POD Open Thread #3

The other open thread got knocked off the rec'd section, so it's time for another one. The NBA has started up again (who really cares), and the Lions have made the playoffs (WOOOOOO). F*ck Mark Sanchez may be getting the axe at NY, how fun would that be? Anyway, this is your thread to talk about whatever you want, besides religion or politics. As always, don't be a douche. Have fun with this thread, guys and gal, and keep it Fairley clean.

that truely sucks i was thinking we get him next year as an extra back we keep inactive week to week

I think either Pierre Thomas or Chris Ivory will be gone next year due to cap space and I was hoping we keep J. Bell
He is high on alot of Saints fans list as a keeper along with Adrian Arrington who is a reciever we keep in-active week to week so no one claims him

So Drew Brees tops Marino

And Brady isn’t far behind. Rodgers needs 357 against us.

And you know what the funny thing is?

The third year freshman, Matthew Stafford, is merely 482 yards short of 5,000.

Brady has played in the class of the NFL for what, 10 years? This is Brees’ 2nd 5,000+ yard season, but he’s also been in the league for 10 years, 6 with this team alone.

It’s amazing what our quarterback has done already, and I truly do forsee him becoming the next big thing (if he isn’t already). There are visions of the Brady v. Manning matchups the last 10 years in my head. Guy is barely behind the marquee quarterbacks of the last decade statistically, and I’d daresay he has as much or more heart than most of them too.

Unlike Brady vs. Manning

Rogers vs. Staffinfection will happen twice a year if not 3 times a year for about 10 more years.

I wouldn't take anyone over Stafford.

Not Cam Newton, not Drew Brees, not Tom Brady, not even Aaron Rodgers. He’s younger than Brees, Brady, and Rodgers, and so much better than Newton can be. I’m ecstatic to have him on our team, hopefully for 15+ years.

I don't know

how high Staff’s ceiling is. He can be inconsistent (always has been). If he stays that way, I think he can be as good as Brees and Newton (assuming Newton gets more consistent after a couple years). I doubt Stafford will be quite AS good as Rogers has been this year, but he certainly could match his career over time and it could be those two every ones always comparing in 3-5 years from now…

Stafford v. Rodgers - 2011

Completion :
Rodgers – 68.3
Stafford – 63.7%

Advantage: Rodgers, who has a career average of 65%, absolutely attainable by Stafford.

Yardage:
Rodgers – 4643
Stafford – 4518

Advantage: A wash. Stafford can put up as many yards as Rodgers any day of the week.

TDs:
Rodgers: 45
Stafford: 36

Advantage: Rodgers. Can you imagine what Stafford’s numbers would have looked like if he hadn’t had a broken finger on his throwing hand for 3 games? Even now, Stafford surpasses every season total of Rodgers’ TDs in his entire career, his highest total being 30 in 2009.

Without making an entire FanPost, I really don’t think Stafford is as far off Rodgers as you might guess. The kid is in effectively his 2nd year, putting up top 5 QB numbers. His consistency is increasing by the game, and he has nowhere to go but up. How can you ask how high his ceiling is, if he’s gotten better every year by leaps and bounds?

2nd game we tried to hurt Favre we cheated we had a bounty on Favre’s ankle(that was messed up from the prior year when we tried to end his career) then the refs cheated then if we were in their dome they would kick our a**
3rd game ( in their dome) we tried to hurt AP we cheated we cheated the refs helped us we ran up the score were un-sportsman like (really? unsportsman by running up the score in the nfl?)
They drive me frickin crazy

I would rather have a coach with a killer instinct then one thats timid

Our coach and players go for the whole 60 mins
Thats alot better then taking a big lead and holding on to try and run the clock out
Have you seen how many points get scored in garbage time
Then if you put on the brakes too early you have to try to get the momentem going again
Its much better to just keep going

Agreed, I'd much rather win by a ridiculous score and be accused of running it up

than do what we did against the Bucs in the first game and almost lose at the last minute.

Not to get into the ugliness all over again. Have you all seen how many coaches have turned down Penn state. Mike Munchak ( why would he take the job?) Also turned them down this week. Seems like every week a new coach has told them no. There next target is on the GB Packers coaching staff….Bet he says no

Since this is an open thread,

I wonder if I could get a little outside perspective from y’all. I’m playing my 16 team league championship this weekend and have to choose between playing ARod for a quarter or two, or Grossman @ Philly.
Also, I have considered picking up Joique Bell. KWill is also available. How do you see us splitting up our carries this weekend?

Did you guys see the size of that chicken?

by studmo on Dec 28, 2011 11:51 PM EST reply actions

I'd go with Grossman

Rodgers may not even play, you can’t take that risk.

Bell probably won’t get more than 5 carries IMO, and KWill never has done anything to deserve a spot on your team.

I was planning on rooting for the Lions for some playoff wins….now I can’t . It’s time some new teams start making it in the playoffs and retiring some of the “elite” teams from the past decade.

It really comes down to defense

and I think this last game was an aberration. Completely on the coaches for having a miserable game plan. I fully expect a much more complete game plan this week because we have more players.

Plus, I think C Will is possibly the most underrated player on our D line.

just unbelievable i read a comment some where that losing to flynn we dont even to deserve to be in the playoffs. really? thats like saying if…..
GB losing to Chiefs
Atlanta losing to TB
NYG losing to Redskins 2x
NO losing to Rams
NE losing to Bills
Cincy losing to Denver
Texans losing to Colts
Baltimore losing to Jags

9ers only questionable loss is Cardinals and Steelers most questionable is a loss to Texans who loss to Colts, Panthers, Raiders and Titans

Oh and i forgot Denver they are this years seahawks, they just dont belong

Probably not

But it might not be a bad idea to play the game just to make sure. As a matter of fact, its my considered opinion that you guys would be best off just ignoring us completely and just start game planning that divisional game in two weeks.

I mean we are just the Lions….you know, same ol Lions, nothing to see here.

Well we are notorious for overlooking an opponent

The Rams game this year brought flashbacks of Saints years that I would rather forget. We have been called the “same ol Saints” plenty of times over the past couple years. Brandon Jacobs used that same verbiage pre-game when we destroyed the Giants in 2009. I never underestimate a team when I hear the words “same ol” in reference to their playing style.

I know I'm committing a football sin talking about the Draft when we're in the playoffs

but what does anybody think of Kellen Moore? If he falls to us in a late round (like the 5th or so) would any of you want to take a flier on him? I kind of see his floor as Hill, but as Green Bay just showed us, it’s not a bad thing to have a potentially really good QB as your backup.

You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.
-Johnny Cash

by TheLoneDavid on Jan 4, 2012 1:30 PM EST reply actions

No thanks.

First of all, I doubt he falls to the 5th.
Second of all, I want our “fliers” to be RB’s (I figure if we start the year with 10 RB’s we should still have 1 or 2 by the end of the season) , CB’s, and maybe a O-lineman or 2.

Anyone see this bit on T.O.??

linky

Anybody see that workout he did on NFL network? I thought he looked pretty good. Of course NOBODY else did. (That’s why I am not an NFL scout)

But I can’t help but think the reason T.O. isn’t in the NFL has more to do with his attitude. Despite his sometimes overwhelming love for his quarterback, he is a locker room cancer and I can’t help but think he might’ve had a few more years in the NFL if he wasn’t such an asshole.

I'll say this going into the season the Saints were my favorite to win it all.

NO I am in no way torn GO LIONS. But am concerened because I just feel the Saints are the best team in the playoffs but they can be beat. If you look at our last game with them despite penalties and pure idiocy on our team Matthew Staffords stat line is actually better than Drew Brees. Whom I respect more than most. Not to kiss up cause I don’t do that but Matt is my favorite QB in the NFL…Drew is second so I am excited to see them go throw for throw but our secondary last week has given me a new level of conceren going into New Orleans…A place where the away team rarely wins in the first place. All that said! I belive ou guys are gonna have that extra motivation to win and will not be over looked. This game could come down to another Matthew Stafford comeback.

No one puts baby in a corner!

I thought that the Lions hung in there in the first meeting

Just can not let the Saints jump out to such a big lead. And the timing of those Burelson OPI’s were just fucking awful, with the first one of three coming in the 3rd quarter when the Lions were trailing 17-24. What a fucking joke. Fairley was owning that O-line in the first half. Now we have Suh back, I really think the Lions have a legit shot in this game. A healthy K Smith, Delmas, and Fairley could be the difference.

I agree they have a shot

But without putting my heart into it Saints have all the advantages. Home, Experince, More Weapons better O line. The Lions can win and I sure has hell hope they do. I gotta say my head tells me Saints will win. My Heart says the Lions will. My gut says be prepared for a heart attack and an aneruisim.

1 quick BITCH session then I'm outta here

How the F did Stafford get screwed over on the PB? Eli this and Eli that, the chump got in on his brothers fame! NFL Network talked about how Eli had no run game and he still took the Giants to the playoffs. Fuck off Mike Irvin, Staff had NO RUNNING GAME ALL YEAR and still took a team that had a decade of dis-pare to the Play-offs! Gee I never once saw Eli not having Bradshaw or the other chump in the backfield. Now Staff had Best go down early, another RB get put on the PUP list, K-Smooth come of the street and play hurt and MM do his best #3 RB fill in again this year. And that’s not even talking about Leshoure going down during pre-season! Fuck off everyone who didn’t vote in Stafford to the PB. Hell I could even have lived with S(Cam) Newton over Staff but not Eli .
