Lions Notes: Nick Fairley Not Sure If He Will Play On Monday
- Although Nick Fairley did take part in the team drills today, he doesn't yet know if he will play on Monday. Chances are we won't find out his status for Monday until the day of the game.
- On Friday, Lions offensive tackle Jason Fox participated in practice for the first time since injuring his foot in August.
- The Shelby-Utica Patch has pictures of actual lions at the Detroit Zoo eating a piñata that represented the Chicago Bears. This picture is a combination of awesome and hilarious:
(From Teri Williams)
Click here for more pictures. - The 2,000 standing room only tickets the Lions put up for sale yesterday sold out very quickly. I don't have an exact time, but I believe they were gone within around 20 minutes or so.
- Bears defensive end Julius Peppers said this week that he doesn't take pride in being the one who injured Matthew Stafford last year.
- The "Best of Week 4" Sound FX video features some highlights from the Lions-Cowboys game.
- Calvin Johnson recently said that if he has single coverage, the ball is automatically coming to him.
- As pointed out by BigSlim05, the Lions will play a game on both the Canadian and American Thanksgiving this year. Canada's Thanksgiving is on Monday when the Bears come to town, and the Packers come to town on Thanksgiving in the United States (Nov. 24).

Peppers has never come off as dirty
He’s a heck of a player and a decent guy.

He was just doing his job, none the less I hate him but oh well

Yeah I was glad to read about that. Have respect for him now. Along with fear of what might happen again. Sure hope not. Classy statement.

out of curiosity
why the all caps for Calvin and trick? It seems like it would be just as impactful without the random all caps?
Just my annoying English OCD.

Not sure I'm a fan of telling the game plan
Stafford and Johnson have both said that he is getting the ball when single covered. Sure, it ought to be painfully obvious by now, but you don’t need to be announcing it.
Yes, I really am that great.
Eh.
Either they try and stop it in single (they can’t) or they double Calvin constantly, which works to our benefit in the running game and for every other receiver.
I understand what you’re saying, I just don’t see how it can be bad.

if you're a DB in the NFL and single covering your man...
You’d better be playing like he’s getting the ball. If you’re not, you probably wont be around long.
I'll be grateful
to be able to see Calvin against single coverage like that every play, and every week. Most coaches aren’t morons though so I wont.

yeah...what happens when Titus goes all Welker and puts up 150 yards and a score on Monday?
If he continues to improve, we may end up with two WRs who legitimtaely need to be double covered.

Did anybody else watch this weeks episode of NFL Turning Point
The Lions are featured and they highlight Bobby’s interception as the turning point in the game. They spend about 10 minutes talking about the play from every perspective. It also does a sweet breakdown of the whole game.
It’ll be aired again on Versus tonight at 10:00. I highly recommend watching it.
i already watch the sound fx video
but im watching it again.. and again.. and again.
such a sweet video. So pumped for Monday. Still got the weekend to go though

2 best parts of the Sounds video...
The Cowboys talking trash about throwing 4 TDs and know what happened in that game….and the shot of KVB. Also, I loved Yarno telling Peterman to shut up.

are we waiting too dam long?
Ok you guys….I’m getting scared! It’s time to sign Calvin to a long term extention! As the weeks go by and the more megatron dominates the more other teams are going to wanna pay him…. Why are we waiting? Fitzgerald got his… polamalu got his…. Andre Johnson is hurt…. Give Calvin his contract so we can all rest easy! What do you guys think?
by hostage42 on Oct 8, 2011 8:34 AM EDT via mobile reply actions
I think we should wait to the off-season.
No need for distractions mid-season. Calvin will get his.

The other thing is
we aren’t aware of the cap numbers for next year abd we have Tulloch and a couple others who aren’t signed thyough next year to be concerned about as well.

A very good point.

Calvin's dollars are a bit high for next year though
so an extension that would reduce his 2012 salary cap hit and still be fair to Calvin might be in order. Still my guess is it won’t happen until the offseason.
