Mock Draft w/ FA...

Well its getting closer, soon the draft will be here and everyone will be holding there breathe as Detroit goes on the clock at 13. The best part about this year's draft is there is no clear cut favorite. I think the combine will make it even more intresting, seeing that player we really want rise or fall on the board. Then waiting to see if Detroit invites your guy to Allen Park for a private workout before the draft, god the suspense and drama is killing me. Here's my new mock now that we only have 5 picks in this years draft, i will also be looking at some free agents i would like to see in Motown.

forces on fixing the 4th best pass blocking OL witch will likley make it worse..

And close to last in the run department.

I think drafting a replacement for Backus at 13 is ideal, I don’t know if Yarno’s feel’s like Fox, Hilliard or Ugoh are in line for replacing Backus. I did read that Schwartz come out and said “Backus will play tackle and only tackle until the draft”. Doesn’t mean that OT will be the 13th pick in Detroit this year.

Unlike Fox, Hilliard and Ugoh i know exactly how Schwartz and Gun feel about Palmer and Carpenter. Right now its a wait and see game, Detroit could go so many different ways from Jones, Ingram, Jordan, Ayer’s, Miller, Prince, Smith, Harris, Castanzo, Solder and etc.

Gos Fox, Hilliard Ugoh all have exprense start LT at school.. sims was procjtcted to get looks at LT comeing out the draft…

so drafting a OT the dosent fit the PBS and will be another project is dumb..

also OG is who the blame goes on for run blocking not so much OT..

by det32 on Feb 21, 2011 3:26 PM EST up reply actions

not sure what you mean

because he also said Lawson (the best FA OLB out there) would be coming in. Matthews, Palmer, and Carpenter would then fight it out for that last LB spot. I’d be happy with that…

by rames on Feb 21, 2011 6:08 PM EST up reply actions

Matthews, Palmer, and Carpenter would then fight it out for that last LB spot. I’d be happy with that

your standers are very low then.. i dont want any of them to eaven be compiting for the starting role.. i want to do beter then 29th vs TEs and 24th vs run.. i guess you dont care though as long as we can replce our curent LT so stafford can get hit more

by det32 on Feb 21, 2011 6:15 PM EST up reply actions

I think your going over board...

if Schwartz didn’t think Carpenter and Palmer could contribute on D he would of never came out and said i want them back and the same goes for Gun.

Levy back healthy, Carpenter and Palmer more comfortable with the D, add Lawson and Matthews there’s a nice LB corp, Is it the best know but will get better as they learn, relax and react instead of thinking and forcing.

Castanzo or Solder wouldn’t come right in and replace Backus unless they beat him out for the job in camp. To me LT is just as important as QB and i would be happy bring either one of them in and learning behind Backus until they are ready.

i think it was frrep that said the FO dosent want carpnter to be starting next year.. on the team yeas but not starting

I really want to jump on that levy comment

cause you are make a broad accusation..“he sucks” when you know %99 of POD disagrees with you so how does he suck?..I want stats and facts that back up your statement not just your personal opinion. I find it hard to take a guy who has ernie sims as his picture and loves Akeem Ayers to an unhealthy level (seriously get help) to seriously when he says..

levy sucks man

+1 Profiler.....This is the most ignorant comment I have heard all year I think !

Their is nothing that backs this up and your 1 video clip does not mean he sucks….Not to mention he was never even 100% healthy. Not all mistakes on video are the players even if it looks like it is. When you have a rotation of OLB’s playing around Levy, sometimes the OLB’s make mistakes and it is just Levy working his butt off for the team. Take that into thought. If you had NO, OLB’s playing next to you, you would look bad from time to time I am sure.

Levy what...

So you think that Ayers is going to do a better job than Levy? det32 Levy could start on any team in the league rather its MLB, OLB (4-3, 3-4) or ILB in a 3-4, the kid was a steal in the 3rd round.

I guess your right det32 Levy is over rated...

since the Eagles are a team he could start for maybe we should see if they will trade Ernie Sims back to us for Levy and are 3rd for there 5th.

Levy will be better than Ayers and is already better than Sims and this coming from a second year player learning how to play MLB in the NFL.

Levy was drafted as an OLB in the 3rd round and is easily ranked 3rd or 4th from his class. Took ahead of him was 3 first round picks, 3 second round picks and 1 in the 3rd.

Levy missed 5 games and played in 11 with a busted wheel (groin) and still finished with 72 tackles why’ll learning a new position.

But you right he is over rated and sucks.

I love this Mock

mostly cause you have us grabbing a OT in the first but I like your FA pick-ups other than grabbing more DT’s. Out of curiousity why are we signing more DT’s when we already have Williams/Suh/SLH where in the rotation would either of the DT’s fit in???? And disreguard what Det 32 said. . . .If you don’t have us drafting a LB in every round not named ayers he’s against it……

I think Palmer and Carpenter will suprise you this year det32.

replacing the guys that know the scheme and have a year in it for rookies won’t make us any better. What’s your knock on Palmer? He was a UDFA in his 2nd year on his second team, come to Detroit learned an entirely different scheme and took the job from JP before the season ended.

Carpenter was on his fourth team, 3 in one year also had to learn another scheme got a chance and did a hell of a job.

You're right.

Warren Sapp only had a small handful of sacks during his first starting year, he’s garbage. No players can ever grow, and stats are the only way to validate a player’s worth.

Ridiculous.

am against taking a OL in the 1st when we had the 4th best OL

i am against taking a CB before LB when we where as high as 9th best pass D this year..

the fact of the matter is we don’t NEED a CB.. we also don’t NEEED a OL

by det32 on Feb 21, 2011 2:59 PM EST up reply actions

motown man

I thought we were tight enough that you knew when I was messin with ya. And I do disagree with you about needing a CB. The 2 areas that we had a revolving door of players at last year was CB where we started like 100 different guys was LB where we were looking for anyone who had ever played the position to start after Follet went down.In terms of the T position that you keep saying we don’t need, Gosdner played OK Backus is hitting near the end of his road, and the run game didn’t start to click for us until Gosdner was hurt and his replacement started. Fox may or may not be a good LT only time will tell, but if we have a chance at the biggest who also happens to be the fastest LT in the draft should somehow slide to us at #13, we would be fools not to take him when we have the likes of Peppers and Allen in our division.

How many lumps you want Doc?

by davis0169 on Feb 21, 2011 3:06 PM EST up reply actions

injures was the only problem we had a revaling door this year.. cant rember what we kept the num 1 WR

but PFF list us a 2nd best agenst the num 2 WR.. that dosnt screem 1st round CB to me..

PFF also list us at the 4th best pass block OL.. once agen dosent screem 1st round OL.. gos didnt alow one sack so to say he was ok is a understament..

he is far from the biggst and we run a PBS we dont need fast OL we need big strong OL.. there is no OT in this draft that will start day one over gos or backus

we are 29th vs TE
19th vs RB
24th vs the run..
now if we where to bring all of that to eaven jsut 16th.. we would easly have a top 10 pass D… our pass rush takes the long ball out witch is why we can get away with mid core CBs

by det32 on Feb 21, 2011 3:23 PM EST up reply actions

We didn't have the 4th best OL

We had the 4th best pass protection. We were straight terrible in run blocking, we need G/C. Being against taking an offensive lineman in the first is one thing, your reasoning for it is retarded.

by det32 on Feb 21, 2011 8:01 PM EST up reply actions

I never said take depth in the first.

All I said was we didn’t have the 4th best OL, and we need G/C. Not want, need. It has nothing to do with whether we first pick any.

by Mavyrk on Feb 21, 2011 9:41 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly.

It’s not whether or not you want Ayers, it’s whether the FO realizes (correctly) that he is lazy and hesitant.

Thank you for finally coming over to our side, now can we talk about something else? :)

I like us picking up a DT this offseason.

Not a big name, just a solid and well rounded player who is a vet and comes at a solid price. To me, look at how many players we have at DE and we only have 3 at DT. GOD FORBID AND YES I AM KNOCKING ON WOOD ! What if Suh gets hurt, even for just a few games ??? Then we are suddenly very thin and have no rotation at DT. Even if those 2 players do not get hurt during the time we were waiting for Suh to come back, they will be gased by the end of the game and their output would be horrible !

I hope your Scenario comes true

I’d be happy with those picks, I personally like Ras I Dowling with that 2nd pick at CB..only because it seems he’s a little more physical and dynamic than Brown from watching each of their highlight reels Ive seen on You-Tube. I would be happy with either. And Hell yes to all those free agents…at least Stroud and Lawson or Marshall

by Mike O'Neil on Feb 21, 2011 7:29 PM EST reply actions

I really like Dowling ...very talented but their is a BIG but on him...

He is very injury prone from what I know, maybe I am not fully correct but it seems teams are very much shying away from him for this reason. We seem to have enough problems with the walking wounded….we do not need anymore IMHO.

So in a nut shell the poster "Jimmy" wants us to believe that any tackle we draft will.....

….replace backus this coming year? So what your saying is that one of these tackles would do better what Backus did right?….Makes NO sense to draft a tackle and this is why!!

- level of play by our current starters was very good

-Fox was drafted KNOWING he would not be ready till this year

-Hilliard played well when he started and even shutout Matthews from Green Bay.

-You don’t draft high round tackles to “groom”. EVERY single tackle that was drafted in the last 3 years started as a rookie….no grooming…no preping….tackles are easy to project so you pick them high they start right there right now!!! So with Backus playing well and no room on the roster there isn’t room to carry a back up tackle that won’t see any playing time

Finally you can’t convince me that any of the tackles in this draft are gonna come in a hold Julius Peppers to 1 sack in 2 games Like Backus did. You can’t even fix you mouth to say it…you can’t even type that without taking a stiff drink. THERE is NO logic to picking a tackle.

Lastly all of you that say “well we have to protect Stafford blah blah blah”. How in the world can you even fix your mouth to say that when Stafford was sacked 4 times in 2010 yet had 2 different injuries. yes one of those times was a run…but still 8 total times he was touched in 2010 and he is hurt twice!!!!!……..the logic in getting a tackle is like changing your oil when your car won’t start…..ZERO LOGIC!
