movement on our end. Unless Petes discount warehouse decides to move Okung for a 4th

I did mean Sammy

We can not afford to trade a QB. Staff has been playing well and popping up from his hits but….. Look at all of those teams out there with crappy backups. With Sammy as I said for a top notch RB like a Hillis then I would take the deal. He is only going to see the field for about 20 plays a game where a player of a Hillis calibur will see the field nearly every offensive down. Actually this would not be fair value for Cleveland but if they are mad at Hillis then maybe.

Trade one of the backup QBs or RBs, or Fluellen for a young OL or draft picks

The way Mayhew is drafting we’re going to end up cutting some of these guys next spring anyway.

Heres the trade

Stephen Peterman for a cheese sandwich. Hear me out obviously grilled or ham and cheese is asking way way to much. But I think Mayhew can work his magic and get the entire cheese sandwich for Peterman. Then we just plug in Gosder at RG and Fox at RT when he is healthy. PLUS Mayhew got part of a free lunch. He deserves that atleast. Now obviously the trade would be announced before it was complete because Peterman always jumps before anything is official. I think this would be fair for both sides and upgrade out O line.

I say we get Lance Briggs.

I would give up a 3rd, and 4th or 5th for him, and we could stick it to the bears. He wants a trade, we need all the LBs we can get, he wouldn’t have to move very far. It’s a match made in heaven.

i will not trade a 3rd and a 4th/5th for any player with that much wear. especially when, imo: we don’t have a necessity for him.

But you'd take Champ Bailey, or Charles Woodson if they wanted out of their teams?

Just because he’s older doesn’t mean anything, its not like he’s the one getting hit. I could see not wanting a 31 year old RB or WR, but one of the (at one time) best LBs in the league? I still think he’s in the top 10 right now.

I would have to disagree with you there pappy

Don’t get me wrong I like Briggs. I just think our lb’s have been great this year. With Carpenter finally playing like the guy most thought he would be coming out of college, this group is far and away our most improved from last year. Also I give a shout out to Levy for his play so far this year. It’s about time. The most underated move in the offseason to me was Stephen Tulloch to the Lions. That’s not the homer in me talking there either. I could not believe that teams were not knocking down this guy’s front 4. I really hope they give Lock Tulloch up for the next 5. He may be short but that dude will light you up. Can’t say enough about Durant either. Mayhew strikes again. Tulloch,Durant, and Carpenter in one off season. What’s even more crazy to me is that imo we had the worst play in all of football from our lb’s. I read a few weeks ago where Gunther was saying that Ashlee Palmer continues to grow and get better. (Loving that too, I’ve met Ashlee on more than one occasion here at Ole Miss, and you could not find a better person)

All that said I think we could use pro bowl talent at the corner position more right now than at the lb spot. I also think we could use arguably the best power runner in the league right now who I believe also made a pro bowl last year over another lb. JMHO

I agree that we need a corner

But Briggs would be a very nice addition, and you need more than 3 capable LBs. I’m not sold on Carpenter, even though he has been playing good. I liked the Durant signing, but I’d rather have the sure bet in Briggs.

The trade I would like to see

Detroit trades a 3rd round for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The Eagles got him for Kolb and a 2nd round so basically they get a 2nd and a 3rd for Kolb. Not bad for the talent level he is displaying in Arizona.

We get a big time corner opposite Houston before we have to play GB, NO and SD. DRC has admitted he does not play the slot very well and would be happy to go back outside. We get to strengthen one of our weaker areas and use our future drafts on building our O-line.

by ncbur10 on Oct 13, 2011 9:20 AM EDT reply actions

He's not that good, in my opinion.

Now if he gets an INT or fumble, he’s dangerous, but he can’t cover anyone good.

I sat long and hard and thought about it and the Lions personnel wise just dont have enough depth to do much. This year…. Next year I could see them trading Williams if Fairley works out as Sammie is CWill in younger version and cheaper …letting go of Hill QB as that would free up some cap room.

You cant do either QB’s right now … maybe if we had tried a preseason trade and able to have kept Robinson but unfortunately there’s that big ? mark on how healthy this line can keep Stafford let alone Stafford keep himself.

The Position that does concern me more than the CB or even the O-Line and RB positions even is actually the S position. Delmas and Speivey are Like the only true depth and though Wendlings played well he is not a long term solution. And beyond him the depth suffers more than what this team would need to keep in the hunt should either of the starting S go down for a while.

which brings us to the next part which is what is trade worthy ? obviously the D-Line has the most depth but do we really want to mess w/ the chemistry + though there’s depth there’s not at same time its almost perfectly balanced out? then we have draft picks .. which unless they saw a young enough player w/ potential and upside Mayhew and Schwartz are building through the draft so less likely to do so anyways.
