Antonio Cromartie?

According to PFT Jets are thinking of letting Antonio Cromartie hit free agency http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/02/16/report-jets-plan-to-let-antonio-cromartie-walk/

Star-divide

What would you guys think of signing Cromartie? He has a tendency to shoot his mouth off but at the same time who really likes Tom Brady? Plus I don't think there's anything wrong with his attitude a stern talking to by Kyle Vanden Bosch won't fix. I think signing Cromartie would be huge, and that way we would be free to pursue a LB or OL in the draft without having to reach for a CB.

If I recall correctly...

didn’t the Lions consider pursuing him last off-season but decided against it because of his attitude/tackling?

One of Mayhews first projects was trying to trade for Antonio out of SD

Not sure if it was the price or if they decided they didn’t want him but it never got far.

P.S everyone should vot punch rex ryan in the face…This one is for PHONZ!

No one knows why

except for Mayhew and the chosen few sworn to secrecy…but the fact that they targeted him right out of the gate would suggest there is legitimate interest if the price is right…

It would just be money, not picks

But we don’t have a lot of cap space, how much was chris houston paid this year? Anyone know how much Cromartie would command on the open market?

by craggt on Feb 17, 2011 12:23 AM EST reply actions

cap is a non issue at this point

until a new CBA is done. plus we were at like 95mil last season WELL under the cap we got lots of room.. if memory is correct the cap was around 125mil give or take…ya know pocket change.. (that I would love to get my hands on) :)

467k

is what he made last year. This was the finale for his rookie contract. I don’t expect him to get more than 4m a year and I think that’s generous.

by Ee Oulo on Feb 17, 2011 3:28 AM EST up reply actions

that 467 is Houstons '10 wage

I bet Cro will end up in the 8m a year area, but I’m guessing ofc.

We do need help

So he may be useful. I don’t see him as a long term solution though.

RIP Robyn Bailey 1961 - 2010. I love you mum.

I am not in favour of the Lions pursuing a Corner in FA.

Outside of Houston and Vasher. Drafting a corner somewhere in the first three rounds is my preferred way to build some depth.

I would much rather see Mayhew get a veteran Safety to shore up that position. Right now we only have Delmas, Spievey, Wendling, and Phillips.

I agree

How many years have we suffered through bad secondaries??? A lot (by my exact count) and last year it was average. I’d rather we keep the pieces we have, develop Phoze and Berry and get a good kid in the draft so that we are at the very least, an average secondary for the next 3-5 years or so. Why gamble, or spend a ton of money on a FA that probably won’t be here in 2013?

I think he would be great

But I also think that he wont play here. I see him as wanting to be in the spotlight more. He is going to either go to a playoff team (Jets, Giants, Eagles, Ravens are some I can think of) or to a team that massively overpays for him (ala the Raiders, but I think the raiders are close to tapped out with that Seymour contract).

Either way, Cro is the poor mans Asamoungh (?) and will have to sit on the FA shelf until he is signed. I see the top 3 FA CBs as Asamoungh, Cromartie, Champ Bailey. I think they will be signed in that order.

Champ Bailey coming to Detroit is not looking so good:

check this link.

Vice president of football operations John Elway confirmed the renewed negotiations in a series of Tweets and in a statement released on the team’s website on Thursday. He said in part that keeping Bailey is one of the team’s priorities.

I’d love to have him (as far as I’m concerned, the more Georgia Bulldogs the better) but it doesn’t look like its gonna happen. Looks like he might sign BEFORE the other two.

by UndaDawg on Feb 17, 2011 4:59 PM EST up reply actions

i dont think we will get any of them

Too expensive, too flaky, and too old in that order.

Quick, Robin! To the draft!

by ATL Lion on Feb 17, 2011 7:17 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Voted No

But Punching Rex in the face should of been the pick, i have to say No right now give me Houston back. I would Detroit to go after Eric Wright or Richard Marshall.

SIGN HOUSTON

this is absolutely essential. he played very well last year. then let’s draft 2-3 defensive backs.

eh... no.

I think introducing a guy who talks all kinds of shit yet who hasn’t really accomplished shit and who has character issues to a young up and coming team like ours is just plain ol’ crazy/stupid. “Cromartie to Detroit?” is gonna hold the number two spot on my worst ideas of the month list right behind “Drafting Mark fucking Ingram in the first round”.

Seriously, adding an “asshole” (get it?) like Cromartie to our young team sounds like all kinds of bad news.
