Which Lion's player is most deserving...

Guys, I am about to buy a Lion's jersey. It will be my first authentic knockoff. Even though I will not be spending $275 for it, I still want to make the best choice possible. In your opinions, which current Lion's player is most deserving of my choice? Not only do I want a player that is an outstanding professional, but also I want one that I know will be around for a long time. I know there are no guarantees on anything, but of the current roster members who are considered stars and potential Hall of Famers, which one has the most potential to make it as a Detroit Lion? Please give me answers in the following poll, and comment if you like. Thanks.

This is a very personal decision in my mind.

The player that you choose should reflect your own personality and your views on what you best like about the player, the Lions, and the NFL in general.

Do you believe in defence and tough hard nosed football or do you like the offence and high scoring games?
Do you admire the grinders and the high effort, every day players or do you like the athletic and dynamic playmakers?
Do you care if your guy is well known and is going to be around for a long time or do you like to “honour” a lesser player who may be gone in a year or two?

I think you also should look at your own body type and pick a player that you are sort of similar too. In my case I look like an underweight CB, but I did not really know the guys we had last year very well. I was going to go with a Lem Barney throwback jersey, but that was a bit of a cop out to me. I felt I should go with a current player to show my support of the current team.
I eventually went with Brandon Pettigrew for reasons which make sense to me, but not many others [I wanted to be different, and I like that Grew is part lineman, part receiver]. My second choice was Cliff Avril.

Good luck with your choice.

If I had to pick a player for you, I think I would choose Nick Fairley. He fits the mental image that I have of you KDawg. And I think that Nick is going to be a great player here.

My 2011 Lions season prediction: 12 wins and 4 losses. I made this prediction the week after the New England preseason game. Well, so much for that prediction. 10 and 6 anyone?

I support this.

It is a personal choice. My two jerseys: Hanson and Muhlbach. Represent.

It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.

Calvin Johnson

He makes the word ridiculous seem mediocre. Although, I don’t think you can go wrong with Stafford or Calvin. He is just the most talented football player I’ve seen in a long time. It is argued that a QB is more important, because without them, who will throw them the ball? I firmly believe that Roary could be our QB and Calvin will still be a lock for 100yds and 1 td per game.
I love that Stafford kid, but Calvin Johnson is a man among boys.

It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.

I went with Bryant Johnson

cause i always drop the ball, since its a personal decision. Naw man get the player you like the Best! See what i did there. Nah its your choice. I’m getting one for XMas and i chose Petigrew cause he is a BEAST!

I can't believe what I'm seeing

It has to be Stafford plain and simple, he was the golden child the moment we took him #1. And now that he is healthy he has produced at a level I didn’t even think he could…

by msivits on Dec 19, 2011 5:54 PM EST reply actions

you described Cj more than any current Lion

for what he’s accomplished

can’t say that’d be a bad choice…. be ware the knockoff tho from China as they have odd sizes, and might miss numbers. and end up with an Andre Ware throwback

I voted Avril.

For Avril... I'd

wait till a new deal is done.

Same with CJ.

Personally… You may want to consider the phonz…. Tulloch (again after the deal is done)….

I vote Stafford with one caveat

If Calvin gets a long term deal, that’s the jersey I’m buying.

I couldn't think of a better signature.

by atvman on Dec 19, 2011 6:22 PM EST reply actions

I already have my Calvin jersey
  1. will be hung up next to #81 before it’s all said and done. Either of those two are easily recognizable and unflameable, but I’m partial to Stafford.

He is an amazing player and has a humble attitude.

That is a jersey you will be proud to wear forever. Just like my Barry Jersey.

Oh, wait…Lions…uh…

I have an Eric Wright t-shirt, but no jersey. If I had to buy one…I’d want to be unique, I’d probably go Titus Young or Louis Delmas

Stafford

We’ve had good receivers in the past. We’ve had great linemen, too. The thing that will distinguish this team from teams of the past fifty years is the quarterback. I currently don’t have a Stafford jersey, but I will before next year (and if the Lions play the Niners in the playoffs, I might have to buy it before then)

by simscity on Dec 19, 2011 10:58 PM EST reply actions

I also consider what you look like in it.

If your short little guy, and you are wearing Suh or Calvin it looks like you have Napoleon complex. If you are a big dude, wearing a Titus jersey would look kind of weird.

<~~~ Already chose Calvin

I can’t see a downside with Megatron. Already one of the best to ever play the position. And he has humility, not an arrogant SOB. All around a good kid, and I identify with that. I almost think that he’s somewhat surprised with his success and is growing into it.

I also think you can’t go wrong with Stafford. Some of the same qualities … talent, level headed, not arrogant. He already has had great success at age 23 and the sky is the limit on his potential. I am SO glad he is our leader and field general.

What sealed the deal was that CJ and I share the same Surname, so it was a no-brainer to choose a jersey with my name on the back !

Voted Calvin.

The most gifted and unique player at his position in the league.

Just devastating to other teams.

If you’d asked this at a different time, I’m sure Suh would have far more than 3% of the vote.

3’s lower than what I thought he’d get.

Tough choice. Way too many options.

I like the idea of one you don’t see much. How about LoJack? Could go with Nate. I don’t think I’ve see a Burleson jersey in Detroit, although I’ve been to 2 games since he arrived.

Hey guys

Thank you all for your comments and opinions. In the end, even though I am a big guy and I might risk looking weird or whatever, I chose to purchase the Matthew Stafford jersey for a few different reasons:

1) Stafford is awesome.
2) They did not have a large selection of which I might choose a more obscure player.
3) The Stafford jerseys, for some reason, were the ONLY ones that had a XXXL (56) available!

I will be proud to wear my Stafford jersey, but I think eventually I will get a Calvin Johnson as well. We’ll see about Suh and Fairley, and maybe an Avril someday…:o)

Can't go wrong with the field general.

And yeah, unless you go through NFL.com it is difficult to get players like Jackson, Tulloch, etc.

My 2011 Lions season prediction: 12 wins and 4 losses. I made this prediction the week after the New England preseason game. Well, so much for that prediction. 10 and 6 anyone?

Can’t go wrong with Stafford. He has the qualities you ID’d in your initial post, and he’s IMO a top-five QB in this league. Bonus is, he’s freakin’ 23 years old. You can get a LOT of years out of that jersey !!! Good investment/

What's an authentic knockoff and where can I buy one?

Anyone know? And what about those guys selling jerseys at tailgating spots? Where might I find them for Saturdays game?

An authentic knockoff is a jersey...

That looks EXACTLY like an authentic jersey that you would pay $275 for at NFL Shop. The numbers and names are embroidered on, the stitching is premium, the material is the same as an authentic jersey worn on the field by the players, and they even have the official “jock tag”. The only difference that I know of is that the authentic knockoffs are made in China, and must be imported. I don’t know of a lot of things that aren’t made in China these days, so to me that is not a problem.

I am purchasing mine from the same place that Profiler got his jersey. His is badass, so I am pretty excited. I am paying $42, which includes shipping and a $2 paypal fee. It takes about 10-15 days for the jersey to arrive, after your payment has been processed. The site that I was originally told about was called tarajersey.com, but that site has changed addresses and it’s name to toonjersey.com.

I will let you know if I got my jersey, and whether or not I am satisfied, once it arrives!

Here is what they say about their jerseys, from the site:

All Numbers, Logos and Names are sewn on and embroidered

Individual twill or dazzle letters for player’s name

Applique team name and logo at the chest or sleeves (where applicable)

NFL® Equipment patch sewn on the bottom of the front collar

Logo embroidered on each sleeve

NFL® Equipment jock tag with numeric sizing is applied to the lower left bottom

Made of 100% heavyweight mesh nylon

Great point

That said, Hanson will not be around much longer. I wanted to rep a player that will be around for years to come, was an outstanding professional, and who had Hall of Fame potential. Stafford and Johnson were 2 and 1, respectively, on my list, but as I stated they only had the triple X size in the Stafford jerseys, at the time of my purchase.
