I feel Vindicated

Three this were reassured to me this week. One as always Mojo is a BEAST even if the Jags are a sub par team. He now leads the NFL in rushing. Two of course is that the referees as always have a difficult job but it would be much easier if they did it correctly. Finally one of my proudest moments.....

Star-divide

I was on the bandwagon 2 years before the Lions drafted him. I yelled to people he's a future franchise QB and possibly the best QB that we will see in the next 4 years. Thats right Matthew Stafford I am done with the I.P suggestion. My boy Stafford is tough in the Browns game his rookie year didn't prove playing with a broken thumb didn't prove it. Or a banged up hip didn't prove well...Screw you he's tough southern texas boy tough. Talent is no question Matthew Stafford can throw with the best of them when healthy. Admist a horrbile game for the Lions Stafford went throw for throw with whom I consider the best QB playing today Drew Brees. I said prior to the game I don't need a win I just need Matt to show he can keep pace. He damn sure did that the rest of the team let him down. Stafford is a leader like all true QBs he said what was right in front of the camera but along with Dom and other Matts story has been buried but he stood up infront of his Detroit Lions team and called them out.

Accuse of a man crush if you will but Stafford is everything I knew he would be. No one can predict his 1st two seasons. If you ask me Bradford, Freeman, Sanchez,Cam,Gabbert,Ponder,LUCK. None of these guys will be better than Stafford. I think Luck can be as good but when it is said and done. We all sit back and say he has peaked Stafford at that time will be a top 5 NFL QB. Manning,Brady both retired the top 5 QBs will contain the names of Rodgers, Brees, Stafford everytime. Think I'm full of it ? Look at his stats this season. He had bad games sure while his throwing hand was injured. Not even back to %100 he put on a show vs New Orleans and nobody seen it because the rest of the roster excpet Fairley and few others failed him. He will continue to grow which is the scary part. Giant arm, A leader, Accuracy, Tough and intelligent everything Stafford needed to be he is. While I have always said I no matter what happens I will always be a Stafford fan. I feel villified before the year is even over. Deep down in my heart I can say he is the guy. I belive in him and I was right. Not everyone will be there yet but as the season winds down I can now say it. I cannont picture anything that Matthew could do that would change my mind. He's different and not cause he has long hair or his name is Matthew. He is different the same way Peyton Manning is different. He will be irreplaceable and hands down the best QB this franchise has ever seen. We will no longer compare QBs the Bobby Layne because we not only won't need a QB for years to come but because Matthew Stafford is already on pace to shatter all of his records.

Am I jumping ahead of myself. In my mind no I am not on as convinced as I was before but this season has erased all of my doubt about drafting Stafford 1st overall. I hope by seasons end everyone else can enjoy the same feeling. Knowing your lost football team has finally found THE guy. While Calvin and Suh may always be the medias target thats fine. Thats not Staffords thing anyways, He will always be there 5 days a week and more. Putting in the hours, the work and the focus to be the very best at what he does. Quiting the doubters one hit, one touchdown, one win at a time.

One of those V words is probably right, but vilified is not the right one. Unless he is trying to say that he feels that people have unjustly criticized him for his support of Stafford through all the down times.

I'm totally with you in the spirit of this article

There are so many things to appreciate about Stafford it makes the job of those haters much harder. There’s no doubt he still has some maturing to do, but that’s what makes this even more exciting! If he’s this good now wtf just imagine how he’ll be later!

If you are disappointed it is only because you have chosen to set your expectations at a level that was never reasonable in the first place.

Stafford looks like he has the stuff to lead this team.

He is still learning and like any QB not named Rodgers or Brees, has had his poor games this season. But I feel very confident that the Lions QB will no longer be a weight that the rest of the team has to drag with them to be successful.

I am looking for a strong finish from Matthew to lead this team to the next level.

My 2011 Lions season prediction: 12 wins and 4 losses. I made this prediction the week after the New England preseason game. Well, so much for that prediction. 10 and 6 anyone?

I'll be eager to see what he does with a full compliment (namely a LeShoure, Best/Best's replacement) and an even badder defense to hold other teams' heads in the toilet.

..shit who knows, maybe Mayhew & Schwartz draft O-Line or trades in the off-season.

If the team is further built up around Stafford, I expect a better #9 come game time.

We’re sitting way, way better than we have in decades, in part due to Matt Stafford.

Remember Stafford is still really young (23) and inexperienced (in number of games)

All the great QBs have had less than perfect starts and grown into the position as they learn to read defenses, develop pocket awareness, etc. Matt is certainly on his way, but still a work in progress, as should be expected.

Good News is

He is still 5th in the NFL in passing yards and is in very good company on that list.He has three more ints than Drew Brees and 4 more than brady and only trails brady, rodgers, and brees in total Td’s. That is a great accomplishment in its own.

by Michael21 on Dec 8, 2011 11:40 AM EST reply actions

whats his age again? Oh yah, 23. The rest of them there guys are a wee bit older and have had better support from day 1

Stafford joined a 0-16 team and look where he’s at already at 23!

Thats the best part about him I feel

Hes so young that hes only get better and become more of a leader. His presence is contagious amongst most of his teamates and they respond well when hes giving them that energy.Stafford at 26,27= primetime

by Michael21 on Dec 8, 2011 1:59 PM EST up reply actions

i do have a few concerns with Stafford

1 his responds to pressure.. he like MOST quarterbacks gets rattled with pressure. This needs time to play out really to see if this improves.

2 rarely escapes pressure to make positive plays.

These 2 things bother me because i don’t think you can really get better in that area.. and to be special you really have to be great in that department…but overall he is a outstanding thrower of the football. and the best qb the Lions have had in 55 years

The thing i would like to see from him is playing big during the biggest moments on the game… mental toughness. Seen it vs weaker teams (cleveland /carolina).. he is young so that still has a chance to play out as well.

He is really a great passer but needs a good pocket.. he cant carry a team that has him running for his life… he is very week after the play breaks down… all things that concern me… but hey just cause i am fan doesn’t mean i close my eyes and pretend i don’t see these things

Thinking back, there are times I’ve seen him respond quite well to pressure. There are also times I have not seen him respond well. I’ve noticed that you can predict when he’ll respond well. He’ll bounce out to the huddle and have this shit eating grin on his face like he’s enjoying himself. When I see that on TV, I know he’s about to play lights out. Other times, I see him straight faced and lacking that energy, I get nervous what’s about to happen.
I’m not sure what’s going on with him in these two different moods, but I just know when he’s having fun, that kid is dynamite. I want more of that.

I noticed that too

I saw that shit eating grin on his face in the Saints game oddly enough.I could tell he was having a riot out there.

by Michael21 on Dec 8, 2011 1:57 PM EST up reply actions

You know... I thought the same thing... in the beginning of the year...

but his games this year, he’s looked pretty good. Hell, take a look at the Saints game… extra deep drop to sucker the DE’s deep and then step up in the pocket to complete a nice gainer…

He’s coming on, and coming on fast…. if the Saints game was a preview of what’s to come in the next 4 games… oh boy!

That is the biggest thing I took from the game

Stafford was pretty good from the get go and really began torching NO by the 2nd qtr. By the 3rd qtr it was clear that Stafford was having a better game than Brees, and Brees was having a damn fine game himself (even for him). It was at that point that I was like, damn – that’s something to be proud and hopeful about.

That is THE biggest reason for optimism moving ahead. Yeah, the potential of the defense is truly exciting, but it’s Stafford alone that can really take us where we want to go and win that trophy.

Stafford is currently 4th in TDs (27), 5th in yards (3,527), 9th in passer rating (91.3), and 8th (63%) in completion percentage (and that includes a couple terrible games he probably won’t repeat anytime soon).

Clearly he’s a top 10 QB right now, in effectively his 2nd full season; but he’s shown all the signs (and stats at certain points of the season) of being a top 5 QB. Think if he would have been less jittery in some of the games early on…that alone would probably put most of his numbers around the 5th spot…

I know stats aren’t everything, But Stafford shows leadership in the way he commands respect and goes about his business. So it’s not like he’s a Cutler or something, who can have a good game but doesn’t inspire his team… \

He’s 23 years old and while I think he’ll continue to be somewhat hot & cold or inconsistent; I doubt he’ll be as inconsistent as he has been this year. Having the rest of this season, possibly playoffs, and then another offseason in the same system and with the same guys will most likely help him be more comfortable and clearly be a top 5 QB as early as next year. That’s what I honestly believe (and I haven’t been a huge Stafford fan – I liked him but thought of him more along the lines of Jay Cutler than John Elway…I’ve come around)

The boys are back in town!

One thing about Stafford...

I think he might be the single best reason CJ will (hopefully) stick around.

Hopefully we make the playoffs, and #81 signs a 15 year contract.

We are so lucky

to have Staff, CJ, Suh, etc. Soooo good and so young. No matter what happens this season we have a really bright future. Staff is going to challenge career records of all the greats.

Put me down...Lions win at least 11 games next season! 1/6/11

Stafford is on the verge of becoming elite.

He is just a tick behind the guys like Rogers, Brady, and Brees. All he needs to do in order to reach that level is even out his game some. We have to remember that the worst effort by Stafford this season have been while he was wearing the glove against the Bears. If you take away those six picks, he has no more INTs than the best in the business. I would like to see him learn to come out strong out of the gate. He has had several games this season where he has struggled to get going. If he can solve that, he is in that elite class in my mind.
