Lions Notes: Fans Rewarded With Game Ball From Jim Schwartz
- Jim Schwartz gave out one of the game balls from Monday night to Lions fans for how loud they were. According to Matthew Stafford, Schwartz is going to have the ball put on display in Ford Field.
- The nine false start penalties the Bears had on Monday tied for the second most committed by a team in one game since 1993, when penalty research began. (Via Dave Birkett)
- Ndamukong Suh was voted by his fellow players as the third meanest player in football. Amazingly, Jason Hanson picked up one vote.
- Matthew Stafford's 19 touchdown passes in his last seven games tied him for a franchise record with Bobby Layne.
- Monday Night Football was the most-watched regular season Lions game ever in the Detroit market. Now that's impressive.
- Tony Scheffler and Nate Burleson were on the Broncos and Vikings, respectively, when they started 5-0 but failed to make the playoffs. Only four teams since 1990 have started 5-0 but failed to make the playoffs, and considering half of those teams had a current Lion on it, you can bet the team is well aware that a 5-0 start doesn't mean squat unless you keep playing well.
- Burleson and Eric Wright were both fined ($5,000 for Burleson and an undisclosed amount for Wright) for wearing socks on Monday night that didn't show any white. Really, NFL?
- 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh was with the Lions during training camp in 2001. He was beat out by Charlie Batch, Mike McMahon and Ty Detmer.
- Jim Schwartz tweeted this earlier in the week: "We’ve had Kid Rock, Eminem, Hugh Jackman, Uncle Kracker, Bob Seger, and Rev Run at games last couple years. We need to get Detroit native son Jack White in the fold. Gotta reach out through my Nashville connections." The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" was played at Ford Field during Monday's game, and Schwartz said he noticed it. Usually he doesn't notice the music that's being played, but "Seven Nation Army" grabbed his attention.
- Ndamukong Suh is a fan of short-yardage situations.
- 49ers wide receiver Josh Morgan is out for the season because of an ankle injury that he suffered when San Francisco was up 41-3 on Sunday.
- Current Bears and former Lions wide receiver Roy Williams said that he had never heard Ford Field be as loud as it was on Monday night.
- Bears defensive end Julius Peppers reportedly sprained his MCL on Monday.
- On the one hand, the short week made preparation more difficult for the 49ers game, but it also helped the players move on from the win over the Bears much quicker.
- The announcers for Sunday's Lions-49ers game are going to be Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston and Tony Siragusa.
- If there were an award for being the best-dressed team in football, I think the Lions would win it.
- Barry Sanders posted a photo gallery from Monday night.
- The Seahawks traded linebacker Aaron Curry to the Raiders for a seventh-round pick in 2012 and a conditional mid-round pick in 2013.

I think that one vote was from Hester

If it was not Hester, it could have been Dave Rayner :P

I love Schwartz's shoutout to Jack White
Jack is really proud of his roots in Michigan and although I’m not sure how big of a sports follower he is, I wouldn’t doubt that he’s a Lions fan.
lol at this
Burleson and Eric Wright were each fined ($5,000 for Burleson and an undisclosed amount for Wright) for wearing socks on Monday night that didn’t show any white. Really, NFL?
Yeah, that's pretty bad, but
I think they’re just trying to keep the teams looking like professionals and not like clowns.
Some of the players have some spectacularly bad taste.
The worst rule is that the coaches have to wear those ugly team outfits. What’s wrong with having coaches in suits or business casual like Tom Landry and Vince Lombardi?
No slogans. Just win!!!
When did this become a rule?
Jack Del Rio use to always wear suits, but I’ve noticed him not wearing them the last few seasons.
President of the Tony Scheffler Fan Club
This has been a rule forever
The NFL is very strict about uniformity for players. I remember when we went to the Silverdome for HS in 2000, there were signs in the locker room from the NFL about certain aspects of the uniform, like the socks must all be the same and the jersey has to be tucked in, etc.
But again... Jack Del Rio use to wear a suit for almost every game...
President of the Tony Scheffler Fan Club
You can wear a suit all day long jack

But if you button both of your buttons, I will not respect your style

About What I Expected
Del Rio and I attended USC at the same time. The suit and rep tie are fine, surprised he didn’t go ultra-WASP with the button down Ralph Lauren Poo shirt. And don’t forget the Balboa Bay Club pin on the lapel.
This is DBB, and this is what we do.

Actually
You’re supposed to button the top two buttons on a 3-button jacket.
Men’s wear 101.
Also
On a 3 button jacket the top button is optional, the middle one is the only button that is mandatory

To clear up the confusion..
Believe i or not those suits were made by Reebok just for the couple of coaches that wore them. The rule for coaches is that they have to wear the Reebok NFL Apparel. This would also explain why Belichick can get away with wearing what he wears, it’s all Reebok apparel.
Matthew Stafford’s 19 touchdown passes in his last seven games tie him for a franchise record with Bobby Layne.
It seems those 2 are tied in multiple ways. Heres hoping Staff will lead us to a few titles like Layne did.

You do realize that's the throwing motion of like 80% of NFL QBs right?

If he gets seven in his next two games.
He’ll hold the record. Which isn’t far fetched, considering he got 7 in his first two weeks this year and neither SF nor ATL have dominant pass defenses.

i think its possible definatly
I see Stafford breaking all the Lions QB records anyways, it cant be that hard to do. He only has to compete with Layne
or maybe scott mitchell…or joey….andre ware? ok I’m done but ya get the point
QB records that he can break that don't include Bobby Layne...
Most wins in a season – 11, by Milt Plum.
Completion percentage (season) – 63.3%, Jon Kitna
Passing yards (season) – 4338, Scott Mitchell
Touchdowns (season) – 32, Scott Mitchell
Lowest Interception % (season) – 2.1%, Scott Mitchell
Yards per attempt (season) – 8.6, Greg Landry
Passer rating (season) – 101.7, Dave Krieg
Game Winning Drives (season) – 5, Charlie Batch.
Completion Percentage (Lions career of 16+ games starting) – 62.3%, Jon Kitna 06-08
Passer Rating (Lions career) – 79.6, Jon Kitna 06-08
Game Winning Drives (career) – 9, Gary Danielson 77-84
Looking at these stats makes me really sad for our QB history. Through 18 games Matthew Stafford is already 13th in all-time yardage and touchdowns.

ya our best qb's in last 20 years scott mitchell and jon kitna
I hope matt gets every possible qb record on lions organization and I believe he might be able to get some in nfl, if he can keep up with aaron rodgers
I still dont see why we drafted Calvin Johnson.....who is this guy on our depth chart
Ya I find it funny I would read all the analysts from all over the nfl on there mock drafts and it was half and half with Curry and Stafford, they prolly thought that schwartz being a defensive guy would take him I guess
Info on Curry
I’m not remembering almost taking Curry, who is he again, seriously. can someone give me the skinny on this?
by SanDiegoMick on Oct 13, 2011 11:22 PM EDT up reply actions
Curry had a pretty good career at Wake Forest, many anylists considered him a sure thing. At the time Curry and Stafford were trading places on mock drafts for the number one pick any time a new mock would come out.
Thanks Solo
That would have been a huge mistake not taking Staff
by SanDiegoMick on Oct 13, 2011 11:45 PM EDT up reply actions
Actually, he wasn't known for his pass rushing skills.
He only had 9 sacks in his entire 4-year college career.

Isn't it sad that not to many years ago
Roy WIlliams was beast the best player the Lions had…Then Calvin came to town LOL

anybody else find it ironic
that this year Julius Peppers is the player that leaves the game injured?
I dont wish ill will on anyone.
But part of me was glad when he left the game.

I like how jason hanson got a vote
he was the best kick coverage player we had for the longest time, that guy hits like a freight train if he gets a good angle. I believe Chris Speilman taught him how to tackle properly after giving up a TD return and losing the ball carrier in the process since then if Hanson has a shot he rarely misses
by Brad Wesley James Hines on Oct 13, 2011 10:46 PM EDT reply actions
Hanson dont get enough credit for what he does on kickoffs
I dont think any kicker in history has saved more TD’s from happening than jason hanson im serious about this. Its amazing what he is still doing at his age
He’s a HOF in my book for dam sure
Agree
now Talk to Peter King About that

I know this has nothing to do with this thread but
Brandon Lloyd is being shopped. What do you guys think about us maybe trying to get him?
skip bayless tried to say he was lisses catches on purpose
because he is real good friends with orton…
could be another mutiny thing going on like they did to mason in NY
my thoughts would be no, I think they have way to much faith in Nate as a teacher, and there 2nd round pick titus. the next wr would be stovall and he plays ST pretty good
Gotta go with a no on that one.
A career under-achiever who’s nearing 31 years old, imo.

Ya i agree
and since when do we need another reciever i think CJ, Titus, Burleson is good enough we have Pettigrew and Scheftler at TE so we don’t really need any. Some O Lineman would be nice though .

Hanson is definitely a HOF and a game ball for me!
better be a first ballot one too, he has been clutch for so long. Brad I remember years back reading that also, what you said about C. Spielman teaching him to tackle.
And WHOOO HOOO a game ball from the coach for me! (since I was part of the madhouse crowd) I gratefully accept this ball and hope to contribute to many more victories in the future. Thank you worth losing my voice for 3 days for it, just coming back now.
BOOM!~another Motown Touchdown-courtesy of Matthew Stafford
I just want to personaly thank you for that game, you guys were great
I was at home yelling at TV saying GET LOUDER CROWD lol but I knew you guys were already loud as hell
agreed.
especially after hearing the replays.
Thanks but don't think You would have said
get louder if you were at the game, it was indescribable how loud it was there. I have been to a lot of venues around the world(including the Newcastle Knights stadium, the International Sports Centre in a shout out to Hyper,..Go Knights!) and been in some loud places but it was as loud of crowd noise as I’ve ever heard. At times vibrated right through you. My ears were still ringing long after the game. It was fantastic and I don’t think the tv could ever have conveyed the way it Roared. It really was intense

That crowd was intense.
Even watching it on tv you could just feel the energy at Ford Field. I hope every crowd can do that to opposing offenses.

The title picture reminds me what type of athlete CJ is
I don’t know if anyone noticed but CJ jumped up over the bar into the crowd without even trying
When Grew tried he could barely get to grab the top bar and pull himself up.
Too funny
