Jahvid Best Didn't Experience Concussion-Like Symptoms Until After 49ers Game

The reason the news about Jahvid Best's latest concussion didn't come until early Monday morning is because he didn't actually experience any symptoms until after the 49ers game, according to Jim Schwartz. During his press conference today, Schwartz shared that information and also made it clear that Best was available in the fourth quarter. He wasn't used because the Lions opted to go with Maurice Morris.

Schwartz said the Lions "never lost" Best's availability during the game, just a gameplan decision to go with Morris for the final 3 series.

Considering Best is a bigger weapon in the passing game than Morris, it seems odd to me that the Lions would go with Morris in the final couple drives. That's why everybody figured Best was out with a concussion, but based on Schwartz's comments, it seems that Best was available and the concussion wasn't discovered until after the game.

Is there something wrong with going with Morris?

He averaged 4 YPC.

Morris in the slot?

He did have 1 rec for 8 yards...

Which was his only target, so it’s not like he can’t catch a ball and run.

It’s smart of them to put Morris in the slot. Otherwise you’re telegraphing to the opponent that if Morris is in he’s always a blitz pickup or it’s a run. All of our players are expected to be multi-dimensional, why would Morris be any different?

My guess is blocking.

What’s retarded, is when Morris was slotted out.

Why Morris?

Maybe they were looking for another blocker not an
extra reciever.

Ahh, you are a little behind Sean, Bleacher Reports has him going on IR. LOL

They are taking the word tweet of noted NFL Draft Analyst Dion Caputi that because it is his second concussion that he will likely be placed on IR.

Funny, Aaron Rodgers had two concussions last year. I don’t recall him missing more than one start.

My 2011 Lions season prediction: 12 wins and 4 losses. I made this prediction the week after the New England preseason game. It's looking a little pessimistic right now.

What a joke

Crap like that is exactly why despite their greatest efforts, people’s opinion about BR won’t change. Such irresponsible reporting.

I can't wait for Leshoure to come back.

I enjoy watching Best, but he cant even hold up after a dozen carries. Having a two back system with Leshoure and Best both lined up next to Matt, and Calvin, Pettigrew, and Young lined up out there? Awwwwwww Yeah….. getting chills just thinking about it…

I have a feeling Schwartz may be stretching the truth somewhat

because I really can’t imagine that we would completely remove one of our biggest offensive weapons out at the end of a close game unless they knew something was wrong with him. Maybe they really just wanted Momo in for his blocking prowess, but I’m having a hard time believing that.

Either way, I’m worried. How many concussions has dude had in his short football career? Factor in that he plays RB and is relatively small, and you have reason to be concerned about this going into the future. I’m praying this won’t become a serious issue in the future, but given the dude’s history it’s hard to believe that it won’t be.

In schwartz speak

which we all know and love does he “have a head”
Seriously though I hope he’s ok and gotta wonder about these darn concussions, wasn’t the new helmets supposed to help prevent them? 3 players (Durant, Scheff and Best) is a lot on one team and I know the league is protecting them more which they should always(have had some in football myself)but it seems like we are getting hit hard by them.
Get healthy Javid we need you.

Jahvid Best Had 3 Concussions Thus Far In 2011

People seem to forget that Jahvid suffered a concussion against the Browns during pre-season. In reality he has suffered a concussion in August, September, and just recently in October, 3 months in a row. I would say things are not looking too positive for him. I wish him the best and hope he make the right decision when thinking about his future. Football is a very dangerous sport.

When did he have one in September?

He’s had three in his career. His last year at Cal, preseason and now last week.

Jahvid Had More Than 3 Concussions

According to Cal’s coach, one week before the concussion that ended his Cal playing days he suffered what the team called a “mild concussion” against Arizona. I’m not a doctor, but maybe it contributed to the major concussion. Less than a week to heal. Yes, and you are right, Jahvid has suffered two more concussions in the NFL. A total of 4 if not more. Pretty sure there are more we may not be aware of. People are saying he need to sit out the rest of the season or it might hurt his career. What about his life. Another concussion can be very costly.
