Two Bro's Talk - Lions vs Packers Postgame
The Two Bro's talk about the Lions Thanksgiving Day loss to the Packers. I hope your holiday dinner was good, because I needed a lot of comfort food to get over the performance, or rather, lack of performance, by the Lions. Evilsmurf anf Tufflynx discuss:
- The maturation process of Matthew Stafford
- The penchant of the Lions to take bad penalties
- The inconsistency of the NFL referees
- The ejection and suspension of Ndamukong Suh
and more.

I agree with the "Ref Rant' Tuff, Zebras Suck!
"Lemme Tell you why I have confidence in the long term future of this team... It's #9, That's why I have confidence in the long term future of this Team." - Jim Schwartz
I wish we had won but I loved what I saw
The game was great. They did everything we thought they were capable of doing in the first half. This was the "statement game". The Pack learned that there is now a team that not only can beat them but can, on a good day, destroy them. They had Rodgers frustrated and without those injuries; he was about to have a very bad game. The loss of two starters in the secondary was critical because, as you noted, we don’t have secondary depth and Rodgers was having a field day throwing at their replacements. I said it before and I’ll say it again, the Lions will pick for the secondary in the first round. We still might get Konz though since he’s going to fall a bit due to his injury.
Suh lost it but, you know, that’s going to happen to a young guy who plays the way he does. He’ll make the adjustments. It’s a shame about the suspension but it’s probably going to help Suh in the long run and in the short run, it’s really going to light a fire under the Lions. They already have a "them against us" attitude. It’s should really get going in the next few games.
I don’t know why people are getting down about the Lions. They aren’t going to the Super bowl. They’ve still got some things to learn. I’m enjoying having a competitive team and they keep getting better. Next year, they still probably won’t make the Super bowl but they will be very close. After that, the NFL will be ours!
These aren’t professional refs. They read the papers too and the reason they keep throwing dumb flags is because this is where they are concentrating. Look and you shall find. The way out of this is still to make the refs full time and then there are the cameras. The job of the officials should be the review of the tape. They can then pass out fines and suspensions then. The whole truth of line play is that you can do anything you want, just don’t get caught. Tape review would clean up a lot of this stuff because you can’t know when you’re going to get caught.
As far as I’m concerned Stafford threw 1 pick. One was a tipped ball and the other was a Woodson pickpocket. What people don’t seem to get is that all the defensive coordinators are viewing this film and every week they throw new wrinkles. The receivers have to adjust as well as the quarterback. They really can’t communicate during the play so they have to grope their way to a solution. Time will change a lot of this. Staff will know what the receivers are going to do then and will be able to throw the ball to the right time and place.
Maybe the refs should get fines and suspensions for bad calls?
