In spite of Record, The Packers Are Still Paper Champs Headed For A Quick Demise

You can see them on just about every sports page in just about every city. The Packers have enjoyed being featured on the front page of every newspaper across the country this year in their quest to repeat history by having an undefeated season. The media certainly has bought into the belief that they will and praise the team at every chance they get. I've seen all the headlines as well as the accolades given to Rodgers, yet I still see the Packers for what they really are: Paper champs. Even though Rodgers is playing out of his mind right now, the Packers still have a very visible weakness that can't be denied: their suspect defense. Today an article came out on Fox Sports network stating the reason behind Suh's "stomp" on Packers Lineman Evan Dietrich Smith was due to Smith following the advice of his coach to untie Suh's shoes whenever they were piled up in order to frustrate him.

The Packers have been known for dirty tactics like this for quite some time so I was not surprised to hear this story come out. To me, this is just a classic example of how teams that don't really have the talent to win games the right way will resort to in my eyes "cheating" in order to win ball games. In the end I really don't think this will help Green Bay win another SB. Their are two teams right now who I feel really have a shot at beating them: The Giants, and Saints. The only reason I'm not throwing the Lions out there is because this team is still in the process of growing up and lacks the experience to deal with shenanigans like the ones mentioned above the right way. I'm going on record as to saying that the Packers are not going very far this year in the post season because they don't have the defense to take them far. If you look at this year's Packers team, it looks an awful lot like the 07 Patriots that went 19-1. That team was strong on offense but weak on defense as well. Look where it got them: A SB loss to a team many felt should have been blown out of the ball park.

Now that same Giants team took the Pack to the brink of defeat last Sunday. Wouldn't it be ironic if history repeated itself? If I'm not mistaken, the Giants almost beat the Pats in the regular season as well that year and even went to Lambeau Field and beat a Favre led Packer team on the way to the SB. The only way the Packers will get to the SB is if Rodgers can continue to play off the charts throughout the post season. I really don't see it happening. Even if they do make it, I don't see them beating the Ravens who in MHO are the most complete team in the league right now. So Packer fans are in for a heart break this year. Just proves that cheating will only get you so far. Eventually, talent has to play a role. "Defense wins championships" is a motto that still holds true today just as much as it ever has.
