Future Rivals

The Future is a funny thing, if you think about it, it is your imagination.  It is what your mind imagines will happen next.  The Past is just your memory of what just happened.  The Present is ever elusive and is just the converter, converting our imagination into memory.  This conversion created some crazy memories after the Lions game Sunday.  I have a memory of a familiar coach, beloved son of University Michigan, returning to take on the Detroit Lions.  A highly publicized game,  given the records of the teams in the showdown.

The Detroit Lions, one of two undefeated teams in the NFL, are coming off a hot win on Monday. The other team , the San Francisco 49ers, with only one loss to a team in overtime, (Dallas Cowboys) a team that the Lions had to overcome a large deficit to beat a few weeks earlier.  In anticipation, the Past and your memory allowed your imagination to create a great game.  And you were right, it was a nail biter.  I would have preferred to remember a win, but the additional memory created may have allowed me to envision a better future.

A memory of our favorite visiting coach with a win, acting like a complete EEYORE, offending our favorite home coach with a shove away handshake, therefor offending us as well.  There was a fire started in my memory burning away most of the admiration for the visiting coach.  As the ashes blow away,  it reveals an entitled EEYORE.  Then we saw our home coach react to protect our home pride and herd with intentions of finding a home for his trademark fist pump.  We were shocked and then proud.  These memories create a future in my mind that these will be two competeive teams in the Future.  One team lead by the villain and one lead by the hero (depending on which side you are on).  I imagine a rematch in Januaruy and many January's to come.

They in my imagination, are Future Rivals.
