In Mayhew We Trust
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7093244/oakland-raiders-agree-trade-aaron-curry-seattle-seahawks
Aaron Curry just got traded by the Seahawks to the Raiders. Remember when our fans were clamoring for Curry, even chanting "Don't draft Stafford"? No Detroit fan would be saying that now. Same goes for Brandon Pettigrew. I remember when Michael Oher, "Blind Side" star and huge presence at LT at Ole Miss and USC MLB Rey Maualuga were still available, knowing that at the time, both positions were places where we could have used an upgrade, only to find us taking Grew with the pick we got in the Dallas trade (another great Mayhew move). That 2009 draft changed everything for us. It's great that we FINALLY have someone in there who knows what he is doing and has built (and is still building) a great franchise for years to come. Cheers to you, Mr. Mayhew.

Mike Mayock said before the draft...
“Aaron Curry is the safest pick in the draft.”
Too bad they can’t measure heart at the combine.

It's not a heart issue.
Curry is another Ernie Sims. Zero football instincts, always way out of position.

Yea Mayock the same guy who said that Gerald Mccoy was better than Suh coming out...
and this guy gets paid for this??? I know that others will always have different opinions but that is just plain stupid. This guy was the ONLY one in America preaching that garbage. I really think he was saying it just so if by some miniscule chance that mccoy ended up having the better career he could come back and say " I was the only one in the world that knew Mccoy was the better player" Experts. Yea.

LMAO
for the millionth and final time he said…He perfered Gerald McCoy but both were great players, It was a matter of personal prefrence and what you wanted from the position.

pressure
too much was placed on him, being called a #1 in the whole draft. If he is put in a good defense he will produce, wish we could of got him on the cheap.
The Vikings throw a Christian to the Lions, twice a season!
Mayhew's snub speaks volumns.
After all, Rob Sims, Nate Burleson and Lawrence Jackson have worked out pretty well. Curry must be a bust for Mayhew not to come calling.
It will be interesting to see how a change of scenery in Oakland works out for Curry.
Agreed on all points...
Only issue I might raise is the Oher reference. To be honest, he’s playing pretty well at a position that is harder to fill than TE. Not saying I’d rather have him then Pettigrew, but if Mayhew had drafted him I’m not sure we’d be sitting here today saying “Why didn’t we take Pettigrew in the draft”. Win-Win on both players IMO.
Thats why their on TV
and not being hired by teams to do their scouting. Honestly guys; those analysts are about as knowledgable as we are. They watch a couple highlights on somebody and were sold. Thats why the Mockdrafts on ESPN are always so far off of what it will be… only the scouts, GM’s and coaches know who their team wants. Not Mel “f’ing” Kiper."
I agree with GhostofBarry on Pettigrew vs. Oher; we really couldn’t have gone wrong with either player.
I think like LoJack Curry was likley failed by the coaching staff
Hope this second chance works out for him. I never once questioned Stafford being the 1st overall pick though. Curry was overrated BUT I think somewere there is still a good starting LB to be had there.

Agree with Barry's ghost...
But I have spent my entire life in the heart of Ole Miss country. Oher may not be a great offensive lineman but he is still pretty damn good. More of the Ravens struggle with pass protection should be atributed to Flacco’s inablility at times to know when the throw the ball away or the lack of talent at the WR and TE position, rather than Oher and co. (Heap is not half the player he used to be). I love Grew but frankly Brandon has not lived up to the hype just yet. I’m not saying he has not been any good for us because he has. But I think we all expected more from him than we have received so far. To be fair he did miss a fair amount of time after being injured against the Packers on Thanksgiving. Also, he has not that much time to bulid rapport with Stafford. Schef has something to do with it as well. I am happy with us having Grew but by no means would I be upset if we had went with Oher right now. That said, Brandon has the potential to be a probowl caliber player for the next decade or so. It’s scary just how many young Lions that can be said about right now. Right now the Lions have far and away the best young talent in all of football. Hands down. Stafford, Johnson, Suh , W. Young, Avril, Tulloch, Delmas, Grew, Best, T.Young, Fairley(who could end up being second only to Suh in all of football. COULD be) It’s amazing

I like Brandon
but he would have to move to the AFC to be Pro Bowl. Finley, Graham, Witten. Those guys get the ball more than Grew.
