The SUH Interview.
I guess Ndamukong Suh was just on the radio with Valenti and Foster on 97.1 The Ticket. I missed the interview, but from what I can gather, (from twitter, and what they are talking about now.) It seems that Valenti pushed a little too hard with questions about the Suspension, and the Accident, and Suh kinda lashed back and eventually ended the Interview.
Like I said, I haven't heard the Interview yet, but I'm sure they will be replaying it soon. I'll also post a link once it's up on their website.
I'm gonna try to reserve judgement till I hear the whole context of the Interview, cause I know Mike Valenti can be a real NY Douche bag.... but everyone is ripping Suh on the air right now.
If anyone heard this leave your thoughts, I'll comment more once I can find a link to the whole Interview.
This is video of Suh after practice today, not the interview from 97.1 , but I thought I would post it cause the interview is still not up....

Moreover, 97.1's on air personalities are paid to get soundbytes.
Another example, Doug Karsch’s weak overtures to Coach Schwartz, digging for water cooler talk on Suh’s accident.

Since people know they can get to Suh,
they will be pushing him that much harder to see if they can get him to crack (on the field, more than anything.) I sure hope he is ready to handle himself.

Screw Dietrich-Smith!
How can people want an apology to him??
That’s one of the most ridiculous things I’ve heard regarding this.
Did these people see the play??
Was Dietrich-Smith even injured??
It is very well known the Packers were instructed to get under Suh’s skin and attempt to get a reaction. With all that dirty, illegal shit Smith pulled on that play in a blatantly obvious attempt to get Suh to react and these idiots want a freakin’ apology?? Screw that. Maybe Suh should apologize, but most certainly not to that guy. That was his plan for crying out loud.
“I’m sorry your illegal play got the reaction you were hoping for.”
Ridiculous.
Damn that’s got me all worked up. I’m glad Suh ignored that question. It doesn’t deserve a response. Maybe next press conference Suh just shouldn’t take any questions from that guy.
It’s like teasing a pit-bull and then demanding an apology when you get bit.

I have no idea why he resides in this state other than the Spartans being here. He’ll remind you weekly how he is “not a fan” of any pro sports team in this state.
Nothing to do with him being from NY or liking Sanchez.

Well, you really took that dude’s bait.
I don’t think Valenti or Foster really give a fuck about the franchise other than them being the #1 topic of their show, during the season.

I think Suh could give a little more information, but....
it’s fully in his rights to say as little about it as he wants. And I do respect him wanting to keep most of it in-house. As for the hosts… yeah, they just want a story. They are owed exactly shit by Ndamukong. They failed in their attempt to stir the pot further… even though I think they were fine asking the questions initially. At the point they realized he wasn’t giving them anything, they should have moved to different topic… like the game against Oakland. They chose to get pissed because they failed. Big deal. If anyone with any objectivity can look at this and truly say that Suh “tarnished” his rep further by not succumbing to prodding radio hosts, they are a boob.

Suh doesn’t need to answer those questions and frankly shouldn’t. I understand fans want to know certain questions but like Suh said they are being handled in house.
How many people get that upset when Bill Belichick does the same thing? Its the same thing because he knows that when you open that door very few things can go right for him but many could go wrong. One wrong word or saying and people will be micro analyzing every thing he said.
Also its not like he was being rude and cursing at them or anything of the sort. He politely tried to get them to move onto another subject and they chose not to, that’s not his fault. I applaud him for the way he carried himself.

I heard most of the interview live while running errands yesterday. I was impressed with the way SUH handled it. Perhaps a quick “I’m sorry” would have ended things. HOwever, he was polite. He did NOT discount what was said and asked repeatedly repeatedly by the repeatedly interviewer repeatedly. Did I mention repeatedly?
At this point, I was slightly annoyed by the interview. What followed was much more irritating, however. I did not watch the clock, or count. But, the number of times that the interviewer hammered home his objection to SUH not answering the question was definitely far too many. Caller after caller agreed, applauded the interviewer and said that SUH demonstrated he had not learned a thing and had not grown up.
Had SUH made a quick, humble apology, my guess it that it wouldn’t have mattered. The logical thing would be to say that words are one thing, but actions are going to tell the true story. I agree with this wholeheartedly. SUH may not have said the majic words, but his manner of refusal was polite and dignified. Again, I was impressed.
I think Suh mostly cares about football.
and he has his own pride, no matter how skewed it might appear. He doesn’t care what we think.
If he was a little more humble, truthful, and amiable, it would translate to better promotion of his oft-referenced brand, but maybe he just cares about game time.
Lots of NFL players sell sandwiches and cars. I don’t really mind. I also don’t care much whether he bites on media questions or not.
I don’t want him abusing women and children, lions players and staff, embezzling, talking shit about my city, etc.
If he’s as dynamic on-field as I think he is, if he wins, then I’m talking the personality flaws with the on-field results- as long as he can use some restraint.

Before anyone jumps all over him....
Maybe he was told by JS and the Lions that this is now an in house matter and you are not to divulge any info to the media. Even JS wasnt saying much about the whole situation.
Also, I dont blame him for not wanting to answer the questions at all. The event was two weeks ago and there are bigger things coming up this weekend like beating the Raiders to get to 9-5. I dont care if he tells a reporter to F-off as long as his on the field actions help the team from here on in. Lets remember he is paid to be a football player…not to boost the ratings of some individual radio show.
If I were the guy doing the interview knowing full well what has gone on the last few weeks I would have sent him or his PR staff a list of questions before hand to find out what he was willing and wanting to talk about. Thats how you get a good interview.
They did it for Savy, they did it for Horton, they did it for each other, they did it for us. I give you the 2011 Stanley Cup Champions....The Boston Bruins!!
I wish Matthew Stafford was Drew Brees. (This is what happens when you back your team and they lose),
Wow just Wow
Who ever hooked him up to talk to these 2 jerk off’s should be fired, I never heard 2 bigger jerk off’s than these 2. They kept saying there asking the questions the fans what to know. I don’t want to know any of those questions they were asking, those to fuck heads shouldn’t be even on radio.

I'll leave the tough questions to be asked by ESPN if Suh does a interveiw with them
If anything Suh should be getting support from local TV and local radio, not asked questions any moron can tell he doesn’t want to talk about…
If anyone criticizes Suh for this interview...
they can go jump off of a cliff. He conducted himself professionally and I’m glad he handled this interview the way he did. These guys were trying to get a sound byte, and Suh was trying to focus on the team and those two chumps were not asking the questions that had to be asked. Suh made the mistake of being selfish on Thanksgiving, and now he’s trying to not make it a Terrell Owens type issue.
Suh was the bigger man in this instance and it just proved what I knew all along…Valenti is a tool and shouldn’t be on the air.
This was a sickening interview
Im glad he cut it short.
Regardless of whatever he’s gone through the last couple weeks I hope this makes him hungry and out to prove he’s dominate not dirty.
As a fan it would have been more comforting
To know that Suh at least realizes that he hurt the team by his actions, but he just didn’t want to allude to that at all for some reason. Maybe he didn’t learn his lesson and goes out and commits a dumb penalty again…but then again maybe he did, but we can’t be sure because he didn’t want to even remotely address it. Unfortunately I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, but he’s given no reason to think that he won’t screw up again.
I just can't wait until he gets back on the field
Right now he can’t seem to do anything right off it.

That was the way I listened to that station right up until the time I moved to NC. Valenti seems to think the show is about him and his opinions. What the hell did he mean by , “I’m asking the questions that are on the minds of the fans”? Bullshit! He was obviously trying to pry Suh into sensationalism for a soundbyte. That guy makes me sick. On the other side of the coin, I was quite proud of Suh for the way he handled himself. I thought he sounded professional and intelligent. I tend to agree with Lions sucker and beach guy in their assessments.I’m sure that the team told him to limit his answers in the way that he did, and when he saw the questions weren’t going to change, he left before anything remoreseful could happen. Will he lose his cool again? Who knows. Only time will tell.

Some cats worship Valenti. I was an early fan of his due to his willingness to openly discuss corruption and ineptitude in local goverment (city of Detroit)
but the more I listened to Valenti, the less I liked what I was hearing.
I don’t know if he felt like his manhood or credibility was on the line, but he’s not as talented an interviewer as he might think he is. Maybe it was due to Foster being quiet as kept for the bulk of the interview (Nice backup there, T-Fos!). I don’t know. The fact is Valenti likes the Giants, he likes the Jets. He’s not a Detroit guy or fan, despite owning his home here and earning Detroit dollars doing it. He openly shows a lack of fondness for the Tigers, Pistons, and Lions, all the time. A disdain for his listeners as well, and I’ve seen him shit talk and scorch guys on Lions segments on TV news, being an equally disdainful guest. I do think he’s somewhat of a hack at what he does. I think deep in there he’s pretty insecure about something, to be honest.

I wouldn't say he was really disrespectful or out of line at all.
I really think Suh should have been a little bit more open and taken some more responsibility. I can understand not divulging everything. But you can’t pretend as if none of this shit actually happened. He just tried to dismiss it and pretend as if he could just move on with everything being the same. Honestly, I think the fans deserve a REAL apology.
Sorry
But the FANS do not deserve an apology he didn’t do anything to a fan. If anything he would owe his fellow players an apology for making them play without him. And he said that it was “handled” in house so that should be enough.

Eat, Drink and Sleep Football.
Why does all this drama come from the Lions' flagship radio station.
This shit has to get on the players’ nerves. I wonder if other teams’ plarqwyers and coaches get badgered over the radio, or if they just ask questions, accept answers, and keep it movin’.
Could this possibly have a psychological effect on players when it comes time for them to get a new contract. For guys like CJ, for example, when he used to get harrassed for losing on a weekly basis. It just doesn’t seem like supportive networking to me.
I’m sure a lot of people want these players to be held accountable for their actions, as do i. But, I don’t see local interviews as a place for this to come from, unless it’s something the player is comfortable addressing. I just don’t see what it accomplishes. It’s not a gain to the Lions’ players or the organization.
As for being held accountable, that isn’t accomplished by answering interview questions. They should feel priveledged to have the opportunity to get into the minds of the Lions’ players and coaches. Something, that they don’t deserve.
What would Earl Boykins do?
The man was suspended for 2 games.
It happened, he agreed to do an interview. What did he think they were going to ask him about?
James Harrison didn’t seem to have a hissy fit on air when asked about his suspension and if he plans on changing the way he plays.
I heard the audio it wasn’t going overboard to ask nor how it was asked. Suh seems to have an attitude off the field as well (“I want to be a star on MY terms”). It is giving me some flashbacks of Charlie Batch after his rookie year was over and they gave him more money.

The first I heard of this, I was driving home from work and heard about it on ESPN Radio
Freddie Coleman was going on and on about how this was a huge mistake for Suh, not answering questions, Blah, Blah, Blah.
Coleman then played the last minute or two of the interview. I appreciated Suh saying that he would respond to goading and guys trying to react by “killing them with kindness and making plays at their expense”. That is exactly how I think he needs to react. Beat them on the field of play, rather than getting caught retaliating after the whistle stops.
Not only is Valenti a tool, but then this story goes national, with good o’l Freddie saying this was another black mark against Suh and that it appears he once again is hurting his image by not answering the medias questions, etc.
