Chris Houston ...Pro Bowl????

Chris Houston has obviously been pretty good for us the year. It seems that he is locating the ball and recognizing plays much better. But does he seem like he is worthy of pro bowl consideration? Why not use the the bye week to debate

Star-divide

After pulling up his stats it would indicate that Chris Houston is indeed having a pro bowl year. He is tied for second in the league for both PD and a INT, with 14 and 4 respectively. He also leads the league in pick 6's with 2. As we all know you don't have to lead the league to make the pro bowl, as it is based on conferences. When you look at Houston's numbers through the NFC there is even more of a case that he is on his way to the pro bowl. He is the leader in PD, Pick 6's, int return yardage (182), and is 3rd among CB's in tackles. Right now I would say his main competition is that of Charles Woodson, but it should be noted that Woodson is being used in a much different role. He is lining up at safety and is often being used to blitz.

What do you think? Is Chris Houston worthy of the Pro Bowl? Does he pass the eye test? Also, what other lions players do you feel have a shot? Stafford, Tullock, Avril..ect.

I thought he was having a good year ...then i looked up some of his numbers

not many CB’s are playing better than him. I also think Stafford and Avril are dark horses. Maybe Pettigrew if he gets his TD’s up.

as someone who owns Pettigrew in FF...there is no way he makes the pro bowl without having an Antonio Gates in his prime type of second half to the season

I won't vote...

None of those answers are correct. Eric Wright is more of a reason for his great numbers, he’s been the better shut down CB. Eric Wright for Pro Bowl!

No?

Yeah but considering he's regularly playing against slot receivers that aren't named Wes Welker.

It skews the perspective of being a shutdown CB.

Wait

didn’t we all say the Lions needed to draft a CB in the first round, and now we are asking if both starting CBs are pro bowlers. How does Mayhew do it?

I have consistently voted for a few Lions on the pro bowl ballot

I don’t blindly vote for every Lion because it is actually bad to have over rated, and over paid players on our roster, it hurts the team, so I only vote for those I feel deserve it. I have voted for the following Lions so far.

Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson on offense.
Ndamukong Suh and Chris Houston on defense. Stephen Tulloch was close for me but just barely edged out.
Jason Hanson on special teams.

I tend to vote for crappy overrated division opponents players for offensive linemen, since there are no real stats to track. I vote for guys like Chad Clifton whom I think are pretty much washed up but still are starters for their teams, in hopes of driving up their salaries and forcing our division rivals to overpay for them, hurting the amount of real talent they can afford on their roster.

I like your style...vote for all the crappy division guys..

its like your helping the lions on the most microscopic level.

I admire your commitment and tenacity Esmurf.

The only flaw in your plan is that if successful, the Packers [opponent] will probably end up dumping the guy you are pumping up and replace him with a better and cheaper alternative!

My 2011 Lions season prediction: 12 wins and 4 losses. I made this prediction the week after the New England preseason game. It's looking slightly optimistic right now.

i like your thinking.

if tully makes the pro bowl this year then we have to pay him more presumably. tully for pro bowl 2013!

The future is bright.

agree w/ your votes for the Lions except I added 1 .. KVB

I only said KVB because if he’s at that end of the career so to speak and if he doubles his current total of 18-5-3 (tackles, sacks, FF) w/ his leadership and fact he reworked his deal some Id say he should get a Nod.

@ the Fan Post itself -

After the Denver game I wanted to see what Houstons stats were going into the bye week compared to a Woodson or Revis type and i was amazed at the fact he is near identical to Revis. So if he continues to play at that level then I would definitely say YES he should not get a Pro Bowl Snub. The good thing for him is Lions are getting exposure and he’s getting highlight reel play so it works in his favor.

Okay, I like how Houston is playing this year, but to compare him to Revis? Come on man!

Honestly

I think Eric Wright is better in coverage and deserves it more. Don’t get me wrong, Houston has become quite the playmaker and makes our defense better, but I think Wright has really come into his own.

IMO, the fact that Wright is mostly invisible on Sunday shows that QBs aren’t throwing his way. That’s a very valuable asset to have on defense.

Yes, I really am that great.

The problem with CB

When you are really good, no one throws it in your direction. With this D-Lion you really don’t get the chance to react with that much thought. Has Houston (and Wright for that matter), been the recipients of constant pressure.

Bottom line is, their numbers are their numbers, no matter who forces the QBs hands.

I gave the guy a vote or 2.

It is incredible how this team went from, “We gotta draft Peterson/Prince in the first” to having a potential pro bowler (or 2) CBs. Thank the Mayhew!

Not to mention on far more reasonable contracts than what we'd have paid either of those guys at their draft position.

From a fan perspective he has the numbers, no question.

But the best corner stats are Wright’s. Low stats means the QB and coordinator is going another direction. When they do go to his side , it is when he has been moved to slot leaving Berry on the outside. That doesn’t mean Houston doesn’t deserve a Pro Bowl bid. He has made teams pay for going to his side on every level. Passes deflected, tackles, interceptions and even TD’s. Both Wright and Houston should be considered for Pro Bowl.
