I have done two scouting reports my idea is to start discussions about players we haven't talked about in depth much. So from the Florida Gators I give possibly the best inside lineman prospect in the draft.
Pouncey age 21 lacks elite athletic abillity that usually makes a interior lineman a 1st round pick. Like his brother Maurkice he is schematically versatile and can play multiple postitons. He has even practiced as a tackle for the Gators. Mike started all 14 games his Sophmore and Junior seasons. Mostly at Right Gaurd and played Left Gaurd quite a bit this last season as well. During his two year stint as starter Pouncey graded out as one of the top offensive lineman in the SEC. Pouncey is 6'4 at 310/320 LBS. Fits very well with the NFL's new proto type of centers. Gigantic, Muscular and Athletic. Mike should transition to the NFL very easily with his intelligence and leadership abillitys. Mike Pouncey will have to bulk up some for most teams who like there interiot lineman closer to 325/330 LBS. Most Drafts have Pouncey as a first round pick some are now projecting very early second round unless he has a stellar combine.
Mike Pouncey has been clocked at 5.29 in the 40 yard dash. Pouncey does not have the athletic abillity in the passing game to play tackle in the NFL. Pouncey however is expected to be a force in the run blocking game at gaurd. Was named second team All Sec in 2008. This season he was named All Sec first team by coaches and media vote. As of this post Walterfootball.com has projected Mike Pouncey at 29 to the Chicago Bears. A pick that makes complete sense to them. Pouncey is listed as the number 1 gaurd prospect saying. Pouncey has experince as a center as a senior he moved to the middle of the offensive line to replace his twin brother.
Pouncey's most natural position is guard, and this is likely how he will be drafted if he goes in the first round. His strength, power at the point of attack and athleticism all rate on a very high level for him to be a force in the league.
The Front office of the Lions has said they need to protect Stafford better ( Walter Football chaged the mock and has the Lions taking Tyron Smith). They also need to get a beast run blocker next to Gosder. Pouncey not only fits that description but without a doubt will be there at 13. I think the Lions have to consider him but I think it is their best intrest to pass in round 1 and not reach. If Pouncey slips into the second round like some think he will I belive we have to look at moving up to get him or cross are fingers that he drops to us again. Pouncey is a beast while he is not his brother he has all the tools to be the dominant run blocker at gaurd that we badly need. Pouncey fills a big need and we could get him ,I think if we could trade down and take him that would be ideal but at 13 he is gonna be a reach. Consider him a prospect if we move in the 1st round but not at the pick we currently hold. There are some very good Gaurds in this draft Moffit and Hudson come to mind but none at the level of Pouncey. Pouncey is versatile which Schwartz loves in his players but we will not over draft for Mike Pouncey.
