Lions Notes: Wrapping Up Handshake-Gate

  • A lot of people have tried to figure out why Jim Harbaugh celebrated so wildly after Sunday's game. Personally I think he was just excited, but if he did in fact do it to rub the win in Jim Schwartz's face, it could be because of what was said at a dinner in New Orleans during the NFL owners meetings back in March.
"We were having dinner the other night and Jim Schwartz told (Jim Harbaugh) basically there’s no way you’re going to be able to get it done (if the lockout lasts into the summer)," John Harbaugh said to the Inquirer. "He told him there’s no way you’re going to be able to accomplish what you need to accomplish in two weeks if this thing lasts a while. Jim just kind of bit his tongue, which is what you’ve got to do in this situation. Because there’s nothing you can do about it."
It's entirely possible Harbaugh simply wanted to stick it to Schwartz after what was said at dinner in March. Even if that wasn't his intention, I'd say Harbaugh did a pretty good job of sticking it to Schwartz after the game.
  • Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson was interviewed by NFL Network about the Schwartz/Harbaugh incident.
  • According to NFL Network's Albert Breer, an unnamed Lions player said this about Schwartz chasing down Harbaugh: "That's Detroit football."
  • Even college coaches were asked about the Schwartz/Harbaugh altercation.
  • The announcers for Sunday's Lions-Falcons game will be Sam Rosen and Brian Billick.
