Trade Proposal: Burleson for Brodney Pool?
It's not my proposal. Just saw this article over on NFL.com suggesting it.
Secondary issue in Detroit
The Lions have a weakness at safety, and it needs to be addressed if they're going to make a deep run in the playoffs.
Detroit finds a trading partner in the Jets. New York carries 10 defensive backs on its roster and can afford to deal safety Brodney Pool. In return, the Jets get Nate Burleson, who would become the third receiver with Mason now in Houston.
Titus Young has shown he's ready for more action and would replace Burleson. Pool gives the Lions a solid safety to go alongside Louis Delmas.
Now I don't disagree that they could use some help in the secondary. However, even with as good as Young has played I'm not convinced he should be counted on to replace Nate at this point. Plus it then begs the question of who gets Young's spot if you make the move?

What message would be sent to the team?
Play hard, be a leader… cause you might not be here tomorrow?
Even on paper the Jets would have to give up, at the least, an additional draft pick (5 or 6th) to even out this deal….
But in the end… Burleson is THE guy pumping up the offense pregame huddles… would a safety be worth the ripple affect this trade would cause?

No thanks.
I know Burleson isn’t putting up monster numbers, but he’s not exactly dropping passes either. There’s simply too many weapons on this team to make all our WR’s look great on paper.
I admit, the Eric Coleman thing is troubling, but I think Burleson’s leadership and attitude are more valuable than some might think.
Also, if CJ misses a game or two, Burleson has proven he can step up.
I like Nate.

Nate is the flava flav to our public enemy.Even when he isnt putting out the biggest numbers hes hyping up our team and keeping everyone grounded.
DO Believe the hype!
I suppose Stafford would be “Professor Staff”

Of all the people we could trade for
Why in the world would we want BRODNEY POOL? We have two solid starters and corners can always shift over if we need help that bad…

I have never been that impressed with Brodney Pool. Nate is a leader on out offense and IMO should retire a Lion at this point. The very idea makes me sick to my gullet

That was my immediate reaction.
I yelled Brodney Pool. With a lot of question marks in my intonation.

That is such a terrible trade on every level.
I am proud of the pride that the vote at this point is 100% against.
Reasons given above are pretty solid to me, I won’t waste my time repeating them.
"Filling a need doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting a good player," said Schwartz. "It doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re getting a player that best fits; it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re getting a player that’s better than what you have already."
This is the same article that has...
Seattle trading Doug Baldwin AND a potential 1st for Carson Palmer? And Denver trading Kyle Orton AND Brandon Lloyd for Jimmy Clausen? Yikes. “Senior analyst” Gil Brandt has lost his mind.
That entire article is really bad.
Agreed.

Gil Brandt has been throwing crap like that out there for the last few years.
I would say this was the worst, but some of his others were just as bad.

49er's game Nate will be the key to victory
He will have 100+ yards and 2 TD’s this is his week to shine as Linehan develops this weeks attacking scheme around him.
I thought being lazy was a bad thing, So I gave up thinking.
One of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard
Pride of Detroit, for Lions fans | SB Nation Detroit, for Detroit-area sports fans
I have no idea who Brodney Pool is
My grandfather was a Packers fan, my father is a Vikings fan, I am a Lions fan, and there is no way in hell I am raising a Bears fan.
Oh, and I hate the Philadelphia Eagles (but like the Phillies)
Under No Circumstances
First of all, what good reason is there to ditch Burleson? Just because he isnt putting up stats means nothing- its not like he’s Bryant Johnson dropping passes left and right- I only saw 2 times he was targeted during the Bears game and 1 was overthrown, one was picked. One of these days, they’re going to start calling his number again and he’s going to show up and produce- you don’t cut a perfectly good receiver just because he isnt putting p stats when the reason he isnt putting up stats is that you’re not throwing to him in the first place.
Secondly, Brodney Pool? Who’s suggesting he’s that much better than Del or Spievey,? This goes against all Mayhewian logic of taking young players with upside and developing them rather than trading for marginal-at-best veterans (which was alright when we had gaping holes to fill but is a terrible idea now).
I see this more as a pipe dream idea by some bored writer behind a lonely desk somewhere than a realistic scenario. Pass.

Lol what?
The Lions finally have a complete offense, why the hell would the ruin it? They’re not weak at safety, they are young. NFL.com is stupid.

Double Triple No
Nate may not have the numbers now, but his leadership is unquestionable. He is an irreplaceable cog in our offense and on our team.
Hopefully Spievey gets healthy soon and can recover from grieving about his cousin who was killed in Romania in a bar fight 3 days before MNF. I’d also like to us start getting Ricardo ready.

WoW...
Just wow. Nate as mentioned is a leader of the team. He brings Much needed swag to this team. He plays every play, many of you know, he is a great blocker downfield. He is a pain to go down, a very good route runner, and great on third down. He is a big reason Megatron isn’t always triple covered. You know he’s a mentor to the other guys, and I’m sure Titus will be better because of Nates help. And someone wants to trade him because our backup safety is out for the yr, and Spivey is a bit injured. No thanks, I’ll pass.
Plus one of the reasons the Jets got rid of Mason was because their rookie has been impressive enough to be the #3. I don’t buy that’s the main reason he was traded, but still think it helped.
Talking about trades.......What about a 7th(if we have it) I believe we do, for Jarrad Page who just benched in Philly?
i would do that
Jarrad aint that bad specially for a 7th

I would also. He's Gun's boy from KC, and the one we supposedly tampered with.
I don’t think we have a 6th due the KC bullshit, and I don’t see him as being worth a 5th the way they value these players.
yeah i wouldnt give a 5th
specially with Mayhew at the helm. a 5th can be a gold mine with him drafting

I think were the only ones that noticed his benching....lol
Last season Page was the hot commodity around here.
That just is not the way to handle the safety issues.
I believe the Lions are very happy with Delmas and Spievey as the starters. I really don’t see Pool beating either of them for a starting spot next year either. So what you are saying is that you want to give up a guy who is a vocal leader in the locker room and on the sideline because you want to fill a temporary hole?
Sorry, but that is just not how you back fill for an injury. You don’t trade somebody that has current and future value to your team for somebody that only has a limited temporary value, unless you are convinced that is the final piece to win a Super Bowl. I really don’t think Pool is the final piece to win anything. Now if you can get us Ed Reed for Nate Burleson, that might make some sense.
I never met him, but he was family to me... R.I.P. Tom Kowalski We will all miss you.
Please No Philly D castoffs.....
they look terrible by the 4th quarter………..in fact they cant play 4 quarters….
Lions footballl is 4 quarters, if any player under consideration isnt on film showing 4 qrtr ability…..pass!
Burleson should not be on any trade block period…..
Grow with us, at QuantumCrops.com
We actually need philly cast offs
The play the 1st half .. we don’t .. they fold up in the 2nd half .. we dominate .. so it might work out :))) … Have Philly cast offs in 1st half and our original players in the 2nd half ..
GB and NE will be running for mercy …
(It’s a funny unrealistic joke)
Not a fucking chance.
A) WE DO NOT NEED A SAFETY…Spievey and Delmas are both starters for the next 5-10 years. We may need depth, but not starters.
B) If we did need a safety, I would be fucking irate if we landed Brodney Pool. I hate him. He is a nobody to me.
C) Why the fuck would we trade Burleson? Our number 2 WR? Seriously? Go fuck yourself whoever at NFL.com proposed this dumb trade.

To put it simply ...
We are no longer idiots who would weaken a position of strength to acquire a band-aid at another position ..
These writers look at the NFL as a whole (macro) and give their crap opinion about individual teams when the don’t know the details (micro) …
