Now that the combine is going it's mock time!!!

Unless Akeem Ayers goes out their and blows up the combine I just don't see us taking him, and when I say blow up I mean running in the 4.5 range and being 1st or 2nd in all LB drills.  Here's how I see things playing out

1. Lions drafting OT- Anthony Castonzo or Tyron Smith who ever is the best OT in the draft is who the Lions will probably take.   If Gos is not healthy they will start out at RT or RG.

2. DB- Davon House- One of the major areas of need for the Lions

3.LB- Greg Jones- Can play inside or willing to try SAM another position of need

4. RB- Delone Carter- Who you might ask, think of Mike Turner of the Falcons, 5-9 around 225-230lbs. Will keep Best healthy and fresh

5. C- Tim Barnes- One of the better pass blocking centers, I think we all agree with Stafford healthy we will be passing alot, let's give him all the help he needs.

Well that's it, come on in the feeding frenzy and tear me apart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with det32 on points 1 and 2.

But I don’t agree that we will not pick an OT at # 13. It is possible.

I don’t think Jones will be picked until the fourth round, I am okay with Carter as our power back only, and I don’t know about Barnes. Lots of others I would take ahead of Barnes in the fifth.

We have to talk about BPA on the board

If a OT hasn’t been taken by the 13th pick, wouldn’t that be the BPA. I know that it might not fit our needs at that spot, but he could play RT if Gos can’t go or play a guard spot till he’s ready to take over for Backus.

Det32 you have house going in the 3rd in one of your mock drafts, is it to much to be surprised with a good pro day and combine he might move up.

If no OT is taken by # 13, it does not mean that an OT would be the BPA.....

..it just means that the OTs are not very good this year or the teams picking early do not need one very much or at all.

The Lions seem to be happy with the O Line as is and are developing a long term Tackle in Fox. Hilliard is a competent back up who the Lions won four games with at RT. Peterman was hurt last year and the Lions are banking on him at Guard. There is no open spot for a rookie to play in 2011.

Personally I see much more value in a prospect who can play both Center and Guard for depth and development. ie Wisniewski at # 44 or Moffitt at # 75. That is where this line is weakest.

Costanzos' gettin frustrated here!

Costanzo intrest me because he was a freshman the year Gos was a senior. They were teammates so Gosder would go the extra mile to help him out I think. Actually Cos was talking about Gos on NFL net today he was helping him out with some combine stuff. I think they would compliment eachother very well. I like Solder as well I am starting to get on the idea of a OT now because I am starting to feel the guys we would want won’t be there.

+1 on that

I don’t see any of my guys dropping to us at 13th unfortunately. I’m pulling hard for Cameron Jordan, I personally think he’s the most pro-ready defensive lineman in the draft, bar none. But unfortunately, if I’m thinking that way undoubtedly some teams are, so I can’t really see him falling to us.

by Mavyrk on Feb 26, 2011 6:56 PM EST up reply actions

Well I don't know about Jordan

Are you thinking about impact player now or subbing in for other starters till he’s ready to be a full time DE. He’s never had more than 6 sacks in a season so I don’t think he’s a impact player more of a sub player year one.

Same could be said about drafting a OT that might end up at guard his 1st year though too.

by msivits on Feb 26, 2011 8:17 PM EST reply actions

Jordan

Probably doesn’t beat out anyone on this d-line for a starting job this year, but I could see him being a sub package player year one. Almost any other line in the league, I see him being a strong 3-technique or DE in his rookie season.
