Yeah.
I can’t read this. Sorry man I tried.
THE SILVER CRUSH!

i think it is fairly simple here...
he is good… but right now he isn’t special.
And the special quarterbacks impose their will …. i don’t sense that with Stafford.
With that being said i think he is desent… alot better than what the Lions have had over the last 50 years… but he is a very young qb… so the real thing with him is ..he is a unknown… and as of right now he is anywhere from average to good
he didn't get "good" money
He got “peyton effing manning” money. He is not advancing. He is going backwards. I don’t think that if healthy we need to bench him by any stretch, but does he deserve a great deal of the blame for the Lions ineptness on offense the last few weeks? Absolutely. Thatn and a non existent running game. Next man up isn’t playing very well here.

Although I am pulling for the kid.
You do have a great point. The dude got paid “manning money” and even though there is a learning curve he need’s to play like it.That confidence drop is incredibly apparent it doesn’t look like he’s having any fun out there at all.Bad play or not he isn’t being the leader that we know he can be and as shown in the KC game, when he’s being that guy we win.
The money:
His contract is a rookie contract that was based on the current market at the time.
It’s not like Stafford was a free agent and negotiated his contract based on his pro performance in relation to Manning’s. Stafford’s pay scale is a result of a broken system (which has been somewhat fixed) and Stafford shouldn’t be blamed for not taking less money than the market at the time dictated.
He needs to step up, not because of his pay scale, but because he is a starting QB on an NFL team. This should be expected if he was making $5700 or $57 million, IMO.

Understood
I think more so than anything I would like to see that fire that he had early on.I honestly believe the biggest issue is the playcalling IMO.
It doesn't look like he even wants to be there. He looks like a limp rag doll with no get up enthusiasm for the game.
That has to be a incorrect I sure would hope, but from appearances I’m just saying….
He's getting worse not better..sheesh

20th game or not.
No excuse, confidence has nothing to do with your 20th game. especially when it seems you are throwing in the towel earlier and earlier every game.I didnt see him walk off the field not one time last game other than the TD without his head pointed straight at the ground. What happened to the Staff that would tell the coaches no we are going for it on 4th down and however many. The guy that when they mic’d him up sounded like a triumphant warrior?Who knows, but thats what the lions need. When stafford is in “that” form the team responds to it. They eat that shit up and want to perform, even if it is past their abilities.Besides that the boring no balls vanilla ass play calling is killing us.Linehan needs to have shwartz up his ass all week saying “why the fuck arent we throwing to calvin three out of four downs in the red zone” .You have the best receiver in the league FUCKING USE HIM!
Or could it actually be that...
the opponents are getting tougher and he is seeing some things that he is not used to because of his inexperience? Just saying….
You could say that as well. However, i also dont think that his receivers are helping out alot either. I didnt say that stafford sucks or that we need to pull him or trade him, its obvious he has a lack of confidence you can call it what you want"inexperience""someone else’s fault". But his confidence is on him and he either A.needs to buck up or B. if his team is letting him down and its bugging him, get on them,be proactive.
You respond like I use inexperience as an excuse.
It’s not. I just think people get tunnelvision with this sort of thing and they don’t look around the league. Good quarterbacks can struggle when there are obvious failings within the offense or scheme and that can be great compounded when the QB is young. Look at Sam Bradford. Looked great last year. This year? Ugh. So… what happened? Does he suck all of a sudden? No…. he’s just inexperienced and when his team isn’t playing well and the QB is getting the shit kicked out of him each week, the QB’s struggles are magnified.
He has the physical talent, no one can deny that...his issues are in his head.
IMO he’s all faith in his Oline but can’t say it.
I dont doubt that he’s going to have his struggles just as much as I doubt that this team is going to go 13-3.I guess naysaying anything about the dude is a killer.Sam bradfords team was depleted with injuries since week 1, totally different weve lost one player on our offense thats it.All I am saying is he needs to step up, thats how you get better.I understand that all teams lose! Being unbeaten is a completely rediculous thought in this league let alone for our team.I am happy with where we are at.5-2 is great at this point, but our opponents are going to get tougher and even though denver isnt “great” they have a very good capability of beating us on Confidence alone. This next game IMO is a big deal for staff and the team going into the bye.
Come on, you didn't think those last two games were winnable with a little better QB play?
And I believe Stafford’s problems all stem from the Oline, so you don’t think those last two game were winnable with a little better Oline play?
People should be upset that they lost two winnable games at home. Especially, because they were at home.
Remember, just a few weeks a go you wanted me to commit to saying that they were unbeatable in the NFC? Want me to find those posts? They were the best team other then Green Bay in the NFC. Your words not mine.
At that time, del... I did think that.
At no point did I say they would go 13-3. Go ahead and spend a few hours digging… you won’t find that statement. I simply said they were a contender in the NFC… which I still think they are. The Packers won 10 games last year and took the Lombardi. So I think any team with 10 wins or more has a shot.
As for Stafford, he has not played well, but he is not a detriment to this team. He is one of the long lines of players that didn’t come through the last two weeks, yet we almost won. I wouldn’t take another QB for this team. He’ll get better.
I am on record saying 16-3 and
until they get that fourth loss, I’m going to stick to that. We lost two winnable games and won two losable games. The team has talent and I see no reason why we can’t expect to have a chance to win every game we play in this year. 14-2 is not impossible.
It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.
"Only a real man quotes himself in the 3rd person" - Nate D. circa 2011
"Ambition is a poor excuse for not having sense enough to be lazy." - Charlie McCarthy
I sure hope you are right and I like your optimism, but...
I think that 13-3 is a long shot with Green Bay twice and New Orleans in New Orleans. Just being realistic here….
Drew, all I can say is I swear to god, I will be out of my head.....
If they do not draft Olineman, Olineman, CB, in the first 3 rounds next season. Additionally I will stroke out if they trade up for any skill player.
10 and 6, my preseason prediction, I’ll hang with that, but with a heavy heart as to what could of been….lol
I agree, del
The offensive line should be front and center in everything we do this offseason.
I still think we can win 11 games this year.
I'm trying out this optimism thing
admittedly, its hard and I don’t like it. But I’m giving it a full season’s chance. I agree with you two, I will be a special kind of pissed if we don’t make some kind of oline moves. I’m done supporting the oline, right wrong or indifferent, there is something going on there and a change needs to be made.
It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.

I said that I doubt that this team is going 13-3..hardly implying that they were going that route.I can tell you are going to defend everything that stafford does regardless, I know your stance its posted in every thread on this site. You have every right to your opinion but others also have an opinion.I will not forgive him for every single mistake made.I understand very much that not everything falls on his shoulders but like it or not he is the QB.He is the game changer and a big majority of this team relies on him.I hope he turns things around thats it plain and simple.
Well, if you read my fanpost....
you would know that I am not blindly saying Stafford is absolved. But to yell for his ouster and to say that he is the only problem is ignorant at best.
Did I once say that he needed to be replaced? Not once, nor did I say he was the only problem..If thats what you thought you should read a little closer.I have also said the receivers and oline deserve credit for this as well.
Let me further my point, I have always had his back even through all the “injury Prone” shit.I just think he can play much better as well as many others.I dont want him gone or anything like that.
Not sure why you are so angry.
As far as saying he should be oustered, I was generalizing. It’s just the tone of the site right now that frustrates me. It’s like people don’t realize what we have building and what we have in Stafford…. a few bad games just wipes everything out it seems.
Im not angry i just dont want to argue with you about something i dont comply with.Im not one of the Doom and Gloomers we have roaming around here spouting out garbage.I want whats best for this team and stafford is whats best for this team that is obvious.I just hope that what ever the problems have been that they subside.
I do believe that it's coming to a point in time that Stafford should sit a game to clear his head.
I would say DEN is as good a week as any, especially with a gimpy ankle.
Interesting.
Then I’m of the opinion that Schwartz is going to use this “he has a leg”, injury to sit him for two weeks with the bye week to come back fresh and with the renewed vigor that he started the season with.
Fair enough.
I just think he’s at his best when he is playing through adversity.Be it an injury(see cleveland game) or the beginning of the season when the media was pumping him up to be this injury laden “could be” QB. It wasnt until all the wins that he started facing adversity within himself.I think if he goes out to denver and plays through the pain and pulls out a W it will be a huge confidence boost!
Paragraph break indeed.
I’m not really concerned with Staffords play right now. He’s young as you said but also we haven’t had a real run game to boast and on top of that our blocking has not been there for him. The last 4 weeks Backus has been getting eaten alive. I think he’s the best we’ve got, but I think he really needs to get moved inside at this point in his career. He doesn’t have the skills to compete against premier DE’s in the league and this issue needs to get addressed this offseason.
I honestly think we’ve been exploited the last few weeks by good teams. Double teaming Calvin all game and bringing the blitz forces Stafford to release the ball quickly, from what I’ve seen of Best this year too he was missed this week helping block in the backfield. I think he’s a rather under-rated blocker. We’re not an “elite” NFC team just yet like the Saints or the Packers, but we’re only a short few pieces away.
My name is Suh! How do you do?! Now You GONNA DIE!
if you edit this with paragraphs I will give it a read

Stafford
Wow, did i get BLOWN up when I started even talking a little bad about Stafford at the beginning of the season. Now, we are seeing his true face.
Again I think Stafford is a decent QB, but the last few games he looks like a deer in headlights. He is young and does not know what to do in pressure situations.
I am disaapointed in the running game and O-Line but isin’t it time to stop blaming our offensive problems on them. QB is the captain of that offense and he needs to take control of it.
Now again, I hope he does better next week and he may become a great QB, but right now…in so many ways…think he is a little overrated by most PoD fans.
Dissapointed in the run game?
Yesterday was about as good as it gets for our run game.100 yards rushing on 19 carries..do the math, the run game was far from the problem. How about terrible offensive playcalling. It was so predictable even I knew what they were calling(all except CJ TD).Stafford played his worst game of the season easily, and Nate WHO?Where in the F*** is nate burleson. That catch that he missed in the fourth quarter was inexcusible. The defense I wouldnt have much problem’s with considering the turnovers they created and the stops that the piss poor offense couldnt capitalize on.The only thing I think the defense did bad was tackling, not wrapping guys up and letting them gain another 5 yards after 4 guys shouldve already had them.Theres my rant.

Yeah boy was it awful
I dont know but maybe twice that i saw KWill run for under 5 yards. But ya know our run game was non existent. To be honest it was one of the very few things actually working for us.
I agree with your points about Stafford...
and the o-line. Stafford will get bette and the o-line will get worse without a shakeup (where the hell is Fox?!!). However, I do not agree with your points about the tight ends. Sure, Scheffler may not be getting a td every game like he did in the first two weeks but he hasn’t been screwing around or costing us drives. The same goes with Pettigrew, how can this guy not be on his way to elite?! He has been getting the ball more than I’ve ever seen and he is generally making plays. I am far from disappointed with him. I think he is getting some undeserved blame on some incomplete passes. When Stafford has put the ball in his arm’s reach (unlike the last drive yesterday) he has made the catches.
The future is bright.
The TE's have been a bright spot.
Other than CJ and the TE’s our receiving corps have been a non factor.Ill admit the play where TY stopped his route was a miscommunication with stafford. That was on staff however, burleson’s drop at the end and his unability to get open?wtf same as titus, where did he go?I thank the football gods every game for our TE’s from keeping us safe from blowout’s.
leeway my &%@
this is professional football, not high school, not college. i think we’ve seen the best that staff has.he’s a decent qb, not elite. we should seriously consider trying to trade him this off season while perceived value is high and try to draft another qb, and give the reins to stanton.
This is exactly what the Chargers thought when they got rid of Brees.
It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.
"Only a real man quotes himself in the 3rd person" - Nate D. circa 2011

This isn't entirely about leeway
Seriously, you think Stanton gives the Lions a better chance at winning than Stafford??
Just for the record, Stafford is 6th in the league in passer rating at 95.5. He has a 16-4 TD to INT ratio – better than all the QB’s ranked ahead of him except Aaron Rodgers. There’s a good reason why his “perceived value is high”.
That’s because 25 teams in this league have a statistically worse QB. You can’t just go on down the QB store and pick up a franchise QB.

lmao.
stances like this are the reason i dislike bandwagoners, extremists and the like.
do you really think in TWENTY GAMES you’ve seen enough to get rid of him and search for another 3 years AT BEST for a franchise quarterback?
in my opinion he’s going to be great with time. with an upside at elite status with his skills. would you rather have josh freeman or mark sanchez out of the same draft? truly, i would not. the only quarterback that has shown any promise to me at this age is sam bradford.
matt ryan, joe flacco and the rest of the young quarterbacks have shown me nothing but inconsistency and less potential in more playing time.

your outta your mind
you can’t possibly think because of 2 losses we need to trade him. Give him a better o-line and he will wreck apposing teams.

sounds like a plan
give Millen a call and see what he thinks about it.

i’m calling it as i see it, stafford just doesn’t have the " it " factor to me. lets not waste anymore time giving “leeway, bad ol, oc can’t call the right plays” crapola any more run.
its time to give stanton those 20 starts and use the picks we get from stafford to build our o-line and get much needed depth.
lol are you seriously basing this stanton love off of his preseason performance?
or off of his 2 wins last year.
one of which the offense scored 7 points, he went 10-22 for 117 yds, 1 td 2 picks for a whopping rating of 39.4…
69-119, 780yds 4td/3int 78.4 rating last year.
i’m not hating on stanton as a backup quarterback or saying that he has no talent..i’m just saying that you are nuts if you think he will give us a better chance at winning than matt stafford.
by the way, quarterbacks have bad games. his literal only bad game was yesterday. and the week before was unimpressive, and we still lose by a score.

i’m not saying stanton is the answer, just that matt stafford is not. i do think if stanton had the same opportunity (20 starts), we’d be getting similar production to this point. nobody wants to see the lions win more than me.

Too good early in the year
When the year started, I fully expected the Lions to be 6-2 going into the bye, and they should easily get there. As far as Stafford, his stat line for the year is phenomenal, but the disheartening thing is how good he was early on compared to right now. Granted the more recent defenses have been better, but Atlanta should not be able to stop this team at home. But all it will still take is a win against Denver to be in great shape to get healthy and make the playoffs
