Around SBN: Yankees Deny Rumors That Team Is For Sale

PROUD to be a Lions Fan

We lost for the first time in 10 games to a VERY talented 49ers team that is also on the up and coming.  We are 5-1.  EXCEPTIONAL record for a team that only two years ago was licking its nearly fatal wounds from an 0-16 season.  We face ATL at home and head to DEN before the bye week....both winnable games with the talent on this team.  Do you think Schwartz and company are not going to be ready as hell for the Falcons?

I'm proud of this team.  Very, very proud.   Honestly, the only thing I'm not proud of are the bandwagon fans that are so emotionally unstable with every up and down that they throw the team and its players under the bus when something even slightly doesn't go our way.  It's the HALLMARK of a sect of fans that doesn't understand longevity, endurance, and perseverance in football.   Let me be clear.....90% of the fans on here are not that way.  But that leaves about 10% that just cannot handle the ups and downs that will inevitably come from week to week with an extremely talented young team.

Look at the Bucs.  They have suffered losses AT HOME to us and they got SMOKED by the 49ers last week 48-3.  Yet, they turn around and recover to defeat New Orleans this week, and not by random chance.  The Lions are built just like that.  They have the camaraderie and the smarts to bounce back from this and beat Atlanta AND Denver this week.   Even if they don't, I'll still be here cheering them on.

YES......this team has a lot of things to fix.   EVERY team does.  YES.....Stafford could've played better today  He's going to have games like that from time to time.  YES.....the team is still learning.

I want to just say that I am proud to be a Lions fan.  I'm proud of Schwartz not taking any shit after the game, regardless of whether he could've handled it better or not.   I'm proud of our defense and offense, doing everything they can in the moment to survive.

Although it was tough, I was proud to be a Lions fan when they weren't good.   And that's what makes this season so much fun, win or lose.  I know each game is going to be competitive, and winnable.  I know Stafford is SOLID at QB.   One of the best in the league.  I know we have THE BEST wide receiver in the league.   And talent around these guys that surpasses anything we've seen in Detroit in years.

We lost today to a good 49ers team.  By 6 points.  The Bucs lost to them by 45 just last week.  We are for real.

Hang your hat on this:

  • The Lions can go 5-5 the rest of the way and go 10-6.  I think they'll do better than that.

I went into this game thinking it was very, very possible we could lose it.   We had an emotional win over the Bears Monday night, with a smaller rest window.  We're going to be fine, my friends.  5-1 is everything to celebrate.   This team is growing and maturing QUICKLY together.

One MAJOR thing that I want to see happen.   Nick Fairley needs to start making an impact soon.

Yeah, it's funny,

I recall a post someone made asking everyone to predict wins/losses for Detroit this year. The general consensus seemed to be 10 – 6. Hopefully, it’ll be more like 12 – 4 or 11 – 5.

Did you guys see the size of that chicken?

by studmo on Oct 16, 2011 11:57 PM EDT reply actions

I'm sticking with 10-6

I think that’s solid and I believe with how the rest of the NFC is performing(other than GB) we can make the playoffs with that. We’ve beaten Dal, TB Chi and hopefully ATL next week so we’ll hold a lot of tie breakers for the wild card.

I was scared of a letdown today too

being a young team coming down off that major MNF high, I was scared of a letdown today too….but totally agree that we still have the makings of a very memorable season ahead of us. If you told me at the beginning of the year that we’d be sitting at 5 – 1 at this point, I would have taken it in a heartbeat. I was really disappointed though in the final two drives w/ 2 minutes and 1 minute to go late in the 4th quarter, I don’t understand the lack of urgency. maybe it will be a good learning opportunity.

I’ll be at the game next week screaming my lungs out, trying to contribute to some false starts for the Falcons. I’ve already got my game face on, next week can’t get here soon enough. Let’s smoke the Falcons and get the taste of this one out of our mouths

by Angry Johnny on Oct 17, 2011 12:21 AM EDT reply actions

On the Fairley note

He tripped Alex Smith up and was incredibly close to having his first career sack. Levy ended up making the tackle, and had Fairley not tripped Smith up, I don’t know if Levy would have been able to get there to stop Smith from running for the first down.

Don’t forget, Suh didn’t have his first sack until the first week of the NFL season, after four preseason games, Fairley pretty much just had his second preseason game, WITHOUT a real training camp. I’m not worried about Fairley, his time will be next year, right now let’s worry about the offense. That defensive line can take care of themselves.

My comment on Fairley was not to say....

….that he was not playing well. I just want to see him produce more because I’m excited to have him back. That’s all.

Well said Twon.

While I am not happy with the loss [come on really who can be?] It was a tough, hard fought game that came down to a fourth and goal on our six yard line. If we had stopped them, chances are we win that game.

Our problems in this game are not new, and have been showing themselves throughout the season. I am sure the coaches are going to work on getting them fixed.

I second IOM, Fairley is a rookie that I really don’t expect to make a major impact on this defence unless there are some injuries ahead of him. He is a rotational DT who looks like he is doing well in the limited snaps he gets. The guy on the D Line who needs to step it up is Suh. He has had a lot of praise heaped on him without delivering a lot of results to date. As our most talented player, I would like to see him make more of an impact than he currently is.

My 2011 Lions season prediction: 12 wins and 4 losses. I made this prediction the week after the New England preseason game. It's looking a little pessimistic right now.

Yeah... a very rational take on things... through and through

Thanks for reminding us to keep our spirits where they need to be; to keep our trust; and know that our inconsistancies are going to be getting further attention. We all know we haven’t played our best football yet, with the personell we have. Sunday we played a decent team, who took advantage of a handful of plays we didn’t execute on; credit them for that.

SF is proving to be a worthy playoff caliber team, but I still think we are the better team; I’d love to meet them again this season.
Now we prepare to get back on track, and get a “W” over Atlanta. Without doubt, all will be ready… the staff, the players, and the fans. Ford Field is going to be rocking, as if it were MNF all over again.

Just shit out a pompom and be quiet would ya CLF?

It was just a lovely loss that we should all be happy with.

Look, no one can complain about a 5 and 1 record, I’m estatic, but to shit away a win at home that was within our grasp was not the way to loose the first one.

by delusional on Oct 17, 2011 1:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree, del.

I don’t agree with being “happy” about a loss. Especially at home, to a team that we may face again.

We need every win we can get to have a chance at winning this division, because I don’t see the Packers losing too many this season. Unless it is to us.

My 2011 Lions season prediction: 12 wins and 4 losses. I made this prediction the week after the New England preseason game. It's looking a little pessimistic right now.

Who the hell is happy??

Jesus. If you could, go back and read my article again. There’s a difference between being optimistic about what happened and noticing that fixes need to be had and being happy with a loss. It’s called rationality.

I just finished saying discussion of the loss is fine. It’s overreactions by people who think they are worthy of the GM position that are tiring. Discuss the loss all you want; no one ever spoke against that in the first place.

I'll sign that petition!

It’s not delusional to be a little unhappy over a loss that could have easily been prevented with better execution, on any one of a half a dozen plays.

I’m more than happy with our 5-1 start, and would be even happier if we were 6-0, but we’re not. The loss may turn out to be a blessing in disguise, as we haven’t been playing our best yet. I got a hunch that we’ll get closer to how good this team could be against the Falcons this Sunday.

was this a bad loss? Did we get our asses handed to us by a inferior (on paper) team?

or did we lose to a good team after a short week? Remember this is a YOUNG team, maybe youngest?
loses are going to happen, I would rather lose a game here and there and win Superbowl than go 16-0 and lose the Superbowl.

Anyone got the stats on our teams age? I know Hansens old and Backus, Riola, KVB and maybe CWll but who else is pushing or above 30?

49er fan saying

You guys better be proud of yourselves. Detroit is one heck of a team. We are jumping around at ninersnation because we won a game against a very good team. The players are very good, the coaching staff is excellent, the FO knows how to build a team, and the fans…
You Detroit fans have been dragged in the mud for a long time. To stay this hyped about your team after all of that is amazing. Don’t you guys dare hang your heads. I can’t wait to see you in the playoffs.

Lions fan saying

The same goes for you guys. Lions fans are taking solace in the fact that our first loss came to a very good 49ers team. And it was a close, close game. Very hard fought. It was a hell of a win for SF in Detroit and will make for an excellent game in the playoffs should it come to that.

That's what puts my mind to ease,

We haven’t played to our potential yet, we are playing well in spurts. Last game the spurts were a bit too far apart against a good team that beat us. The future is good.

Detroit PD better call up the reserves
After the double spankings by the Rangers and the 49ers it could get a little hot and smoky in Motown tonite.
There aren’t enough people left in Detroit to riot

That's why I appreciate POD.

We self-moderate a lot to an extent, because it’s all we have (no offense to Sean, who does a great job when people step way out of line.) So when someone’s spouting stuff that’s just not cool (implicating riots?) a lot of us are quick to call out people for being unreasonable or douchey.

Considering there's a couple of us who lived through the Detroit riots here...

We’ve jumped over multiple people for the whole Frisco-homosexuality schtick, it’s not as if we’re being hypocritical here. Opposing teams or office is one thing, but comments in that vein are about as classy as Anthony Davis talking about Cliff Avril’s kids on twitters. It hits too close to home and it’s scummy.

but come on man the refs were horrible. Why can’t the NFL buy good officials? They make over a 100,000 dollars a year and make the shit calls they do all the time. I’m not talking about against the Lions (who have dealt with more shit calls than anyone it seems like) it’s about the officiating of the entire league. I’m sick of it. I get it’s a fast game. It just makes me mad that I spend all day in a operating room helping save peoples lives to bring home 48,000 dollars a year (including hours and hours and hours of overtime) it’s bullshit. To make that kind of money and be no better than what they are. I don’t care what you say or anyone else. The refs in the National Football League suck! Some refs do make six figures.

And considering they do work part time and only for a portion of the year, that’s pretty staggering. They don’t compare to the salary of officials in the other three leagues, but the other three league’s officials are full-time and put in exponentially more hours.
